I recently took a trip to Snowdonia in Wales in an attempt to reinvigorate my photography by shooting in a genre I’m unfamiliar with; Landscape Photography.
This video is a tutorial giving details of my shooting style, philosophy behind the shots, apps which I found helpful, as well as a selection of the resulting images at the close of the video.
It is also a video diary of my thoughts on the journey, specifically around needing to regularly challenge yourself in your photographic journey in order to keep growing.
I hope you enjoy.

Watching this once again after reading "the meaning in the making" - what a great perspective to have. I also have those days of feeling that I am in a rut and I need to get out and have a shutter therapy, or just nature and being alone with my creative self kind of therapy. The fact that I know now where you started and seeing where you are now, and following you for the last couple of years through this - makes me believe I can do the same. Makes me feel inspired. Thank you Sean
Ditto, I have seen this before but listening to " The meaning in the Making" for the 3rd or maybe 4th time, I had to watch again for context, even though it is 01H13...worth it and breaths life into what the book was expanding on.
Excuse my language, but God Fucking Dammit this is an amazing piece of art.
1. You're inspiring photographers to take risks.
2. You're vulnerable in your weakness and showing a desire to improve on a skill
3. You're reinvigorating your love for your craft.
3. You're exploring a gorgeous land that I've never specifically heard of.
4. You're informing on how to take landscape photos.
5. You're showing that experienced photographers get in a rut and need inspiration.
6. You're proving that just going out and shooting for yourself is key to staying inspired.
7. You're still in love with your craft.
8. You're taking gorgeous video on top of photos.
9. You're tastfully and stylistically editing together video with music to document and show off gorgeous compositions.
10. You're showing that sometimes we just have to sit and wait, which is basically impossible for an American entrepreneur.
I've found a new hero. Not only because you're good at what you do, but you're honest. And you've inspired me to be honest and put myself out there. Thank you, Sean.
Forever subscribed.
+Landon Ward thanks so much Landon, for such a thoughtful response. Much appreciated. You've made my day:)
Sir, you've made mine. I've felt that this content has been missing in the photo world and can now breathe easy. Thank you for inspiring us. Now please excuse me while I go watch all of your videos.
hey I onyl have one lens at the moment 50 mm and im going to iceland so im probably going to miss out on some great landscape shots do you have any suggestions or videos showing what you can do with a starter lens that would be so inspiring tried finding a video with someone who has a basic starter lens can do but cant seem to find it
He actually just uploaded a video on how to take a 50mm and create beautiful panoramas fit for landscapes.
As XenoLiving said, watch my recent video in Gozo. All those images were shot with a 50mm, and some of them were stitched for wider shots. Then watch my Landscape Editing video to learn how to stitch them together. Good luck.
What did I just stumbled upon purely accidentally. Brilliant...just brilliant. It's like watching a movie about the heart and soul of modern digital photography. It's like this video has been directed, produced, edited, mixed and the script written by a bunch of genius people. Just amazing.
Thank you so much for your time and effort.
+Wahab Dilawar that's very kind mate:)
Wahab Dilawar agree. I felt more inspired watching this channel by accident than Abstract on Netflix
i guess im randomly asking but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Lovely work, Sean - as always.
It just feels therapeutic watching and listening to someone on youtube who is not shouting. Thank you. Some youtubers could learn something from you.

Amazing how you took the time to do this and then shared it in order to inspire others. That's generosity..
Greetings from the future, Sean! As a Canadian living in the U.S. the word "awesome" gets over-used. I've taken, here, to using the word you brits use, "brilliant!" People here look at me askance. LOL So... BRILLIANT AND AWESOME! Your results were worth the effort that you put into it! Nice editing!
A couple of decades ago, for a few years I had gotten away from my love of photography and sold my equipment and bought a cheap, point n shoot Minolta APS film camera... busy with house n kids. After a divorce, I felt lost and decided to buy camera gear again... that step had saved my life. Although, many years ago, I taught photography and had a full colour darkroom, I'd forgotten what a "mind-saving" process just going out and shooting was! Fast forward to a few years ago and, again, because of a health issue, I couldn't even carry a DSLR around my neck, which was HORRIBLE because bird/nature photography was my thing and that meant a long, heavy lens. My health has improved but I've since learned how lovely it is just to walk about with a small "street" camera. In these present times of sociopolitical turmoil, the MINDFUL process of photography helps to keep us photographers sane... LITERALLY!
Thanks for the encouragement, bro! I'm now on Instagram because of people like you. Take care!
I have view a great deal of photographic tutorials on RUclips over the years ( I'm no spring chicken) and I would say that this is the most wholehearted seminar I've viewed, please keep it up I will be subscribing.
I've never seen such an inspiring video. Thank you.
Subscribed. EXACTLY the right attitude. Talent is easy, motivation takes constant effort. Keep it up.... I'll be watching. Cheers!
Catching up on your older videos is helping me to keep the flame going while locked down in Spain. Thank you for your insights.
Your experiences from your commitment to get out and shoot like this could be the focus of your podcast. Pure creativity.
Well done. You have that wonderful "poetic" ingredient in your personality which is inspiring. I think all pros would benefit from more poetry and less technology in their work.
Welcome to the landscape photographer's world, "you don't control light, you wait for light".
I find your contents much richer and deeper than other photography related youtube channels. I appreciate that you stress on the fact that photography is not just composing some beautiful looking frames.
Your video of the snow hitting the graveyard is fantastic.
I love that shot of video with the snow in slow motion!
I love how much you love learning, man. It's inspiring to see a professional like yourself constantly stretching yourself and improving your art. I feel like mastery doesn't exist in this form of art because of how much there is to learn and grow into. I'm addicted to your videos and, as a brand new photographer, your videos give me the hunger to form relationships and shoot and try and learn and fail and learn more.
I don't know what your talking about Sean... an exceeptional set of images that capture the majesty of the location and the spirituality one feels just being there.
One of the most humble and authentic photography teachers ever.
One of the best videos I've seen in a while!
Beautifully inspiring video! Thank you!
I’ve watched you for a while now and am always eager to hear your teaching, story telling and truth telling. Honesty, vulnerability risk taking, humility. You’re on a good path. Your interview with Pal2tech led me to your book which led me to this older video. It’s one of my all-time favorites. Good luck on the rest of your journey!
Book led me here too. Sean has quickly become one of my favorite artists for his philosophy and vulnerability about the creative process. Really really enjoying the book.
Im originally from Puerto Rico, currently in California USA. I wanted to thank you for your stellar content. A total search accident led me to your channel. I've read many comments and many before me have said in better words what I wish to say. Your content is one of the reasons we trudge for hours through total crap, so that we may find something worth our time. Mil gracias de corazon.
Thanks, many useful information and very pleasant to watch.
THANK YOU Sean for inspiring me and reminding me of the passion I still have for photography.
I've been living a rollercoaster of emotions for a while and the fact I have found you is the greatest relief I've had since then.
Watching this first video gave me a huge exhalation of motivation.
ive spent the past 19 years growing up in snowdonia and everyday it never fails to take my breath away
Love it! Some beautiful landscapes captured. Thank you.
I shoot products as well (for different reasons, of course), and I understand 100% what you mean.
I'm going through that right now, and this video has been extremely insightful breakdown of that problem, and what to do to try to solve it.
Thank you!
What a fabulous, informative and inspirational short film this is!
Creative minds are such a blessing in this world!
Thanks Sean for sharing this video, as photographers I agree is this not about pushing our boundaries and working outside of our comfort zone so we can broader our perspectives to become better photographers.
You tube suggested this video to me, glad I watched it, liked everything you said, I'm still at the early stages of shooting everything like you said and never want to lose that creativity and enjoyment of doing so, this video was a nice nudge to keep up the enjoyment I have with photography and to not let it become a daily chore, thank you
Beautiful and inspiring video sean!
Just wow. Sean, your vulnerability to the creative process is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey and helping me jump start my own.
+Jonathan S You're welcome. Best of luck.
Sean thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you. You really spoke to me.
Great work on this, love the drone footage.
I would agree with some other commenters that most of your final shots look a bit overcooked--particularly, the sharpening and colors feel excessive.
But I also think you should ignore comments like mine if that's the look you wanted and you enjoyed the process. We should all be following your advice and your example rather than criticizing you in RUclips comments.
Your motivations and your message are spot on. Thanks for this.
I immediately want to visit Snowdonia now! Beautiful pictures and a very inspiring film you made. Thank you very much for sharing.
Your videos always inspire me Sean. They are beautifully photographed and put together and your content is unmatched. May your journey continue on.
Amazing video, very inspiring! Your filming style is awesome too! You explained things perfectly and you really have a way with words when it comes to describing your quest in this video. I am absolutely subscribed... Thank you!
wow this video was so inspiring! Now I want to pursue photography more than ever!
Thanks Sean. Every cloud has a ray of sun just waiting for the right moment.
I just revisited this and so glad I did. I think you nailed the shots...arty and beautiful as everything you do.
I totally relate to this. Have been taking photographs for many years, but last September decided I needed a new challenge and now combine the photography with wild camping and a video blog. Totally excited about shooting again.
Just took a look at one of your videos. Good stuff. Keep going:)
This is like the most inspirational video I've ever watched to be honest
I love the way you give us an insight into your thought process when you take pictures and why you do it. It makes your videos amazingly inspirational as well as educational. 👍🏼😉
Thank you for sharing! Your cinematography is stunning. Can’t wait to see the results
Outstanding video. I am a Welshman living in Australia who has recently taken up photography. You have inspired me greatly. You remind me of Thomas Heaton (another youtuber), however you add a certain "human element" which I thoroughly enjoy. Looking forward to more of the same, as those shots you have produced are exceptional.
Wow Sean you cannot believe how you inspire us all! Thank you that although you said you are an introvert you give your knowledge to hundert of thousands of people! Amazing thank you for that! Forever subscribed
+Against the Grain thanks so much mate:)
This is great! Totally resonate with how you feel and agree with you on our need to challenge and push ourselves.
This is one of the best videos i've seen in ages. Not just for the photography aspect, but purely on life itself. I will certainly re-watch this one many times. Nice work, Sean.
+Dave Arkanoid Gilbert thanks Dave
Awesome video, loved it. Sick editting too.
Men, keep doing this please ! This is so motivating :O Thank you
I appreciate the thoughts. Also, very kind of you to discuss the weather apps. I learned a thing or two. Thanks
Wow! Stunning shots.
I don't know if this is much of a tutorial. I mean you have some tips and thoughts. But this is more inspirational and I really enjoyed it. I'm a landscape photographer and I feel like I have lost that joy to photograph. I need to do something like this to get that inspiration back.
This is the most Motivating, inspiring, and honest video i watched about this field till the moment
Thanks alot
+Muhammad Abushahba thanks mate.
even though I hear this pretty often, I must say that your way of expressing it is just...brilliant. Thank you!
Absolutely stunning! 💕
Hey Sean, great video! Just rewatched it after a year or so. I'm planning a trip to the British Isles and Snowdonia is one of the goals. That graveyard or church you visited, which one is that? I've set my eyes on St. Michael's just outside of Snowdonia, but that one you visited looked really nice and moody too (if it's not the same).
How i wish to see a collaboration of You, Thomas Heaton and Peter Mckinnon on a photography video.. you guys are truly inspirational :) .. Thank you so much for your work!
That would be fun:) Maybe one day. Who knows?
Thank you. Keep 'em coming!
A wonderful video. You got some beautiful shots. Thank you so much for sharing!
Jesus Christ! I was not expecting the amazingness of those shots!
“I’m no landscape photographer “! 😂😂😂
Who are you trying to fool?
One of the things that I like about this video is the contact with nature. For me landscaping means meditation, relaxation. There is no worries and time. Another reason that I liked the video is experimentation. You play it by ear. Sometimes you might get good or bad results, at the end you learn from your mistakes, but mainly the contact with mother nature. Enjoy the moment.
Mind blown. Incredible piece and simply magnificent photos.
great video, thanks for the information, now a question, which app you used to watch the sunrise and sunset? thank you
+Pevidex thanks. The app is called Sun Surveyor
+Sean Tucker tks :)
+Pevidex it's called Sun Surveyor
Thanks so much for this. Your openess and sharing made this video special. All the best!
Great sentiment to this adventure, sometimes we do need to rediscover photography and why we enjoy it so much! Thanks for sharing!
Very stimulating and encouraging! Thanks for this. Hope you do more!
Great video. I'm just starting doing this, almost four years after this video. Brilliant.
Love the shots you got. Amazing job!
A good story well told and some terrific shots. Thanks Sean.
Amazing, not only the wonderfull pictures that came out in the end, also the path you followed to upgrade yourself and inspiring people who have the same hobby or job arround photographing.
Just.......thank you for sharing your enthusiasm . Please keep making your videos they are magical
Beauty of simplicity and clarity in this video. I would dig every video from your trip out of safe zone and shoot along with your viewers.
Thank you for posting this! Everything you said about getting stale and needed to get out and doing something you are not completely comfortable with really hit home.
Gorgeous shots, Sean! Thanks for the video. Snowdonia is so breathtaking!
I was brought up on Snowdonia and recognise the location of every shot you took - all amazing and all great memories. Inspiring message too. Thanks
I love how your videos are very reflective and in particular how you very articulately relate your personal insights to the development of the art. As a true master educator, who comfortably takes on the role of learner as well, you then deftly move the the focus from yourself and then enable us, the apprentices (and masters as well) to take away the learnings and inspire us to practice. This is truly wonderful and inspirational viewing and a masterpiece in educating and training. Thank you Sean!
Wow, what an inspirational video. This is why we love photography.
I’m just starting to watch your films, loving what you do.
Very nice Sean, thanks for sharing, in summation - beautiful.
Damn. This was worth my time. If you ever fancy shooting street in Amsterdam, tulips in April, windmills or flat countryside, I'll set you up in the attic for a couple of days, drive you to the most photogenic spots and ask nothing in return. Except hanging around with my camera, learning from you and being inspired. This video was that good.
+Villi Asgeirsson that sounds like a great idea. Let's talk more:)
Found your Blog whilst I was browsing and glad I did, I love Landscape photography and spend loads off time under the Bridge you have shot In Snowdonia. Never thought about Stiching and Bracketing together, I usually do 1 or the other. Looking forward to giving it a Whirl next time I'm out. Thanks for the Idea, and great Tutorial. Tom
Truly stunning. Thank you so much for this!
Absolutely stunning photography! Very inspiring too.
This video is amazing. Thanks for sharing. And the images are breath taking.
I loved this video! I always learn so much more from just watching people busy at work in their art form, rather than structured tutorials. This film had a great pace and atmosphere, passively giving out practical tips while also inspiring photographers to just enjoy their art form. Great work, thank you.
I just found you 10 minutes ago and I am honestly in love with you and your work. From your photography to your film and editing. Superb work and thank you for being so inspiring.
Thank you for your beautiful, inspirational and informative library of videos.
Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing your personal journey complete with wonderful images.
Awesome video and thinking. And the pictures you made are just stunning. Thanks
Thank you, very inspiring. I like the way you calmly tell your story, its entertaining to follow your words as they have to tell something
Fantastic Sean great work I feel inspired.
Great Shots and great thoughts. Your videos always give you something to think about.
Inspirational video. Thank you Sean!
thank you for taking the time to make and share
