WHY SO MUCH HATE? | 2024 Yamaha R7 *First Ride*

- I’m finally able to throw a leg over the Yamaha R7 and I must say I like it. Not sure why this bike gets so much hate but it wasn’t made to out perform the R6. I think this is the perfect bike for the street without the aggressiveness of the R6 and can be setup for track duty.

Who loves their R7?
Hey there, great video. R7 owner here, who predominately rides it on track. The reason that the R7 gets hate is because it lacks the top end of true "Super Sports". Mine tops out around 135 mph, and on long straights where 1000s are doing 190 you feel like you're sitting still.
However, where the R7 LOVES to be is in the twisties and corners. It's an incredibly light bike, but also very well balanced. On stock suspension I can feel great levels of stability mid corner. On small, technical tracks the R7 will eat up bigger, heavier bikes.
The truth is a large majority of street riders care about 1 thing, and it's how fast they can go in a straight line. They think just because they can top out an R7 they "need" a faster bike, when in reality they're probably a terrible rider.
Nice! And thank you for this comment! You proved my point that people want big bikes to go straight and half of them hardly lean their bikes over. I don’t care for highway riding, I’d rather hit twisties consistently or go to the track. Unless you race professionally, lower hp bikes work for 99% of us mere mortals. I won’t lie the power of a 1000 is fun no doubt there, but also people hide low skill behind more powerful bikes.
@ even on the track you have guys hiding behind power and rider aids. It’s better to go fast on a slow bike than slow on a fast bike.
I cannot tell you how many times I have SMOKED people with twice and triple the power of the R7 on track. Not on the straights obviously, but on the brakes I can fly by them no problem rear-wheel up. Whoever says that the R7 is not fast enough, they don't know how to actually use the power
Say it louder for the people in the back 👏
Ooh he’s back! Welcome back chief!
Thanks! It’s good to be back!
It gets hate by folks who are pissed the R6 was dropped. It's an MT07 wrapped in fairings with clip-ons. Personally, I don't hate it, but I don't understand it either. It's woefully slow yet portrays itself in all aspects as a supersport, down to the aggressive ergonomics. The bike is good looking, but it's like an average woman using filters.
Being an older rider, I couldn't imagine riding in that uncomfortable position and not getting the main benefit of a supersport...speed. Being "practical" for road use is not an argument. Practical would be the MT07 and a comfortable riding position, especially for newer riders. But for some reason (perhaps price?) it's clearly popular so I can't slam on Yamaha or hate on the bike. If it gets more people riding that's a good thing. I'm on a '23 Busa, but if I wasn't, I'd be more inclined to grab the R9 when it comes out. It at least has 600 supersport power with more bottom end torque. If the R9 had released when the R6 was dropped, I think people would be more chill about the whole thing. Just my 2 cents.
Fair enough. I do think it has its place and there are some who like to use it as a track bike. I’m actually getting the R9 so we will see how it compares to both R7 and R6.
@@itsmeericb looking forward to it!
Also it's a great bike for people with A2 license in Europe like me. It looks good, it sounds good (at least to me), it has a tried and true engine with good torque, and it just feels amazing to ride. I sometimes doubt my decision of getting this bike (mostly because social media always tells you it's trash and whatnot) but whenever I'm riding it I always fall in love again.
I mean if you like a busa then sure, but some people actually like sports bikes, and they like to ride them in more than just a straight line. They want to work on them. An r7 isn't slow compared to other bikes in it's class but it is very well priced compared to other bikes in the class with lots of videos detailing upgrades and a healthy aftermarket.
7:50 No modes on r7 which was another selling point for me. They have to include abs here which can pull the fuse on. But other than that it is just you and the bike.
@@bearwolffish Nice and simple
People gonna hate all they want. I have to be honest I love my R7. I do understand where people coming from about the power because I also have an R6 but my order seven is plenty powerful enough for the highway.
This is a nice bike, imo. I like that one can rev it high and play through the gears.
Cool helmet too! 😅
Ignored all the r3 recommendations for my 1st bike and got the r7. Best decision iv ever made. I did ride it very carefully and just road it around the neighborhood at first, practiced then took it out on the streets after about 80 miles.
Hey that’s good to hear! If this was around when I got my R3 I would’ve gotten the R7 instead.
People aren't serious, they compare it to an r6 which is just silly. Would you compare an r3 to an r1?
I don't like the look of nakeds but the cp 2 is a great street engine. R7 is a wheelie machine, that looks gorgeous, well priced, with lots of guides detailing work and a huge healthy parts aftermarket. Cheaper to insure, ride and run, but with more workable power for anyone not just going in straight lines on the highway.
Love my conering mini-torque beast. Fantastic sport bike.
Dream bike 🏍️🏍️R7 Love from India
Love the exhaust sound! Did you ever figure out what slip-on it was? Sure would like to know!!
It did sound good! Never knew what it was and it could’ve been and eBay muffler for all I know lol.
@@itsmeericbI thought you couldn’t put a slip on the R7? Thought you had to put a full system on….
That sounds GOOD!! Did you ever find out the name of the exhaust??
No unfortunately
Some one told me that the R7 is like the Toyota AE86 of the motorcycle world. Its not a fast bike but its a bike that teaches the rider. Im pretty sure he got that off Bunta from Initial D but thinking about it sort of makes sense if you think about it
@@lifeon2wheels86 That actually is a good analogy!
I like the bike, but I don't think the cost would justify going back to that from the MT-07 perspective. Namastè.
R9 will fix a lot of the issues, but the hate will stay :)
Yeah people are still going to hate on the R9 regardless. If it’s not an R6 or R1 it’s just terrible. 😂
I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on one, would be my first on road bike, I come from a motocross background, I have a new Fc450, I feel as if this would be a good starter bike, what's you're thoughts? I would love to stop by sometime, I'm not far at all from Clarksville
@@joshmansfield9706 I think I wouldn’t be too bad and you have some motorcycle experience when I comes to handling and throttle. It wouldn’t be a handful and you wouldn’t have a need to upgrade right away like you would if you got a 400cc.
@itsmeericb I also was considering the R9 when it comes out
Your filming is really good. Presented the bike well.
Thank you! Really appreciate it.
I love the R7, just dont like the price point and it became a social media bike. I saw ppl with an R7 and pistas and that just doesnt sit right with me. I bought a 22 zx6r KRT for 9000 and a 17 CBR1000RR for 10.5. The fact that the R7 is similar in prices to those bikes is beyond me
Yeah but that is mostly all bikes being a social media bike. lol And yes Pistas and R7’s does seem a little weird but hey, it’s their money. R7 is still cheaper than something like an Aprilia RS660.
@@itsmeericb Wouldn't touch one yamahas dont have issues in the long term.
db killer in ?

Ninja 250 < Ninja 400 < Ninja 500 < R7 < 600 supersport
WHAT IS THAT EXHAUST!
@@grissom3310 I’m not sure. It didn’t have any labeling on the muffler.
Bro, I have done that with my R7 when it like somehow doesn't shift from 3 -4. I feel like its me sometimes not pulling in the clutch all the way or something.
Hmm very weird indeed
@@itsmeericb Check the chain tension they will hit false neutrals if theres too much chain slack.
It's not a bad bike, just badly priced
omg this guy is talk the very first thing i see is a guy toppling an r7
Looks crazy slow compared to my old r6. They should have called it an r5 or r4.
Good looking bike but obviously not as fast as an R6. It wasn’t built to be like an R6 though. I do agree they should have called it something else.
