I recently moved abroad and whenever I feel drained I call a friend from back home and feel recharged after the conversation, regardless of what we were talking about. A friend calling me brightens my day. If you want to call a friend just call them, don't stress about the timing or what they will think, it's a good habit to get into and keeps you better connected than messaging
A key difference being there's probably a decade in time between those two! This lady (to adults): talk to a stranger A mom (when you're less than 10 years old): Don't talk to strangers
Here are my suggestions: 1. Get plenty of sleep . At least 8 hours per night . Exercise regularly . Have a diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and be careful where you get your protein .. 2. Put some effort into your relationships . Be nice to people and expect them to be nice to you . 3. Match your studies and your job to your talents and interests . Have realistic goals based on those talents and interests . Don`t underestimate yourself , but don`t over estimate yourself either . 4. Don`t clutter your life with too many clothes or too much furniture or more " toys" than you need . 5. Help other people . Volunteer or whatever , but make a point of helping others . 6. Work hard at whatever your " job" is but limit your work to 52 hours per week .
I watched this video yesterday. This morning at my doctor's appt, I looked around to make contact w/ a stranger. I exchanged hello's with the cleaning lady, then a fellow patient who I kept making eye contact with, told me to have a great day. On my way home, a man on the street apologized 'cause he thought he was blocking me. I said it's all good- and as we walked, he told me how his mom taught him to respect women, and always "ladies first." He said he had three other siblings but that his mom said he was her favorite. After that, I gave money to a homeless women then asked if she was okay. I'd never done that before- I usually just silently give money. She said that she couldn't get into the shelters. She said that she'll be getting help from her siblings soon but that she had to survive until then. I told her to keep trying the shelters and to keep strong. I went to Starbucks and bought some sandwiches for her and went home. All of this is kind of insane for me. It feels like I'm in a different world now
You changed their lives for the better too. True happiness leads us to want to see others happy and doing well and the more we reach out to connect & try to help others or those we love the better it makes us feel better too. If only more people were awake & looking for those in need🔥
OMYGOD Laura was my instructor in this course through Yale, and I also received my certificate!! She was such an awesome instructor, she made you feel like she was your friend, and I also loved learning about meditation, gratitude and other things to help me live a happier life overall!! I highly recommend this course and I love that I can always go back and take the course just to refresh what I've learned and keep applying it to my life especially, indeed scary, uncertain times!!❤️🥰🙏🏼
I have finished (and got the certification) for this Yale course in Coursera. This class has absolutely been life changing, and surprisingly there's more science and discipline in being happy than expected. I recommend this to everyone who's going though tough sh**. :)
Javaria Yaqub sorry hear ur struggling with depression. I’ve been there I fall back in there but we can always crawl out. When you face the sun the shadows fall behind you.
8: food you eat (or better say deficiency on certain nutrients) directly affects your mood. 9: physical fitness, body needs to burn energy, cells need to renew, (think of your high energy dog breeds that need to burn energy outside every day)
I love how people 50+ especially, in their 70's, 80's He'll 90's, are going to school to further their education and also, for personal development!!❤️❤️❤️🥰
Well, in her course she sais that once the basic needs are covered (food, healthcare, home, etc) money is not as determinant as we think in order to makes us happier
All it is, is that these people feel disconnected to the people they love, they need love and connection to feel happier, this even happens in animals. Loneliness can cause us to feel this way.
Thank God for Jordan Peterson who steers youngsters away from this sort of quackery. Calling this science really beats the cake. By the way, Psychology isn't a hard science and happiness is a byproduct. If youngsters are emotionally vulnerable these days it's because their weak helicopter parents have failed to accustom them to the hardships of human existence. I have an 18 and a 11 year old, raised by a set of principles propagated by professionals like Peterson (real developmental and behaviour psychologists) way before these professors came into the public eye and the results are simply staggering.
Hey, Now This. I love this channel, but PLEASE stop putting links to other videos over the final words of the one I’m actually watching! Super frustrating.
Diet and what meds you take can cause depression.. Alcohol is a depressant. Don't drink. Studying never hurt anybody but not sleeping does.. Get into a routine and stay with it..No drinking or smoking grass eat healthy, read the labels..
Meditation is to relieve the mind from the endlessness of responsibility and the overloading of the senses. The best choices should remain to encourage better discipline. I wish science disciplines would operate in unison creating a trifecta
"Real happiness isn't just about hippy, ephemeral, granola stuff." **proceeds to suggest hippy, ephemeral, granola stuff. And I beg to differ, he who increases his knowledge, increases his sorrow. Today's generation is depressed and suicidal because they do not take the information they receive in stride. Happiness is subjective.

Limiting your freedom=self-discipline. For example, I am free to eat all the junk food I want, but I have self-discipline so I restrict myself from that freedom.
End HOMEWORK! One should study while in the school, after that is home personal life. Because homework exist we are unable to concentrate in class and be present, and always have that worry and insatisfaction in the back of our minds Homework is the root cause of all my stress, unhappiness and lack of learning during the class in all my academic years End it since preschool all the way to college!
Happy are the people whose God is the Lord (Psalm 144). Happiness to me is less important than Joy in the Lord because circumstances may change from moment to moment. An enduring Joy in Jesus Christ is what sustains me here on earth and into eternity after I leave this wicked and corrupt world.
so, my depressed, suicidal brain has been teaching itself to be a minimalist, procrastinator, weird conversation starter with strangers, wsnting to always sleep, trying to find things to be happy about and trying to find friends who will actually pick up and not ignore more for being a depressing person who has clearly! been trying his whole life to be more positive! haha cool, still didnt need school for happiness 🤦🏽♂️
Scientifically speaking, money doesn't actually buy happiness. It's not true that the more money you make, the happier to get. Try and be more humble about your own situation for a change. Be grateful for what you already have and it doesn't have to be materialistic.
1. Talk to a stranger
2. Meditate
3. Reduce your number of choices
4. Focus less on an end goal
5. Call a friend
6. Keep a gratitude journal
7. Sleep
I love you

Not going to an ivy league school just to become a teacher or anthropologist and owing a million dollars in student loans. Now that's true happiness.

I dunno. I prefer when complete strangers don't talk to me when I'm in line or anywhere lol
I would give it a try. People generally love being approached and it's flattering when someone takes the time to get to know you.
