      I don't think it's fair to call her the godmother of _modern_ science. You know if anything this episode shows that life has another problem that can never be fixed. It shows that humanity needs balance in life which is something we as a species will never know because balance requires order and we are inherently chaotic beings.

    • @bryaneberly3588
      @bryaneberly3588 3 года назад +13

      Balance emerges from chaos constantly.
      Yes, when you swirl in the milk into your tea, it creates chaos, but when it all stirs together, a perfectly ordered cup of tea results.

    • @iamnotcameron
      @iamnotcameron 3 года назад +7

      Everything is subject to chaos. But I think what people really ignore, or just don't see, is how easy we have it. Most animals spend their entire waking life struggling for food or shelter, while we actually have some time for leisure. We arguably have it the easiest of any animal, but our consciousness makes us more aware that we're "working" just to live like any other animal.

    • @bryaneberly3588
      @bryaneberly3588 3 года назад +3

      @@iamnotcameron It might come with the territory of being both prey and predator, whose vision evolved on the savannah. We notice and analyze every thing. Anything could be a danger.

    • @iamnotcameron
      @iamnotcameron 3 года назад +2

      @@bryaneberly3588 True, humans occupy a weird niche in the world. Our brains have let us take over the world, but the brain doesn't necessarily make us "better" than other animals with different adaptations. I mostly think about stuff like this when I hate my daily grind at work. At least I have my house, food, whatever I need. A few hours a day to spend on recreation is more than most of the world's animals have.

      Your discussion made me think that a law of physics can also apply to philosophy. There is a law of physics that says that everything will become more random i.e. chaotic unless you put work/energy into it. Maybe human life is supposed to be about putting effort/work into life to keep it from getting chaotic and the problem with the Good Place's Good Place was that it removed our need to put work in and therefore robbed the inhabitants of their meaning/purpose.

      Not really, Heaven isn't a 'perfect' place in Christianity. "Paradise still has rain and high humidity" - a dude from Florida. The idea is in paradise isn't perfection, but rather a place not spoiled by evil where God is present. So still the occasional tornado ... but it misses all the houses. Still the occasional 104 degree days but the AC doesn't break. There are mosquitoes on the hike, but you bug spray doesn't wear off and you won't get malaria if you get bit. Still have to do your laundry but the warranty on the washing machine is eternal.
      Or another way to look at it is, it is a perfect place with the perfect amount of problems and challenges to make it perfectly enjoyable.

      It would only work if your Heaven was different from another's. And then everything in it was a heavenly perfect version of what you always wished it to be. For example, if you had an abusive parent; but in heaven they weren't for no explicable reason.

      Besides, Jane Fonda...who uses surgery is still close to what she looked like younger...and she is older than them. I think Jen and Courtney were not that lucky. Too bad!

    Why are American networks obsessed with an English accent that 99.9% of people here do not speak. We have the most diverse accent ranges per mile anywhere yet all television land projects is the acting school of Downton Abbey revisited.

      I believe that’s actually Jameelas voice. She talks relatively the same in interviews, except a lot more cursing

      That’s how Jameela actually speaks. She’s actually British. A lot of upper-class British people speak like that. Tahani is supposed to be an extremely wealthy, self-centered character.

      @@thenablade858 Maybe typecast because she did attend a £21,000 per year independent school for education. British people is truthfully English because Welsh and Scottish accents differ however the old English dialect is still considered favourable for power and wealth status. Representations extends beyond skin colour which was all I highlighted. Nothing personal about the actor.
