+Betty Beaton A great band that never seemed to get the acclaim they deserved. Always seemingly underrated. Maybe it was the Dr. Hook and the eyepatch thing that gave them the appearance of not being a serious band. They actually had a lot of great tuned that got a lot of air play in the early 70's. "When you're in Love With a Beautful Woman" was one of my faves too. "Cover of the Rolling Stone" - another classic.
Kind of hard to take a band seriously when it sounds like they walked into a recording studio, turned on the tape decks and 45 minutes later they turned 'em off and said, "Done! There's your album you wanted." Bankrupt. Oh, and it was one of their best albums ever. I love it. ;)
Best cover this grandma 👵 has ever heard of this dr hook song 🎵 my older sister has been gone 11 years now she left me and when to heaven but when we were young she played the 33 record to me all of the time rest in peace tammy. 🙏 😢😢
Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Eugene Javion thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Jon and the Bon Jovi family performed "Sylvia's Mother" phenomenally. Anyone who says otherwise obviously prefers the status quo, vanilla. The fixed-minded assume the same position, eat the same food and listen to only one genre of music, never giving another artist the opportunity to shine. Thank you, Jon, and Bon Jovi, for giving the open-minded people what they want!
Beautiful ! To all us guys who have had their girlfriends mother tell us she's not in or she can't come to the phone just now ? When we damn well knew she's there ! Never thought I would say 'I like a Bon Jovi recording' ? - But now I do ! - Thanks for sharing Cheers !
My late younger brother and only uneducated Aussie country boy used to talk like that. Only it was 'me mutha said....'. As a uni educated language teacher I tried to take the poor country boy out of him, get him to speak like they do in Melbourne, city style Aussie English but it didn't last and he'd soon revert to telling his latest girl about 'me muvva etc', as well 'me old man' (father) and 'me big sista' (me). I could see the sophisticated girls cringe. 'NO girl's gonna want a bush whacker talking like that' I told him 'Well, if they can't love me for myself, I don't need to know them and me muvva agrees' he replied.
never was a big Bon Jovi fan and thought twice about checking out this version figuring they'd be sure to louse up this awesome Dr. Hook song. Much to my surprise, I'm actually very impressed!
Still wasn't as high as Dennis or Ray was when they sang this song. You forgot to mention Ray Sawyer's backup vocals on the third verse. lol. In my opinion what made Dennis so special was his higher than average falsetto voice with the raspy voice, he nailed the song when he was obviously so high, especially the video of him on Shel's houseboat. But yeah Dennis is the man and still sings it as good today.
Wow! That's a great cover of Sylvia's Mother, Jon. I thought axrock star singing such a song would sound even more tortuous than its agonising but clever lyrics. That song would have to be one of most agonising 'hopeless love' songs ever written for a male singer. It's a musical masterpiece exploring such male romantic, emotional despair. I think if I were Sylvia, the daughter he loves so desperately, I'd ferl an overwhelming need to do some not very kind daughterly deeds to get 'Sylvia's mother' out ofcthe picture and stop interfering with my love life. Such a pushy, domineering witch of a mother from hell... oppressive. ...
Excellent cover version! It's amazing how he manages to sound like the original artist but give it his own twist. And he sings with so much emotion. Check out Bridge Over Troubled Water and Mrs Robinson. It shows they have genuinely good voices and that they're versatile
This show was one of two nights at The Borgata Casino, filmed by Tony Bongiovi (Jon Bon Jovi's brother) and streamed live over the internet, and the only shows- they did not tour, this was it- to promote the album This Left Feels Right. The album was a reworking of Bon Jovi classics. The band played with the songs styles- turning pumping, power-driven rock hits into swinging jazz ballads and such. Jon Bon Jovi was studying acting at the time, which I believed influenced the stretch, and you can see the actors training was paying off because his emotion and connection to the lyrics make this a first rate Oscar-worthy performance.
Man that was a stretch for them but so much appreciatted, they only had half the players of Hook but they definitely did'nt mess it up by any means... Bon Jovis got heart and moxy... well done.
@zombiewoofN. Not quite true. Look at wikipedia and you will learn the story about this song. Shel Silverstein wrote it and he was absolutly sincere with his lyrics in this song. He had a girlfriend named Sylvia and was trying to call her up on her weddingday. Sorry for my english.
so glad to hear someone else appreciates Dr. Hook!
love Dr Hook!
Love them!!!!
Sylvia's mother says, 'Sylvia's busy

Sylvia's mother says, 'Sylvia's packin'
She's gonna be leavin' today'

A fella down Galveston way'
Sylvia's mother says, 'Please don't say nothin'
To make her start cryin' and stay'

Dr. hook deserves to be honored

Bon Jovi does a great job with this song! Love it!!!!!!!!
He poured his heart and soul into this production; not merely sing but wailed.
They did a fantastic job with this song!!!! They nailed it!!!!!!
Are you kidding this is ONE of the best covers...Great Job!
Wow! Bon Jovi, legends of the 80's 90's showing respect to Dr Hook & the Medicine Show of the 70's.. Quite a respectful rendition.
Dr Hook cured alot of our sadness with his music in the 70’s
THANK YOU FOR GIVING "SYLVIA'S MOTHER " (DR. HOOK'S) SONG LIFE AGAIN...............GREAT RENDITION !
Not quite Ray Sawyer or Dennis Locorriere but he does the tune real justice, hits every note and nail the passion
Best cover this grandma 👵 has ever heard of this dr hook song 🎵 my older sister has been gone 11 years now she left me and when to heaven but when we were young she played the 33 record to me all of the time rest in peace tammy. 🙏 😢😢
It's cool Bon Jovi is giving respect to Dr. Hook. Good job guys.

Dotty (Dorothy) used to sing this to me, before her death (rest in peace). And it still makes me cry. Beautifully done Jon Bon Jovi. Awesome

Bon jovis one of best performance
Very very nice.
"As the operator says forty cents more, for the next three minutes..." too good
Love this song!! The 70s had the best music.
Love it when the Jersey in him says Sylvi's 'mutha.' That is so cute.
Bon Jovi can sing anything in my eyes. Great 👌 job.🇨🇦
Let's hear him sing run to the hills...
Of course he isn't Dr Hook but I think Bon Jovi did a real good job of keeping the original sound and emotion of the original!! I love it,
Indeed!
I just recently rediscovered Dr. Hook and this version is awesome!
A really cool cover
Always loved it for obvious reasons but Bon Jovi takes it to a new level!
He does this with the same emotion and feeling as the original… so many covers just don’t put that feel into it. Great cover!
Jon,it sounded so awesome with your own twist!! Always thought that you were one of THE BEST!!❤
Good job Jon... honoring another New Jersey born rock star.
Excellent 5*****!!!!

never was a big Bon Jovi fan and thought twice about checking out this version figuring they'd be sure to louse up this awesome Dr. Hook song. Much to my surprise, I'm actually very impressed!
Me too.
Wow excellent cover version! Amazing work very talented bon Jovi
Sweet nod to New Jersey native Dennis Locorriere, the Dr. Hook member who sang lead on the original. Nice to see Jersey love. 💕
Still wasn't as high as Dennis or Ray was when they sang this song. You forgot to mention Ray Sawyer's backup vocals on the third verse. lol.
