Jay was interviewed once about his long guitar solos and how intricate they tend to be and how focused he looks. He replied with, "I don't know about that. There's been lots of times I'm performing a solo and wondering what I'm going to have for dinner that night". Needles to say, he's my favorite guitarist.
I get that he's a great songwriter who can write poignant, heartfelt lyrics. But the thing I like most about him are his guitar solos. They take you on a journey, man.
He started out on hard to play rough instruments. And his fingers are tough as nails. He clearly digs in deep and plays with heavy emotion. This mixed with his super guitar talent and I don't like to bring this up, but his struggles with depression and pain... You add it all up and you get one hell of a musician that no one can come close to replicating. He's him and the only one of him that's for sure! Rare when you have a dude like this. Great singing voice, great playing, great writing. Consistant af and been doing it that way for like 40 years. That's not nothing! That's legend! Most musicians are one hit wonders or never was's.
9 years ago? I’m still here I just graduated law school first heard J. I’m recovered now 26 years of sheister shit? I’ve had my fill I don’t write court briefs any fucking more. Now I write songs
Agreed. Rare does a musician last this long. Usually their first album is their best and then they have trouble or sell out or start suckin lols. Not J though. Consistent af when it comes to blowing us away. It's been like 40 friggin years and he still kills it every time. And what's hilarious is he literally looks like the last person on earth that you would think is a guitar god but he is!
Really? Like, do they have a street named after him and all that? Had a key to the city given to him? Seriously, I don't know but it'd be cool if it was true!
Only J and his fans will understand that its completely acceptable to throw a fuzz pedal on an acoustic guitar in the middle of an otherwise acoustic song.
Haha I think you're talking about his rig rundown. He always keeps an overdrive on his "clean" sound so it doesn't sound plain. And hes right I've been using an overdrive to boost my clean sound and I can hear it better when the drums are going and it has more tone that gives your clean sound a punch but "clean"
yup thats the one...he probably has a few rig rundowns though. If I ever got to hang out with him all of my questions would be about pedals seeing as I build my own from scratch.
I don't see you I won't call you I don't know enough to stall you Is it me Or is it all you Guess it's on and on On a day maybe i'd show you But it's the least of all i go through But the thing is i don't know you And it's on and on Trembling words don't make my eyes close And if anyone then you'd know I can't find out 'cause you won't show And it's on and on Every dream is shot by daylight And i pray maybe that you're right But if you don't, maybe i might 'Cause it's on and on You're not gonna get me through this, are you You're not gonna get me through this, are you Anytime i'm there to show you If it takes too long i know You're out the door just leavin' me screwed And it's on and on Every dream is shot by daylight And i pray maybe that you're right But if you don't, maybe i might 'Cause it's on and on You're not gonna get me through this, are you You're not gonna get me through this, are you
Awww yeah this one takes me back .... and to hear that nice fuzz on the acoustic was like whoa ..... thought this was gonna be a straight acoustic jam like his acoustic album and then baammmmm
Damn! I can't just love 8 songs off of Where You Been. There's gotta be more DJ that I can really be pumped over. The man can play like a motherfucker.
Yeah J actually wrote a lot of the riffs for Witch and according to J he'd love to make another Witch album. A Witch riff that never got on their records actually ended up on a Dinosaur Jr record. That being "I Walk For Miles" live productions a bit muted though it sounds better live

@Zack Rizzo not sure what you are talking about as I stated a quote he said. Not saying I was playing the solos.
no fucking shot hahaha where did he say that
@@naksu444it's from one of his interviews with Spin
J needs to be on a box of shredded wheeties cereal
The box would be purple
bucket list #3
go skateboarding with J Mascis
I love how J's idea of acoustic is at times heavier than electric.
Most times
I've only heard this song a million times.. but when he hits that solo I start full-on sobbing. All I can think is, please don't let his solo end.

J. Mascis forever.
This is the Best Song in the World in all of history and this is by far the best rendition of it!

Made the whole fucking song though, huh?
Wow. I love J. I didn't know you could do that on an acoustic but, if anyone could, it'd be J.
0:34 2:16 I love the way he uses an effects pedal with an acoustic guitar.
His voice is shy and powerful pain. ❤️J!!
A true poet..always in my heart
wow and he is all about the music , the pride of Amherst, Mass.

J Mascis is a God!!!!!
There are guitar solos, and then there are J Mascis solos.
Well said, sir.
Not solos, Whoa-los
How effortless it makes it seem. Some people ha e to make a shred face and start sweating during solos j is like "ahhhhh finally the easy part" lol
up there with Neil and Nels Cline as far as rock guitar solos
And guitar isnt even his main instrument, atleast if you ask him
This is one of my favorite songs off this album. It really tugs at the heart.
That’s called greatness
J is soooo cool! Kick that distortion on that acoustic guitar! Yeah! 😜👌❤️❤️
#acoustagrunge
Distortion? That sounds like he's stacking 3 fuzzes 😂 so damn good
He is the best musician I have ever seen live. If you can watch the footage from Coachella of Dinosaur Jr. Its amazing
J(esus) Mascis
God I love his style.
This is the best video on RUclips. I've watched it 1838372727474848 times over the years
Shredding that acoustic better than a wood chipper
Magic guitar man

Thanks Tingly!
0:36 does this remind anyone of the pedal video where he says "and this is my clean sound"?
