I wondered the same, but by all accounts this isn't the case.
To be fair, the average American isn't terribly knowledgeable about guns, either. Not because "Americans are dumb" or whatever, but because the extent of our "gun culture" isn't as widespread as people tend to think. Yeah, we have a lot of guns, but it's estimated that half of them are owned by only about 3% of the people. So, you have a lot of people who don't own any guns, a lot of people who own one for home defense and the like, and a small handful who own fucktons of guns each. For the majority of us, guns just aren't a part of our daily lives.
I work in security, and I'm still willing to bet that I see a picture of a gun less often than an American unknowingly sits next to someone strapping a piece in public.
I carry every day as does every other adult male I know.
It honestly depends on where you are in the country, whether someone is likely to be a gun owner or not. For example, obviously laws surrounding ownership vary by state. Also, if you’re in a rural or suburban area not too far from fertile hunting grounds, the likelihood of someone at least owning a gun for that activity will obviously be higher and there are various factors that will contribute to the greater likelihood and incidence of gun ownership in a given location. There are still more guns than people in the U.S. so the chance of encountering them is obviously very high, especially when compared to other countries.

Weightlifting never stopped, it was just seen as a distinct sport rather than an all-around excersise. You wouldn't go lift weights to get stronger back then just like nowdays you wouldn't go out to throw javelins for that purpose, but people who chose to pursue the activity itself still very much did it

Justification was that the engine could run constantly whereas the horses needed resting so

Who would I least want to be in a physical confrontation with? Well, anyone, really. I'm a pacifist. But besides that (and Jackie Chan), it would probably be my dad. He's in his late 70s but while I was playing video games, he worked 12 hours a day doing hard physical labor, and he would probably kick my ass, still. Besides, he's the nicest and kindest man, so if he did physically attack me, I must have done something really really REALLY bad, so I'd probably deserve it.
