For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

Was a donation incentive between multiple missions, winning one would be run. This was one of the shorter ones. It would been nice if he was just given 20-30 minutes to do a showcase of a few scenarios.
Whilst this game was a part of my childhood, this was a rather weak speedrun. I would have expected a full campaign run at least.

+Santiago sas apparently you do not understand the estimate time. All estimate times are gauged for worst case scenarios, a missed glitched, a forgotten task, etc. Therefore the time itself is what it may possibly be if the worse case scenario occurs. You forget about how he said at one point that if he misclicks it'd spend about 10 minutes? You're naive to the speed run community.

I might add that another reason for the high estimate in this situation is that this run was done at AGDQ. This means that they need to have a worst case scenario estimate so they can plan around this run so other speedruns aren't cut out because of time constraints. All-in-all, I was disappointed I wasn't able to reply to Santiago's original comment directly, as he seems like a pouty child who has issues with his brain-mouth filter.
If you miss, you can also say "run is dead, gg" and leave immiedietly. Offc. it wouldnt be good for audience, but it happens in some runs of some games.

No, not really. But I have been surprised to see how fast some games can be runned through or rather skipped through. When I saw a Age of Emprie 2 Speed run, I had imagined this being for the whole game, but it was just one scenario which was kinda boring, was hoping to see more.

This kind of games have to many variables, hardly a glitch could solve a battle in seconds or a campain in minutes.
That wasn't a speed run it was only one scenario.
RTS runs aren't that interesting anyway.

animewisher I don't find them very interesting anyways. When I play a strategy game, I prefer to take my time and make sure I can completely overtake the opposing side.

There are many games that they do single scenarios, they are generally referred to as segmented runs.

+Ramon Rivera of the game? Thinking about it, it was actually very different. The effects were pretty easily (?) done, the music on the other hand was pretty high quality. I got the collectors edition back in the day which included a soundtrack-disc, I'm always surprised about the quality of the original files.

AvangionQ There's a glitch in pokemon yellow where if you turn off your game at a specific time while saving, your actions will write to the system memory, allowing you to execute arbitrary code. If you stand in a certain spot, rearrange a couple of pokemon in your pokedex, and toss 68 of a certain item, you rewrite the first door to go to the hall of fame.

Great gameplay, but the game run somehow faster than usual? I've spend what feels like half my live in that game, and every movement and every animation seems to be a bit faster than usual.

Oh no it's just the game speed, you can play in fast on multiplayer actually (and people often do that)
+Stryke it's just movement speed for units. Many strategy games used to have that. Quite often it was assigned to + and - or pageup pagedown or sometimes even . and , so yeah :P Not a glitch but a game mode/option
very misleading both during the event and on here. 1. the video doesn't play through the entire campaign and 2. he is playing AoE 2: The Conquerors not AoE 2. The Conquerors added some tweaks to the units and added more civilizations

I like these speedruns but you guys really have got to cut /edit the video. There is no purpose is watching first half of the video witnessing the technical hiccups before an actual run. You could've easily cut the first 6 min and just start off with the game being shown

I'm not quite sure what the goal of this speedrun is. Is it just a speedrun of a specific scenario? Can someone brief me please?
There was a donation challenge for this game (to play a single scenario), the 20 minute time estimate was for the longest scenario (there were multiple to bid on), but it didn't win the donation war but the time was kept because things can go wrong in any speedrun and adjusting the schedule too much can throw things right out.

you can play it at Voobly..better than steam, also search for youtubers like t900, spirit of law, etc who broadcast pro games...

Why don't they use the in game timer to tell the time of the runs?
It looks like he is playing fast speed, so you just have to devide by 2 to get the real life time it took. Normal speed is 1.5 times as fast and slow speed is 1.
Pause at 12:55. The objectives clearly read, "Destroy Spanish wonder...," so yes it is listed in the objectives. It's still very entertaining nonetheless.

I get that the the estimated time is meant to be really high, but its 4x as much, come on. The video is shorter than the estimated time to complete the scenario.

The estimate includes setup time and some safety strats
And the estimate was established before it was decided which scenario would be played. The runner mentioned that it was a bid-war to decide the scenario, with the longest one estimating 20 minutes.
