Generally when I think of Vans I think of Skateboarding, when I think of Skateboarding I immediately think of Vans So skateboarding and Vans go together like Apple products and technology.

Geoff Rowley did a lot for Vans when it comes to core skateboarding consumers. During the 90's Vans wanted to go away from their classic look and focus on more techincal design,since that was the norm during that era. But it simply didn't fit for them. But the good part was that they had Geoff Rowley on their team,who at the time was one of the best skateboarders in the world. He did insane tricks in his videoparts,lots of skateboarders looked up to him...and Geoff always did his tricks in the classic Vans shoes. He promoted that look in his video parts and it also helped that he was in tony hawk pro skater video games. Nobody at that time did more for Vans skateboarding than he did. I can't think of a better shoe costumer than a skateboarder. Basketball player,football player might have the same pair of shoes for half a season. Skateboarders on other hand need new shoes non stop. Is a cosutmer that keeps coming back over and over again.
Hikmet Sugoer did a brand check on vans and told the story of how van dorren made the waffle sole in his waffle maker at home. He fitted them individually.
I have a pair of custom SK8 Hi’s with comfy Cush and my feet still hurt after a skate session. Airwalks were the shit for me but that was way back in the 80’s. Now I skate in UA Valsetz with a gel insole.

Vans has what so many other shoe and clothing brand are desperately trying to achieve: an authentic status co-signed by skateboarding culture. Nike is getting close, but Weckingball just set them back a few years and Louis Vuitton can’t do that with a $700 skate shoe.
I’d say it was a pretty good business idea to start making shoes for people who are gonna absolutely shred them and still go and buy the exact same ones.

Just started back skateboarding and my wife got me a pair of vans slip ons to skate in. Within 2 weeks the shoes had 3 holes all the way through to my socks 🤦♂️
They've always put back into skate, and that's why they're loved. They're in it for the money, obviously, but they make skating a better sport in being big.

I grew up just a few miles from the Vans factory in Anaheim. You had to cross several railroad tracks to get to it. Then you smelled the rubber. As kids we would plead with our mother not to buy Vans shoes because it told everyone at school that you were poor and couldn’t afford Adidas or Converse. Now they are cool.
My ultimate skate shoe is an air jordan 1 high, also vans does some very sketchy shit to have their shoes classified as sandals/slippers and cheap out on materials so they can save on taxes and shipping costs but still market it as a "shoe" when taking ur money

As a guy who stands at 5" 11" i have quite big feet at a uk size 12 i use a skateboard to get from a-b but thats about it Vans (especially sk8-his) are my choice of footwear as theyre comfortable af come in so many different colours and styles and dont make look like im wearing clown shoes, its one of the only brands i have loyality towards as usually i dont understand why people dont try the field more but i always tried growing up (as much as i could without feeling guilty for spending money that wasnt mine) ive worn other big brands in recent years since making my own cash and each and everyone doesnt suit and feels uncomfortable on me Now im 18 and im still yet to find a brand as good as vans for me personally I wear them almost constantly and im not a sneaker head so im not overly bothered if they get trashed as thats the intent

I guess some people just have issues with certain brands. Like I got a pair of Adidas Tyshawns and I couldn't even get a full session in before I had to swap them out.
