Cutting my teeth with that year and obviously Axe Attack was a music must have and glad I had it back then. Top five AC/DC ,Maiden, Saxon, Priest and the Scorps. Great year.....
Can't disagree with your list, but mine personally would be: 1. Iron Maiden 2. Heaven and Hell 3. British Steel 4. Back in Black 5. Wheels of Steel Great show! Look forward to 1981
1. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell 2. Blue Oyster Cult - Cultosaurus Erectus 3. Rush - Permanent Waves 4. Scorpions - Animal Magnetism 5. Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Great show again guys. Axe Attack was basically my gateway to Metal! Got it as a birthday present. First time I ever walked into a record shop and bought an album with my own money the album in question was Ace of Spades. 2nd time it was Wheels of Steel!
Great show fellas, 1980 is just an embarrassment of riches but I can't wait for 1981, that might be even better...for every Heaven & Hell there's a Mob Rules, for every Blizzard there's a Diary, for every Iron Maiden there's a Killers and then there's High n Dry. Good work guys, looking forward to the next one!
Great Top 5, not much argument there, personally I'd have Iron Maiden in at number one, Rush and Whitesnake would make my Top five as opposed to Saxon and Priest but good lord... How do you exclude ANY of them. Looking forward to the next one!
1980 one of my favorite years as a young Metal Head i was 14 in 1980 i was obsessed with the Great Bands from the NWOBHM movement and other great hard rock bands as well Sabbath Saxon Priest Def Leppard Maiden UFO MSG Rush BOC Diamond Head Motorhead Scorpions Budgie ACDC VH Mahogany Rush Thin Lizzy
Great choices. Had a lot to look forward to getting much later when I got into the genre. Two albums that were also released in 1980 aren't albums that would be covered on this show - Closer by Joy Division and Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by Dead Kennedys - are played as much as Wheels of Steel, On Through the Night etc. Wouldn't be admitting that 43 years back.
Good shout out regarding Neil Murray. I think the big difference in early Whitesnake and the US version of the band was not the change in guitarists, but the presence of the bass in the mix. His spider like bass runs were all over the early albums and just enhanced the songs so much. Then for ’87 he seemed to be asked to play more basic lines, that really aren’t heard as much, and for me, the music was all the poorer for it. If you compare the two versions of Fool For Your Lovin’, I don’t actually mind all the Vai-isms on guitar, some are quite fun, but what really sets the original apart is the bass.
Hard not to duplicate the picks mentioned, here’s my list 1 Angel Witch - self titled 2 Iron Maiden - self titled 3 Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell 4 Saxon - Wheels of Steel 5 Tygers of Pan Tang - Wild Cat
@@talesfromthepowerage Your Power Age crew did an excellent job at selecting the top 12 from 1980 to 1984. Many choices that didn’t make my list and many that did. I was 14 turning 15 in 1980 and the music was an extreme turning point in my life, helped me get through some tough times back then. Still find myself constantly revolving back to the NWOBHM era, it was outstanding. Anyway, awesome set of videos. Keep up the great work. Happy New Year and all the best in 2024.

Hey Roger, you are so right,
I take it you agree with the Official top 5, as brought to you by TFTPA? Or is yours different?

I wondered if Rush would get some love from our viewers..Yeh it was so interesting, it really doesn’t get any easier as we go through the decade!!!
