Yes and I agree with you! It makes cry every time I hear this song because I haven't found real love coming from that one woman who cares so much about me!
Truly one of the most hauntingly beautiful love songs ever written, and I'm certain that the Flamingo's performance will remain THE version listeners remember forever more ....
My wife and I have been hypnotized by this song since it hit the radio in 1959. It has always sounded like something you heard in a dream you had. The song goes back before the Flamingoes had it. But their guitar player heard a new way to do it in his dream the night before the session. That's where that shoo-bop shoo-bop came from. He thought it would be cool to show people what his dream sounded like. He was right and the song became a monster hit. Showing folks a groovy thing and turning them on to it. It's the same thing groovy people do no matter what year it is. Come to think of it you guys are showing everybody groovy stuff and turning us on too. It is just the same now as it was then!
Is this not one of the greatest, most beautiful, romantic, insightful songs you've ever heard? It's at the very top of my list of perfect recordings -- just incredible... Other commentators confirm that I'm neither alone nor out of my mind when I laud this song as one of the greatest ever! Everything about it is pure gold!
It seems like a whole new world is opening up for you two. Discovering all the great talent and class of the old Doo-wop groups and music from the past. This kind of music carried over into the 60's & 70's especially with some of the groups from Philadelphia- The Stylistics, The Intruders, The Originals, The Delfonics, and others.
I remember being 13 years old, late hot summer night at a fair with amusement park rides, the lights, the smell of the cotton candy and this song being played over the loudspeakers. It was all like some crazy slow motion dream. It struck me as so beautiful and will stay with me forever. This is the ultimate song.
This song was from my parents generation, so when I danced with my wife to it at our wedding, people’s jaws dropped at the first notes. It’s a magical tune.
Made me want to be 16 again. At the drive-in falling in love with my high school Sweet Sweet boyfriend. No one else in the world Just the 2 of us. I'm 73 yrs old ..Thank you guys
That's when the brothers and sisters honed their vocal skills on the street corners , school yards and bathrooms and hallways for acoustics)and especially in church, that created the music that touches people around the world today.
Still gives me chills all these years later. My wife and I chose this as our wedding song. To think that young people used to stand on the street corner and harmonize like this....just incredible. Sure wish that happened today
73 years old This 50's musictakes me back to a simpler time and place. Still remember slow dancing with Gail to this song Haven't seen her for over 50 years but when i hear this song I'm right back there.
The Flamingos was and is one of the Best Doo wop Groups or Harmonies of all time Lovers never say good buy is one of my all time favorite and Dream of life time great
This, folks, is pure music at its finest. There isn’t a rapper in existence that could even be in the same universe talent-wise as these incredibly gifted musicians.
I love when young people can realize parents and grandparents were listening to this music...YES...they were hip to good shit...thanks to you for understanding old songs are awesome and that this is where we get our songs from today ❤
The Flamingos were one of the early 50's doo-wop groups. They were known for their great harmonies & choreography moves. They influenced other acts such as The Temptations later on. "I Only Have Eyes For You" is their biggest hit but they had quite a few good songs "If I Can't Have You", "That's My Desire", "Golden Teardrops", "I'll Be Home", "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" etc.
I’m a 50-something-year-old guy who listens to mostly jazz, classical and folk music but suddenly had the urge to seek out this song, which I used to hear on the radio every once in a while as a “golden oldie” when I was younger. I listened to it and then saw this video in the feed and checked it out because I was curious. Let me just say, I really loved that the two of you were just getting into the sheer beauty of the song. The chord changes and harmonies have a magic to them. Sometime I’d like to see a video explanation of what musically makes this song so unique, but for now, just seeing you younger folks just bask in its beauty was rewarding in itself. We need more beauty in the world and more people who are not afraid to unashamedly be moved by beauty when they come across it. Bless you two.
I was a little girl when this came out but I knew on some level that this is how I wanted to be treated when I grew up. I still get chills when I hear this song.
You two are so sweet! Shawn, I loved it when you took her hand. These songs are written and sung to get a certain response and yours was genuine. There were so many beautiful love songs written and performed during the doo-wop era. And I love that you two are exposing yourselves to so much different music. This kind of music is rapidly being forgotten.
"Sh-bop, sh-bop" Sweet! That piano and that guitar with the slight reverb and the sh-bop sh-bops give this song a mystery feeling that persists to this day. Credit The Flamingos with adding those parts to the song, which was written twenty five years before they made the song theirs with their 1959 recording of it.
The word "masterpiece" falls 'way short of describing this song. it's like walking along with your love on your arm, minding your own business, and then stumbling, never minding that you have left everything and everyone you knew behind, and discovering at some point that you have fallen completely into heaven.
I absolutely believe her reaction is sincere lol, i first saw this song on tv in an Amazon commercial with an elderly couple dancing to it. So when i came to youtube to listen to it; im a grown-ass man im 28 and the song got to me too, put me in a mood lol! Its timeless
This song came out before I was born. But this right here, has got to be the most powerful beautiful song. I mean, the harmonies on this song are perfect. I truly believe that Doo Wap groups were the best. Great choice. This one gives me goosebumps.
Hey guys - if you want to stop for a few and take care of things, it's ok - we can wait... Been listening to this song for 65 years - very used to this reaction - LOL!
So glad you guys are discovering these great tunes. The Doo Wop era was the most magical in all of rock history. So many amazing groups, so many amazing songs. Gotta dive into more too, like The Platters, Maurice Williams, etc. Nothing will ever be like this era, if course the 50s hold a special place in my heart. This song is the most dreamier, most romantic of that era, and one of the most in history. I've always loved I Only Have Eyes for You. Read up a bit on how Terry arranged it. Thanks for the vid, great stuff!
I loved how lovey you and your wife became during the song! It was just beautiful to see how much you love each other! This song made and makes many women melt. Yes this is dwowhop . Mel’s hair looks beautiful and fantastic!
I’ve always loved this song. Besides the voices and harmony, it has a great example of one of the hallmarks of 50s and 60s music-the BACKBEAT! You hear the slow downbeat, but also the faster beat in the background, usually made by a piano or keyboard. This song is such classic! One of so many great songs from “my era”.
I KNEW IT!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! My husband and I danced our first dance to this song in July 2002. Light some candles, have a glass of wine and dance in your living room.
The Flamingos sang a truly magnificent version of "Where or when" from 1962. Lush, deep and gentle...it always reminds me of a dance floor filled with slow dancing couples and a mirror ball filling the room with sparkles. I loved to watch you deeply enjoying this ballad...especially when he gently kissed her hand. Beautiful!
I can't believe you had the Flamingos. I was 16 when I first heard them. I am 73 now and my new boyfriend introduced me to them. They were wonderful. Still love to Hear them.
One of my favorite top 5 LOVE SONGS ❤❤❤. Gorgeous melody, smooth lyrics, the harmonizing. Perfection. Through the decades when other performers covered the song....they all nailed it, because its just a magnificent song.
Nice reaction. I was born in 1959 and this song was our wedding song. I still feel this way toward my wife after 28 years. Thanks for the reaction, I feel it all. :)
I’m 82. When I was a teenager we had dates with girls. We listened to this kind of music on WLS AM Chicago from Southeast Missouri. This music put us in a romantic mood. Girls couldn’t resist us when this stuff was on the radio and we were parked in a secluded spot.
Great reactions to this classic. I grew up with this music. They were one of my favorite groups. I'm so happy you are enjoying it, and thanks for bringing back some great memories. Next I will listen to your reactions to The Duprees. You can't go wrong with Doo-Wop. Keep smiling and stay safe.
Real music right here! Brings back so many sweet memories of my teen years at the hop. The brothers had some sweet harmonies and baby making music back then. How I wish this type of music would make a comeback.
One of my top favorite song of all times. This also reminds off the movie, " A Bronx Tale" from 1993. The part with C and Jane. He's Italian and she's African American. I remember hearing it from American Graffiti too. Yall need to add this timeless classic on your Playlist. I can see in my mind when everyone either out crusing, or out parking over looking the city, hills or ocean.
I absolutely loved this song as a child listening to the radio while I fell asleep. This song and the Duprees You Belong To Me, so lovely and romantic. 👍👍👍
I was told by my grandmother that when she saw them live when they performed this song they made them girls nearly wet themselves they were blown away by this performance
One of the most romantic songs of all time. I don’t understand why music can’t be like this today
Yes I agree, this song resonates love thru and thru. Great slow dancing song, to get close to the one you love.
Agree. I miss this kind of music.
For sure
Thanks for technology making humans with machine like feelings
It can. And does.
I've heard this song a zillion times and it still makes me melt.
Me too 🥰
Yessss ✌️
Yes and I agree with you!
It makes cry every time I hear this song because I haven't found real love coming from that one woman who cares so much about me!
Me too
Slick ………beautiful
Most romantic song ever written period.
The only thing more beautiful than hearing the song for the first time is getting to watch others fall in love with it the way I did. So beautiful
Classic 4 reasons
Truly one of the most hauntingly beautiful love songs ever written, and I'm certain that the Flamingo's performance will remain THE version listeners remember forever more ....

I looked up the original version and they definitely made this song their own.
Great selection. The Flamingos’ harmonies are otherworldly.
Yes, that's the word for their musical sounds, their singing and the background instruments!
Actually the Flamingo that arranged this song dreamed it and went to the studio at 4am to record it
The "shoo-wop shoo wop," is the heartbeat of the guy when he sings this to his girlfriend...🥰😍

Ain't nothing on the charts today that will ever compare to this song, or songs from this era.
Facts !
SO TRUE.
That of course is your opinion. However, the 60s 70s and 80s had great Love Songs as well.
Originally written in 1934, The Flamingos version went to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Simply Iconic Song.
Sorry, meant to write it went to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959. Thanks.
I love 1930s music - Several hits of the 1950s and 1960s were originally 1930s songs.
I'm surprised it didn't hit number one.
It should have been number one!
WORD!
