      Wouldnt they be less effective in excreting bicarb causing them to retain and be in alkalosis?

    And one of the most unreliable measures on the ABG. Then again, I live in Mississippi. Everyone has chronic renal and respiratory disease.

      is base excess/deficit is 0, then you effectively have a 'normal' amount of bicarb in the body
