Captured live during SDA's Summer Games Done Quick 2013 in which $255,160.62 in over 10000 individual donations to Doctors without Borders was raised (as of August 1st), making this the first time the $1,000,000 mark has been reached and surpassed for money raised by SDA charity marathons (in total across all marathons)!!!! A huge thanks to everyone who donated, the SDA community and all those who worked tirelessly to make the marathon another success. Here's to #AGDQ14:)
A second Mario universe was born in February 2001, one where all characters are as thin as paper. In this parallel universe, things seem the same for Mario... the princess is kidnapped as usual, but not just her - Bowser steals her entire castle up into the sky! Thankfully, since Mario is made of paper, falling miles back to the ground doesn't hurt him. Source: speeddemosarchi...

I still come back to watch this... such an unforgettable era to be a gamer. Waking up on a warm summer day after staying up all night watching GDQ, this was an incredible moment to live through. What a legendary run by Pie.
I turn this on every once in a while when I can't sleep and just listen to it in the background
lol bro same. somethin ab the room & the old nostalgic n64 game. love this video
Me too. Iv had this vid in my favorite list for 7 yrs n when I'm depressed or need something to listen to while I clean I always come back here. Glad I'm not alone.
REAL
… me too 🥹
I don't care what anyone says, I miss the days when it was just a bunch of people in an empty hotel room.
im 100% with you on that
i agree with you there; these days, all GDQ cares about is money. its no longer about raising money for a good cause while enjoying some games.
This comment aged very well
😎
If it was a bunch of people in a room then it wouldn't be empty would it
I watched this back in 2013 and it still holds a special place in my heart. The atmosphere was so lively and fun. Everyone was just having a good time and this run of one my favorite games growing up was just so memorable. I also miss all the earlier GDQ guests, but now most of them are banned and they can't really share the same room anymore which is so sad. The chemistry was so natural and I feel it was really taken for granted.
we didnt know how good we had it..
one of my favorite runs to go back to, i love pie's commentary and his gameplay, one of the first things that got me into agdq
no joke i've watched this run dozens of times, i love these old events where it's just a few people in a hotel room
@@CornIsYellowtheres something magical about it and the commentary is great
Doubt you'll ever read this Pie but I was extremely sick recently and I stumbled on this speed run, I loved your guys' company so much that for an entire week I laid alone watching this run over and over. Thanks for keeping me company.
Are u alive?
Hope you're doing better 🙏❤
this was the best gdq event. everything felt so fun and genuine. Especially this and the doo doo crew/toufool's mario sunshine run
Paper Mario, Banjo and Mario Sunshine from 2013 were the BEST. Shout out to doo doo doo crew.
Man, shoutouts to Blueglass for asking questions and pointing stuff out to give the runner interesting things to talk about.
As someone who's never played this game, I thought he asked some good questions. I assume he hasn't played it before either.
+joe shmo Blueglass literally said he got the Mega Rush badge on his first playthrough of the game, which obviously means he played it, it just means he doesn't remember too much about it.
+farstar31 I hate the people who dislike Blueglass. He's such an adorkable little sweetheart. He may laugh a little loud sometimes, but he's such a sweetheart to people you can start to overlook it, y'know? I heard that during one AG/SG that I think he went to pop in during everyone's runs. He's such a passionate little dorky thing, but I love that about him. I love how genuine he is. Blueglass really is a cool guy. I hope I get to meet him someday.
Yeah, I've never been able to get out to one of the events, but from the years I've watched the event, he's also one of the most supportive attendees. Most people just hear a game they've never heard of and don't attend. Blueglass not only attends those obscure runs, but he asks questions with such fervent curiosity. You gotta give the guy credit.
I really like his enthusiasm, still to this day. He's so sweet. Some might find his behavior annoying, but he's really nice to everyone and asking all those questions that some might would find stupid, or just adding in those nice little comments of encouragement or just pointing something that nobody else does: i.e, when he points out in either the hall-bowser or final-bowser fight that he gets frustrated when he doesn't land a hit on Mario. :)
I watched this 5 times. It doesn't get old.
That first try frame perfect sewer jump tho
Hahahah it's my second Time watching the speedrun
Still looking at it ^-^
At 52:55, my thoughts:
Oh man, this could take a whi- OH MY GOSH!
pieGamer
Pie looks like a nice guy and his commentary makes the run so enjoyable. Good job mate!
3:20:49 Not only does Pie clip out of bounds, he takes the entire stream with him.
Watching this again, Pie and Runnerguy both look so young, I mean holy crap it's only been like 2 years and yet they look 6+ years older now.
And now they're six years older. Strange that it seems like speed runs haven't been a big thing for all that long.
@@lukecash3500 7 years older now
@@Wuking93 Lol I guess some classic GDQ runs never get old. Good memories.
On these videos, I have seen a great deal of hate towards Blueglass. Some comments are more respectful than others, and there is a distinct possibility that no one cares what I write, but I wanted to share my 2 cents on why Blueglass is one of the most awesome people on this show.
When I was in grad school, I roomed with the Social Chair of the entire graduate school. Therefore I was volunteered every time something happened on campus. One of those events were research presentations. This is where a grad student in a plethora of disciplines would share their research with anyone who wanted to join. There were usually light to mid sized crowds at this events, but nothing extravagant. I had an opportunity to present during the fall, and I was pumped. I invited all my friends, I pulled an all nighter just to make sure my presentation was perfect, and I bought a new jacket just to look professional. On the day of the presentation, I had 5 people showed up. The moderator, 1 person from my department, 2 undergrads who needed extra credit, and my buddy Dave. I was offended, and very upset. When a handful of grad students went to the bar later that night, a couple of my friends said, "they just weren't that interested". I appreciated the honesty, but I was insulted.
Dave, on the other hand, wouldn't shut up about how cool my presentation was. To put this in perspective, Dave was the kind of person who went to every presentation regardless of who it was, or what it was about. He was a person if you were having a rough day, he'd come have a drink with you. No questions asked. He'd always asked questions, and was genuinely interested in everything you had to say. However, people perceived Dave as socially awkward. He had a vivacious and unconventional laugh, he interrupted from time to time just because of his overwhelming excitement towards another person's stories and projects. People found it "irritating" and "annoying", but he didn't care about the critics, he just lived his life, and was always there for anyone. And I made sure that night, that I bought him a pitcher of whatever he wanted for just sitting in an watching my speech.
In a community like speed running, you might have limited audiences. I hold Blueglass in the highest honor, for showing up, asking questions, giving his heart and soul to these projects, and just having a good time. There needs to be more people in this world like my buddy Dave, and Blueglass. Apologies for the dissertation, but I hope when any person in the comments has his/her big day, that a crowd shows up for your big accomplishment. If they don't, be sure to thank the Dave or Blueglass's in the world for being there for you.
I agree with this guy
Thank you for raising awareness and understanding for the socially awkward among us. I never thought blueglass was irritating either, just overly enthusiastic.
Late response, but I seriously see no reason for all the hate towards him. He's one of the kindest people in the speed-running community I've ever heard of or seen. I read somewhere once that he (at one of the GDQ events) made it a point to drop in to at least every run he was awake for. If that's the case (and seeing as it's BlueGlass, I can't imagine how it would be untrue), he has all the respect in the world from me and then some. He's the heart and soul of the speed-running community, in my personal opinion. He's always the one asking the possibly silly and/or stupid questions that nobody else would, or expressing joy in the runner getting something right, big or small. I think we all need a little more BlueGlass in our lives, and more people just like him around.
Man I had been waiting for this for MONTHS! Glad this time it happened
thanks SDA!
yw!

Doing god’s work
0:24:05 to 24:50 That donation comment, that's the reason why I like Pie, Pie is the best sellout runner on twitch. Kappa
I never get tired of watching and re-watching this run.
I come back and hang out with you guys every few months. Miss these old days. Thanks so much for keeping me company.
How does it feel to be the best Paper Mario player in the world??? That battle with the ice king was pricelss
He's actually only the 17th best: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AiHt1oJHe6o2dEpoSGtlMkFJWFlOWFdIZ3VlUzY5d3c&output=html

What does all cards mean?
pennmaster he explains it r u okay
love all these speedruns... cant stop watching them even though its reeally late, keep up the good work speed runners!!
This is still probably my favourite PM64 speedrun!
I love seeing Blue Glass in every run.. If this were a TV show and the runners were the characters in the show the he'd be my favourite.
This was the peak of speedrunning. Again, corporate greed has ruined something that was once beautiful. Happy I was able to watch cosmo/pie/werster in the golden era. Things just aren't the same
Worth it alone for the fusion dance at the end! That said this run was fantastic! Im glad I sat through the whole thing.
53:00 Dat blue house skip. Never gets old.
Even in 2021

53:02 Replay
this run has the most comfortable vibe to it. not sure why, but it's one I go back to year after year. I just love it
2:27:03 - The slow decent of Peaches' sanity.
Really good at explaining the crazy stuff that's going on and still making it make sense.
Japanese games have faster text because less characters (kanji's) are use than letters in the English language. More can be said with less text, therefore takes less time to go through.
"So I'm gonna clip out of bounds..." Stream cuts out. Life hacks.
this damn guy keeps eating my pie
53:00 The screams when he did that glitch. WOO
The fusion at the end made this video for me!
Oh hi
Hey there dude!
awesome games, with a awesome community and also awesome runners, well, sgqd is awesome, keep up the good work :)
I wish gdq's still had this vibe. Its long gone now.
Blue House Skip 53:05
I've Watched this 6 times already love this game
Me too!
3:11:25 lady in the back door was like shit, this doesn't look like the meeting room
I wish i was this guys friend growing up. This is sweet. teaching me so much i didn't notice. In a game I've beaten hundreds of times.
2:11:25
Old man river explanation, right before he sings it.
Not leveling up your HP? Wow....that is insanity. I was a senior in high school when this came out and still love it today. Finally replaying it after all these years...and I STILL suck at action commands -_-
Chop When you play the game as much as he has and have a good understanding of all the game's mechanics and bestiary, 10HP is plenty, and substantially faster :p
***** In PM2 5 HP is in it self too much since super guarding everything is quite easy. I usually had 15 HP because it was all I needed because I could super guard majority of attacks from the game.
***** Huh well I have really fast reflexes and my guesses are usually accurate so I usually don't have problems. To each their own I guess.
***** No! I didn't mean to make you were inferior. I've had the game for about 13 years. I always play it when I'm bored or need a nostalgic blast. So about all the time. So naturally I got good at it.
***** I've got no other excuse then. I played it a lot when I was young and just got good a super guarding.
And here I am thinking about all those life shrooms you didn't have to use because Bowser was so nice to you.
14:38 to skip the painful start of prologue
Spike and Trihex, The Frobros.
When the stream went down during chapter 8 was the perfect timing, right when pie says "So I'm gonna clip out of bounds." and then the stream goes out, he didn't clip out of bounds, he clip out of the stream!
Forget about the Duet thingy. SpikeVegeta+ iateyourpie + blueglass+ PJ = the new beatles
the Koopas DO give you something! After the fuzzies are gone, if you helped ALL the Koopas get their shells back, in one of the places where there was a shell there will be a star piece instead.
Hell yeah a speed runner from Milwaukee! Love this game and the community.
Loved this game. I got it back in 2002. I remember when I was stuck on chapter 2 for 2 years. I couldn't figure out what to do. It took me so long to figure out you had to get lemons and shit. But whatever, I finally beat it when I was in 6th grade in early 2005. Huff and Puff was a bitch too, but now he's my favorite boss
loool we have the same mind who tf r u
Oh god when they rubbed afros it left a huge indent in Trihex's.
2:39:12 Afro rub!
Thank gawd no ads in dis vid at all
Remember when GDQ was a small event and there were no controversies surrounding it?
Good times.
This is gonna be an awesome run, I can already tell :D.
This run has too many threes, they need to give some to Valve.
I like People speedrunning games like pie and cosmo, because they Show us how to play games right :D
yeahhh, play it "right"
b4107 Who needs to play games right when you can skip a huge chunk of it?
exactly!
At the very end when everyone started clapping, I clapped without even thinking about it. Haha, amazing run!
Back when Owen Wilson was still living happily with his family, watching GDQ.
2:13:32 is Old Man River.
This guy is great
dat fusion dance
Is it me or do I love hearing pie’s clicking noises on the controller?
i played this game once...
Once...
You could say this speedrun was *three.*

He's a good speed runner.
"Hardest fight, serious time"
Wait, doesn't he have 10 heal-- oh, yeah, trolled.

Best Mario RPG forever.
(PM2 fans, calm down!)
NUGH! Right in the opinion gland...
What about Sticker Star?! (Obviously joking.)
ttyd is better, it is a fact sorry lmao
Why can't people say that they like both and end the argument?
I always find myself torn, liking neither more than the other.
Nobody for SMRPG? The world is changing and I'm scared.
I love SMRPG and PM1+2 all an incredible amount.
Definitely glad my comment was in there somewhere still happy about it and EC4 still lives on. ^_^

1:22:00 Oh god Blueglass can see the future
1:34:58 lolll wtf that menuing synced up to the music perfectly
im trippin xd
If anyone is looking for the Old Man River duet, it is in the Rayman Origins run in the first few minutes of the video.
Old man river is at 2:13:22 for any who wish to hear.
one of my favourite games
Kolorado is a speedrunner too.
she mentions In and Out Burgers, now I want some lol
Nobody has even tried speed run with Pal/Usa version (Can't find any in youtube or i just missing)? Well after watching this, i played Paper Mario (Pal version) and beat game in 5 hours and 31 minutes.
"Goombario is the most useless partner" It's true, in a speedrun. But if not it's definitly the most overpowered partner, since it deals from far the most damage
Chapter 6
NOT THE BEES
so glad I found out that you sped run my favorite game :)
MAJOR highlight starting at 52:48.
Epic fusion!
Just want to go back to 2012 honestly the gdqs felt so much more personable and comfy.
LOL at the singing. Im a huge pie fan now
Awesome FUSION!!!!
