    Handcrew guy here in region 1 with the feds. Cool video, but just adding some realism to people who are new. You will get some jokes with gloves on your belt, my crew and some others this is an SOP to not do it. Also the neck shroud really same thing. Have never seen it used once in 5 years. Other than that not too bad, and no matter what buy a butt load of good socks, Darn Tough are my personal choice.

    For the love of god bring an IFAK trauma kit for yourself and others around you. It is the only thing you might need and have zero time to go get or have it brought to you so make sure you have one. You probably won’t need it but accident do happen and it’s good for at least a couple people to have one

    If I can find a copy of it, we have a pretty comprehensive list for National Guard crews when they get activated. Somewhere I might still have the BLM-Team Rubicon gear list as well. Socks. Lots of socks, and good quality ones.......

    • @jeffpierce6965
      @jeffpierce6965 2 года назад +2

      @@desireechoate7583 It varies from state to state, but in Oregon the NG crews can get activated if the governor declares a conflagration and resources are scarce. In the three seasons I’ve been with the state so far, guard crews have been called up two out of three years. There’s a high probability that they’ll get called up this year, Central Oregon is looking at high fire probability from now through September.

    Getting ready to take my refresher course for S130/S190 then my red card do you get more money if you're a wilderness EMT out on a fire?

    • @wildlandfirefit
      @wildlandfirefit  3 года назад +1

      I had no idea so I did a quick search and from what I could tell, if you applied for a wilderness emt position, you could make more money.
      www.comparably.com/salaries/salaries-for-wilderness-emt and I found that the job outlook for emts are expected to grow 6% which is good. Are you already emt certified or are you asking because you aren't certd but are thinking about doing it?

    • @jeffpierce6965
      @jeffpierce6965 3 года назад +1

      @@wildlandfirefit I did a few years with the BLM-Team Rubicon program and mostly went out as an EMT-F. The AD pay rate was great, but now it's harder to get an AD gig. Medical contractors are really taking over the wildland medical side of things because agencies don't always have medical directors, plus navigating the licensing requirements was a pain. At one time I held five different state licenses and my national. Crew and engine contractors might give a small pay bump for being an EMT, state and fed usually don't. I'm a state employee now, and I don't get any pay benefit from being an EMT. I still keep it current because of my engine crew and coworkers.
