Thank you!
I did it from 08 to 17 i was fit
Make sure you bring something to sleep in. Sleeping in the seat of your rig all night sucks.
I’m so lost with the whole terminologies they use within the application, the only things I have under my belt is being a hard worker.. I’ve worked outside any many terrains of weather. And taking fire science online courses. I do not have a red card.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! How to properly pack the thing was my main obstacle. Now I can begin. Thank you!!!
Mine are also about a half size large which was recommended to me
I acquired a pair of White’s Boots about 7 months ago. They are difficult to break in and these boots are still painful to wear. I heard about the hot water breakin process but have been hesitant to try that being concerned that I would damage the boots somehow.
Something I learned (for myself) that helps is getting there early, if you're able, and walking a while to get your muscles warmed up. I always perform my best pace after 1.5-2 miles of walking. I've got one bad leg (broke my foot in '22, so that leg takes a bit to get ready to work).
I became a wildland firefighter through a trade school
Very sorry to hear that. Some of your info was the best I found when I started with my department.
Can you get the training before you’re 18 then get hired once ur 18?
I need more education
Yoga blocks are another cheap and excellent for getting the weight high in your pack.
Definitely works but my only feedback is that it prevents airflow through the hardhat. The majority of internal body heat dissipation is from the head so this will cause you to be hotter if that’s something you’re already prone to or concerned with. If your fitness level is good enough and heat tolerance resilient, then this is a good tip.
I am retired now. Timber Forester. On call fire fighter. Some times off forest. Other times on district. Males. 70 %. We treated the girls well. My fire nick name was Viscious.
6:45 Always remember to write "This One Not Cocaine" on the outside.
You mean you didn't know you're l you be joining a profession that's mostly men?
Thank you! You totally validate that angry feeling I get when exercise hurts or im not able to do it easily I totally thought it was just me, too.
Dang if significant others are cheating on you as a wildland firefighter, they dont deserve you
Be on top of Cardio, practice the pack test on steep hills, hydrate 24/7, do body workouts only, run constantly and have some fun when you get a roll out💯
what kind of watch is that you have on your hand?
Coool video! I am applying to get my pilots license in high-school, it will probably take me like 15+ years but it would be awesome to be a pilot for the fire and conservation service. As a woman I doubt myself A ton pursuing these careers but you give me a lot of hope!
Are there more gals like you in the field? 😻
So many good pieces of advice! The one that stuck out the most to me was learn, read, train realistically, rise above and make things better for the future. Also, in regards to be sure your family is on board, how would you guys say this applies to kids?
I bought my first pair of custom fit Whites Smokejumpers in the early 90s. Another in 2003 , and later , a pair of Nomads. Whites all the way for me !
Hi my name is Trenton and im 16 from Massachusetts and i would like to know if i could still be a wildland firefighter if i had heart surgery when i was born its all fixed now and ive been working extremely hard to make sure that im fit and healthy and i was wondering if you could give some tips on applying and wheres the best places to be a wildland firefighter
Join the contract world when you’re 18 and have a high school diploma👌🏽

@kenanmaccormack1524 thank you so much
Can u pleaseeee do video on GORGUI🙏🙏🙏
I got the hotshot tl. But i use it for military use
Is the arduous test flat terrain?
Pulaski is the GOAT always.
The chicken chunks always comes with either a first strike bar or a marble pound cake. The best MRE. Beef stew and beef strips are also good
Can confirm your value will be diminished greatly in this field. Did wildland from 2009-2016 and the things I faced and dealt with were nothing anyone should have to. SA / Harassment is the #1 issue and there are many articles around the Forest Service particularly about it. Co-ed housing doesn't help. Excessive drinking (even had an engine captain come to work intoxicated multiple times) is #2 in my book. But the fellow women I met were tough as nails most of the time and I admire anyone who can do this work. It's not the work, it's interpersonal issues and old haggard standards.
Personally, I pack as light as I can, I usually get too busy to take my pack off to use any of that stuff because I do a lot of IA, just leave it in your personal really.
It seems like a handheld motorized sweeper of sorts would be a good tool. Maybe instead of a soft bristle brush you could have hard metal paddles. Would that be just too hard to control? Maybe too hard to keep fueled?
The job is cool and all but so is working in mines of West Virginia. Also, are we really going to put our long term health on the line without any real monetary compensation & health benefits package? And youre away from your family? Really..😂😂😂 Train up convicts for this job and reduce their sentences. That would be fair. I can't think of a reason to do this work.
I'm using my GI bill to get a Forestry degree and become a park ranger. I plan to get a wildland firefighting job part time during school and full time during summer break. That way I have my foot in the door with the park system.
Hazel hoe every time
My moms name is Ronni too :) I take my pack test in the morning for Dust Busters in eugene, OR
I got a small from Amazon ill order another one hopefully the its longer
32 cc two stroke garden multi-tool with all 4 of the following interchangeable accessory attachments... 1. string trimmer (with assorted solid blades) 2. leaf blower 3. pole chainsaw, 4. garden tiller. Propane weed burner (replaces drip torch). Spare 16" chainsaw. All equipment and supplies transported in a double tire wheelbarrow and towed by Yamaha TW200. If the wind and fire change direction I can egress ten times faster.
Hi, I’m 29 do you think I’m too old to try to get into this?
No just have good stamina my instructor was like 50
What about aerial firefighting?
How do you get it mid season?
Is the audio busted? No sound
I have spent years on engines - Never have I ever heard of someone not putting tent and sleeping bag in their red bag. Those outdated red bags are small - nowadays most issue nargear or true north or similar capacity duffels to be able to carry your full kit. If it ain't in your line gear or red bag - it ain't coming to spike camp!
If the feds would pay more maybe so many people wouldn't drop out.......my cousin made more than me sweeping floors at USPS and I was a captain in Stanislaus National Forest. Loved the job but meezly pay and a crumbling station were embarrassing and nothing to be proud of. Especially in California where we're expected to pay 1800 dollars rent for a shanty.
Just tied my first White’s based off your vid, thanks 🤙🏽
Can u only walk or can u jog/run some of it?
@@michaelstephens5442 you always have to have 1 foot on the ground
@wildlandfirefit I feel like while jogging I'd have 1 foot on the ground 🤔
Towel in the bottom to raise the center of weight. Genius. Why didn’t I think of that?
