Released in November 1997, Diddy Kong Racing is a Mario Kart clone with boats, planes, and a story mode. It featured a roster of a bunch of characters made up on the spot, but nevertheless Rare would pick up a couple of them and give them their own series, including one of a decidedly different nature. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

I love how butt hurt the dude with the furry hat gets XD when they yell, Get Ready! GO! you just motivate them to keep doing it XD

I remember watching this live, and it was a brilliant run, but the comment from the hat guy on the couch at 36:34 was uncalled for; nobody was "stealing" from anything. It was a cute little gimmick that was getting the whole room involved and boosting the morale and charisma of the organisers and runners of what is a long and arduous event for a better cause. Heck, even the chat was getting hype (for a while, at least) for all the "Get Ready, GO!" chants that brought a surprising amount of attitude to the run. To some extent, it even brought along more money by creating another incentive...though, that one was to get people to stop saying it. xD
Though the event was created in the name of raising money for charities, it's not always "about" the money, but experience we have and bring to others. Shame, hat guy...shame on you. ¬.¬
I love how someone donated 500 bucks to make that kid shut up hahaha...there is still hope for human kind
this is old af but seriously, that guy in the hat on the couch was so annoying. Even the runner was obviously bothered by the get ready go but you don't see him throwing a hissy fit about it. Lighten up a little.

To see all these talented gamers come together to raise money for a good cause...*sniff*...it keeps my hopes up for the future of humantiy. I'd like to see Jack Thompson's face when he finds out video games have helped raise millions of dollars for cancer research.

I completely agree...I used almost exclusivley Pipsy for the entire time I ever played DKR, and it's so sad...
He must have robo-thumbs to keep that tapping up for two hours.
While I greatly respect speed runners for their skills and their dedication to their craft (and especially these guys for doing it to support a good cause), I have a completely different philosophy on gaming and I'm glad there are some lines speed runners won't cross (that is, not turning off the excellent music even though it lags the game).

I don't think he can. You can't delete characters after you unlock them, so you can't unlock them twice.
I thought you unlock him, he becomes a frog, and you run him over after you face and beat wizpig
Prod1gyX2009 Yes. But as far as i know you cannot delete characters. Drumstick is already unlocked and cannot be unlocked again. Also if you count him wouldn't you have to unlock TT as well? That would involve doing a time trial for each stage at least twice. (once to get him to challenge you, another to beat him.)
GlitchShark what about adventure two with the platinum balloons? all the races are backwards.
digitalblasphemy1100 wait what? Such a thing exist? I never beat the game myself. I just watch others play so i went off what they said. Nobody ever mentioned a adventure two! If the main change is the races are backwards, i would say it belongs in its own category rather than being done right after this. I'm still pretty sure you can't delete characters though because speed runners HAVE told me that.

Tiptup was always my favourite Character. Even now, when I am doing my own lets play, I still use him. Yes, I am aware, that he tires Pipsy in stats, and that they have the SLOWEST top speed in the game, but I feel his superior accel and handling make up for it (Tiptup has the best of both, for any non unlockable character) I still end up nearly or actually lapping the other racers on most any track, except the trophy races, where I still win by a large margin.

He mentioned that doing the clock "makes it more fun" as opposed to using another character. So now I'm curious, how much of a difference does it make not to use the clock and who would be the best to use?
T.T. (the clock) is actually the fastest racer by a significant margin.

ThatOneGamer It exploits data from another save. You can't unlock TT without effectively beating the game first. It's a New Game + run.
+ReloadPsi No it's not. T.T is just an unlockable. He didn't do a New Game+ because there was no previous data on the file he's playing on. He started a fresh game
