As a long term high school math teacher. 1.Grades are inflated. 2. Not all schools teach all required curriculum required for college courses. 3. Even when teaching units some more difficult material is removed so grades are high. 4. The SAT is a national standardized test, so colleges can see who has learned the material. 5. For higher income families the money spent on tutors, test preparations absolutely helps their children score higher.

Is it possible that Kids from high income families have on average higher IQ that they genetically inherited from their parents.?

Byandj.. I see kids who are not book smart, but can take apart machinery or want to weld or sew. Other kids love to draw play an instrument. . Are kids who are bored by books , less smart/lower IQ? I donot know.

@@irwinsaltzman979 I believe in different kinds of intelligence, like being mechanically inclined, or gifted artistically, but academically the SAT /ACT does mean something. In an extremely competitive school the SAT is essential to getting the best student, but for most colleges it might not be necessary. Besides, you can go to a community college, get really good grades and then when you have 30 credits apply without an SAT score, so what's the big deal. ? Ivy league on the other hand different, a person with a 1000 SAT has no business being in an Ivy School no matter what their GPA is Thanks for Responding.

Makes perfect sense. GPA is relative only to the school it came from. Need a baseline to compare students between schools.

Agreed , competency is very important in STEM, medical and even legal fields
The US has been lagging behind other western country in competence over the past 20 years

Good. Now get rid of affirmative action. Remove race and gender from admissions.

A lot of these IVY schools are now handing out As to everyone so there can be no failure and they can prove that SATs make no difference. These schools are a lot smarter than the average bear.

This doesn't transfer over to a job
When the student is incompetent, they will be replaced
So now a student won't have a job but a huge loan to pay back!

Employers are starting to NOT take graduates from these schools
Or employers will give their own exam before hiring

I prepared 20 hours for the old GRE in 2002, and got 800 Q, 770 V. Ask those who understand what things mean!

Removing the policy only helped unqualified nepo babies... Poor kids are smart enough to get excellent scores. They are not given the education on test taking skills that would benefit them.
All these admission policies lower the bar for Nepo babies. That's it, that's all.

So they are reinstating the SAT.? So What.? Go to a community college or a college that will let you in, and then transfer when you get 30 credits. If you can apply for transfer admission with a 3.7 GPA that should be good enough for most colleges. If not then maybe you do not have the intellect to get into that school. Sometimes you have to accept the hand that you are given and make the most of it.

much ado about nothing ...as bringing the tests back wont change anything in terms of the types of students admitted to elite schools
