    I have had my Fiat 500e for just over a year now. I still love it! It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. There have been zero issues with the car, it’s a 2014. I just rolled over 50,000 kM with it. I can easily do my commute for 2 days on a charge but I have free solar charging at work so I top up every day. The limited range is rarely an issue for me but there are times I wish I had the ability to fast charge. I installed a cheap eBay 240 volt 20 amp charger at home, this charges my car 3 x faster than the 120 volt 15 amp charger that comes with the car. If I need to do some running around I like to start with a full charge . The car also has active thermal management for the battery, this was the main reason I chose this over a used Leaf. The active cooling and heating of the battery helps to prolong the life. The battery should easily last me 15 to 20 years before it becomes unusable for a vehicle. After that time it would still be a good energy storage option for a power wall.

      From what I have seen, an EV battery will last you a very long time if you are kind to your battery! Run it between 20% - 80% for everyday use for battery longevity. ( NEVER run it to zero, and RARELY charge it to 100%. Yep... this is a range killer.

      @John Edwards in 15 years battery technology will have improved so much I will be able to find another used EV with much better range. I have never had a car for 15 years. If I still wanted to keep the car and range was an issue I am sure there will be options to upgrade the battery. Just like any 15 year old car there will be aftermarket options.

    • @albertschofield9251
      @albertschofield9251 3 года назад

      @@W_T_D yes really. I am not expecting to roll in and have a new battery swapped in. I expect the battery pack can be rebuilt with newer cell technology. There is a place not to far from here that repairs battery packs so upgraded cells are a definite possibility.
      I will more than likely buy a bigger car with more range but I might just keep this as a car for running errands.

    Last year I bought a 500e with 20k miles to use as a 2nd car for my freelance work. I would never have it as my only vehicle due to the range, but I LOVE this little car! Such a fun car to zip around in, easy to park, and everyone loves the electric blue paint with orange mirrors and wheels. If I won the lottery that I do not play, I would still daily drive this car. Since i do a lot of short trips for freelance work, I take my 500e first and run it almost dead, then i switch to my other car. I realistically have been getting about 70-80 miles of combined range, with about 65 miles usable (since I don't let it die completly, not good for the HV battery). Not quite the range advertised, but it does have over 30k and my area is hilly which eats up the power. Out of all the cars I have owned the 500e has been my favorite, in spite of its flaws. Being a fiat, its gonna be a little quirky/glitchy, little things might not be perfect about it. For instance, the bluetooth will randomly not work at times. But for what I paid for it, I can look past that. Be easy on the accelator or you will prematurly wear your tires with its instant torque (as I have recently found out).

      Best comment on the internet today! Indeed they are a blast to zip around in. I wish it wasn't such a challenge to wake people up to these things... the most common response I get is "I'd need a second car"... to me, this is not a bad thing. Perhaps it's a car fanatic mindset of mine, but I love owning more than one vehicle... I wish I could own as many as Jay Leno (perhaps if I win that lottery that we both don't play) and a 500e would be in that collection, parked with the other Italians.
      Anyway, thanks for the informative & well written feedback. Happy zipping!

    I have owned a 500e for about 2 yrs now, I paid $7400 with 28K mi on it. I love the car, I agree with most everything in his video. Where I live in Spokane Wa. the local utility, if you own your house will install a stage II charger at your house for just the cost of installation which for me was $80.00. I plug it every day and always leave home with a 100% charge in the morning. 90% of my driving is in town I almost never drive more then 40 mi in an average day. If I need to travel out of town out side of my range I have a back-up car for that. So I have virtually on issues with range anxiety. I'm spending between .40 -.80 cents prepay for electricity when I plug in at home, there is a charge station at a grocery store near by where I can plug in for free if I want while I'm shopping. My 500e drives extremely well, quiet, quick and fun to drive. In the winter my range drops to around 80mi but still that is plenty for my average driving. When it snows I take out my back-up car. I don't run snow tires on the 500e because of that I prefer my SUV in the snow. Otherwise I thing with good snow tires it would do just fine in the snow. I love the 500e and a used one is a fantastic value. If you can find one.

    • @VLOGNOSIS
      @VLOGNOSIS  5 лет назад

      That is great to hear! You make a good case for buying off-lease, as I spent near that amount yet I don't own the car in the end. Are solar panels and option in your area? I have them where I live, and was able to charge for free most days from the sun (but we have a lot of sunny days down here). Thanks for the feedback, and enjoy!

      Hi@@VLOGNOSIS thanks for the reply. To be honest I really think the 500e is the most perfect car ever made. Aero dynamics, weight desperation, power to weight, many things, which is why a new one is no different from a 2013 when they first came out. It's a myth that range is so important, how you as an owner manage the car is far more important. A home stage II charging station is the key. In my opinion living in eastern Washington, if your car doesn't get 350-400 mi on a charge it's still a city car, that you don't have to charge as often, you may be able to go 3-6 days without charging. But with your home charging station you can plug in once, or twice a day if you want.

      I have a 2014 500e in Boise. This car actually does really well in the snow because of the equal weight distribution that the batteries provide. A weird downside to this car is the rear wheels are wider than the front wheels, so makes tire rotations awkward. However, I wear out the front tires quicker, so I’ll just replace them and keep the ones on the back.

    I just bought a 4 year old 2016 500e 2 days ago for just under $6k, and so far I love it. The 100% charge only gives me about 82 miles, but with a 20 mile commute, I think it will do, especially if I charge at work. It is very zippy, but driving aggressively and using the AC will significantly shorten your range. Also since these were only sold in CA and Oregon, getting service in South Florida or any other state besides those 2 seems like it might be a challenge. It is a great way to get your feet wet in the EV world without making too much of a commitment. I just hope the battery does not deteriorate too quickly, as the replacement cost seems ludicrously high (more than I paid for the car).

    Thanks for this video! I was wondering why these were priced so low in my area, and this explains it. Although I have to admit some of the negatives listed are positives for me. I like the 2 door option and rigid suspension. I'm currently commuting around an overcrowded city (and parking!) in a double cab truck, so thinking of picking up one of these as my daily driver. I thought about doing the lease option too, because it seemed to almost pay for itself considering I wouldn't have to be buying gas for my truck.

    • @VLOGNOSIS
      @VLOGNOSIS  5 лет назад

      Going electric is SO WORTH IT! Especially if you're currently getting less than 25 mpg. The leases are a bargain because Fiat gets carbon offset credits for each new one, but no credits for used sales, so the new lease rates are heavily discounted. Although I'm kind of a worrier, so buying used is more attractive to me (not having to worry about miles, tire wear, or dents). If you can, test drive one! I think you'll be blown away at how quick they are, and how quiet. Keep in touch & let me know what happens 😎

      I have a 500e, my wife has an eGolf. The eGolf is a more refined driving experience, while the 500e is quicker at low speeds, and more fun. The eGolf has a lot more space; the 500e has more style. The eGolf has DC fast charging (very useful at times!), the Fiat has properly functioning delayed charging (the eGolf has this, but there are any number of things which may cause it start charging immediately... This is a minor headache if you have a time of use electric rate plan. It's a great car except they must have had a moron program the charger timer). You could enjoy either!

    That was a great review video. I really didn't know the 500 came in an e model. 100 miles is a stretch on range for me. My commute is 115 miles round trip, but I just found out my work has charging station in one of the our parking lots. I drive an escape hybrid, 31 MPG. But have been thinking of a volt because of the gas backup engine.

    • @VLOGNOSIS
      @VLOGNOSIS  5 лет назад +2

      The Volt is definitely a good choice. You'd be able to drive on electricity almost all the way to work, and get most of your trip home free if the charger is available. Around here, they don't sell as cheap as the Fiat, but you get the benefit of that backup gas engine as compensation. I test drove the first generation, and they do not accelerate as fast as the Fiat did, but that is a good thing... because you're less likely to prematurely wear out the tires. I thought the seat was a little too firm, but with a cushion it would probably be okay. It's so great having no (or near zero) gasoline expenses!!!

    • @charlesbrown179
      @charlesbrown179 5 лет назад

      Bear in mind the 100 mile e-range is for city driving going 30-40 mph tops, and has nothing to do with highway speeds. The Volt does sound like a nice commuter though.

    So I've watched maybe a dozen different 500e review videos now, and nobody EVER seems to talk about the impact of heat & A/C on the range! I live in St. Louis, Mizzery.. where there's maybe 2 weeks out of the year nice enough to drive without one or the other running. And EXTREMES at that.. it can easily be over 100F on the blacktop in the summer, and in the 20's to low teens much of the winter.
    I also don't have a garage I could park in, nor can I charge at work. We could probably get an L2 charger installed on the front corner of the house at the driveway.. but then I'd be fighting the wife for the coveted 'off street' spot to get a charge.
    My only saving grace is the 20 mile RT commute.. so with maybe 100 miles per charge I could drive to work and back the whole week. In the summer months I often drive one of the old VW's at least once per week and on weekends.. so that would extend even further..
    Currently I have a '13 Abarth.. I wished back then Fiat was selling the 500e in MO, but only CA at the time :(

    • @VLOGNOSIS
      @VLOGNOSIS  5 лет назад

      That's actually an important detail, and I apologize for leaving it out. I guess most people fail to mention it because these cars originate mostly in moderate climate areas of California - where the A/C is rarely on, sapping only 10 miles when needed. And seat warmers did the trick for "winter" here, and those things barely robbed any range. I lived back East for a few years, so I know what you mean though. The weather there is even brutal on the fuel economy of a gasoline vehicle! If you had chargers available at each destination, then it wouldn't be anything to worry about. A Volt, Bolt or Tesla would take that stress away, with their higher range, but then you really pay for it with the premium prices those cars fetch. Perhaps a cheap 500e could be used most of the week, to keep the bulk of miles & wear off the Abarth? And for the days when you do take the Abarth out, it'll be that much more enjoyable listening to those exhaust pipes roar! Either way, stay in touch and let me know what happens. Thanks for watching!!!

      @@VLOGNOSIS as Brian perfectly stated, I have had the same question since these RUclips reviews about the 500e started to pop up. I live in Texas. There is simply no way you can go anywhere without having the AC turned on. The new trend is to leave the cars running with the AC on while running errands. The modern vehicles allow you to remote start and run the AC from afar, and with the key fobs, you can lock them and leave them running.
      Can you start the AC or the Heater remotely on 500e? can you leave the AC/Heater running when away from the car? how much of impact would it have on your total mileage?

    Can I expect for example the same 91 maximum miles range on a full charge for the 2017 500E under ideal conditions, when the used model I buy for $8,000 now with 25,000 miles,
    (going market price out of Southern California where there is a huge supply right now ) when the electric car's has say 100,000 miles over the next 4 years?)

    Hi, I want to buy a Fiat badly, but I have no garage. Can run a super heavy duty 30 watt extension cord out to my car? Can I use a regular outlet? To charge the car, do I need to buy anything besides the cord? Or have anything fancy installed?

    • @VLOGNOSIS
      @VLOGNOSIS  3 года назад

      There is a company that makes "ev extension cords". They go between the charger and the car. They are pricey, around $200, but perhaps ask them if they have one that works in your situation.
      Make sure your outlets can handle the amps, if in doubt consult an electrician. Some of the old interior outlets are like 10 amp max, on a good day, when they were new.
      Out of curiosity, how many feet from a good outlet to your car?

    three years, you should do a brake bleed. Brake fluid is only good for 3years, most follks never change it until the brake pads are replaced but that is bad idea cause brake fluid absorbs water over time and that makes the fluid go bad. So every 3years the brake fluid needs to be bleed.

      It probably could be done, but would not be enjoyable. You'd have to make 4 charging stops, each one 4 hours long! If you don't drive that far regularly, you can still own a Fiat 500e, but rent a Prius for long road trips, find a cheap flight, or train. That's what I did anyway. Found some $30 flights to Vegas for example. And less wear & tear gets put on my car. Hope that helps!

      If you find exactly the right deal on a used one, before you move, then you could enjoy a few years of driving one without blowing money on gas - and see how you like the experience. If you hate it (which I doubt), you can sell the car before you move. Or if you want to keep it, should only be a couple hundred dollars to have it trucked down. Or sell it anyway, move, and then buy a different one when you get here... by that time there might be better deals & more advanced technology. Electric cars are actually a lot of fun and very quiet, too. Keep in touch if you end up getting one :)

    Hey there! I just got a FIAT 500e and I'm not gonna lie am immediately having buyers remorse haha! I live in LA and commute 16 miles one was for work so thought it would be the perfect car for me. So far I've been driving it around this weekend and I'm a little concerned because for example I charged it for about 2 hours and it went from 37 miles to 90 miles. I then drove the car, windows down, just music on but no AC/Heat and I live 4.4 miles away from where I charged it. The miles range is already 78! WHAT THE HECK??? I'm not driving very fast because I'm honestly afraid it'll drain it faster. It's a used 2016 Fiat 500e w/ 15,180 miles on it. Am I totally loosing my mind? Is this what I should expect?!?!? I'll have to charge every day at this rate lol

      The "guess-o-meter" is often way off in guess-timating range. For example, when I drive up a big hill going into the valley, it deducts 30 miles from the display, but the battery percentage is still very high. Then after more driving my guess-timated range goes back up. Also, it might help to join one of the online forum sites for Fiat 500e owners (to share & compare what you're experiencing, and hopefully ease some of the stress). Hope that helps.

If you really want to be diligent, you should probably check it every 10,000 miles to make sure it isn't leaking, but really, no one will do that.
      There is also brake fluid under there too. Manufacturers recommend that gets changed every five years (in all cars, bot just ev) but no one does that anyways.
