Did I miss something? I kept waiting to hear what years you are comparing. And by the way, the LS 400 is a superior car to All the other LS cars and also is quieter and rides better than the 430. I had two 400s and now have a 2006 /430, but I wish I had a 2000/400.@@funjunkiegarage
I want to get my mom a 430 she travels a lot for her job and she deserves to be comfortable can't wait to see the look on her face when I finally save enough for her to see the inside ❤️
Thanks for that excellent comparison review of two magnificent cars. I started out wanting an IS300; then I wanted the GS300; now I'm convinced it's the LS430 that is calling to me, softly softly but oh so sweetly. I've only been in one so far, and it hadn't come from a good home (IYKWIM) but it still ran so quietly I didn't realize the motor was running until I got behind the wheel. That car had been sadly mistreated but it drove like a dream; it just needed too many repairs (cracked windshield, steering wheel motors broken, etc.) that I had to walk away. I'm still looking, I know there's one waiting for me somewhere that's been well maintained, it's just a matter of finding it!
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. Sometimes you got to walk away, but the right one will find you. Enjoy the search. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your support of my channel
I would be happy with either of these models. Whoops, I am halfway there. Have a 2005 LS430 and love it to bits. Best car I have ever owned (from a long list). But I know that the 400 is an equally exciting proposition.
I was recently in the market for an LS and ended up with the 430. I think the 400 is awesome. But they were consistently more expensive with higher miles than the 430. It seems the enthusiasts have really latched on to the 400, which makes the 430 a real sweet spot for the time being. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It just depends on your budget and the car's history.
I'm glad you found a 430 that suits you. The 400 is definitely more sought after and therefore more valuable. I agree, can't go wrong with either. Enjoy your 430. Thanks for watching and sharing.
You need to see the Japanese top of the line LS400 it’s called CF package ( top of the line). It’s got air suspension but the real cool feature are in the back seats armrest(like the new one’s) it’s got rear heated, two way powered seats audio control, massaging & power headrests. The vvti version 1UZ makes as much power as the new 3uz in the 430 so the it’s a real challenge for me if i wanna upgrade. The differences that i know of are the cooling seats upfront & sun shades.
Nice review, agree with everything! I would say the 430 gets 20 mpg avg and not due to the drive on the vid. I've also never heard of 1UZ getting 29mpg, but that's great if you do.
damn both are nice, 1 feature LS400 has and LS430 doesn't is the 2 individual Sigarete lighters!!!! You can place two USB chargers back there and that's a feature you only get inside DODGE RAM TRX or a G CLASS... That awesome feature is worth a million to my eyes I know LS430 has SIgarele lighter too but only 1.... Imagine the amount of possibilities you have for the back seat passengers with those two electric ports on each door
No it doesn't. I have rear facing vents in the back of the console. But I don't have a cool box. The top portion of the console stays fairly cool, but it's not very big. The bottom portion gets warm on long drives. Thanks for watching.
The LS400 did not offer an air ride suspension from the factory. However many aftermarket manufacturers make adjustable air ride suspension systems for the LS400. So you can make an LS400 that you can lower by the push of a button, but not a factory option. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I had a 98 LS400 and I loved that car. Like a dummy, I sold it and bought a C5 Corvette. Every time I drove the Vette, I wish I had my Lexus back. I sold it to a woman who had her crack head friend change the timing belt. Well, he took it apart, got stoned, and could not remember how to put it back together. So the car was thrown away. It was in showroom condition when I sold it to her. A real tragedy. Fast forward to last year and I bought a 2005 LS430 with 39k miles. It is absolutely beautiful and it is a great car. I hate to admit it but I like the 400 better. The author of this video is correct. The 400 is for people who like to drive and the 430 is for people who like to be driven around. Nonetheless, I love the 430 and I will keep it forever. The low mileage LS's are getting hard to find.
Sad story about your 400 for certain. I think the 400 is the best LS ever. That's my 400 in the video. I did sell it to a nice young couple who had an LS400 already and they still have it, I see it occasionally around town. Nice to hear you found a sweet 430. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many many miles. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate your support.
There's a price to pay for all the whistles and bells, as the car ages. My 1997 LS400 has more features than I can utilize. Real luxury is an unbreakable engine, the quietness and the freedom from obsolescence that comes with dignified, classic lines. Cookie cutter grilles and lots of swooping curves on front and back date your car very quickly. Listening, Lexus?
I owned a 1997 W140 S-Class. Now I drive, as my daily driver, a 2005 LS430 that I've owned since new. Can't really remember how they compare but if I recall, the ride is very similar. It's just a base model, but maybe that's a good thing ... no nav, no Levinson stereo etc. We just drove it on a 12 hour drive and it was perfect. There's no reason I can find to get a new car. It's so reliable and so comfortable. Mine is Flint Mica with a black interior and has the 18" 5-spoke wheels ... I keep reading about how these things are frumpy-looking but in my opinion it looks just fine. My wife had a 2017 LS460 and that was a cool car too -- powerful and oh so smooth -- but somehow it didn't seem quite as special as the 430.

Any 20 + year old Lexus is still far better and more reliable than a new BMW, Mercedes or anything on the road. No comparison = Lexus with 150,000, 200,000 + miles on their engine means you’ve still got another 150,000, 200,000 miles + to go ( or more )

In the LS430 there is a button to raise and lower the rear sunshade.
One up front and 1 for the rear seat passenger.
Rear lower option is only on the UL tho...just one button in the front for us w/the base model lol
