  • Hi! Its cold and there's a lot of snow on the ol' 72 Fury. Lets see if it will go. I bought this car about 5 years ago, and I've been using it as a daily driver since then. It shows about 75000 miles, so it should last me a while yet. I like these fuselage models, especially the 72 Fury. Its a mean looking old thing! I actually hit a moose with this car last week, and it didn't leave a mark on the car! No wonder the cops liked these things, they're incredibly tough, even if they are a bit hard to look at. Thanks for checking it out!

Two things I love: The squeaky sound of boots walking through REALLY cold snow, and the whine of an old Mopar starter.

Ah my old Fury! I still like to watch this again as I used to start it on the coldest days when it had sat at out for weeks. Cold War chap bought it from me and painted it blue, it was red. It was my mothers car and I was there when she bought it new at Turnbull Motors in 1973 in Edmonton Alberta. I took my high school prom date out in it. Lots of history. The old 318 still chugs along. It had under 60,000 miles on it when I sold it and likely not a lot more now. Thanks for fixing it up a bit and keeping her alive so long and sharing her with fans of old Mopars.

Boy that brings back memories! I remember buying one sitting in a pasture in Wyoming near Christmas 1988. It was sitting in dry rotted flat tires. I went out with the owner and we primed the carb and got it running. He put a mix of mud and snow truck tires on the back and some near bald radials on the front and I drove it home at the wopping price of $200 dollars. It had about 6 inches play in the steering and you had to pump the brakes several times before it would think to slow you to a stop, but it was mine and it was freedom.

Nov. 23, 2019: Running through the vast catalog and picking off the episodes I never marked with the thumbs up. As much as CWM on YT has been fun for Scott, those of us who have been along for the ride for the long haul have been treated to some great stuff, too.
It's gotten me through some serious crap in life over the years and there's not another channel out there like it. Good (frozen) people, great old cars and a camaraderie missing in a lot of folks' lives.
    Here's to another decade!

I had a '73 Fury III with a 400 engine in it. Surprisingly,. it got 20 MPG on the highway. My Dad's 318 only got 18!! That ole Fury III would really run...but at least once a week you'd have to blow all the soot out...otherwise it'd spit and sput when you tired to put your foot in the carburetor!!

back when I worked for Chrysler, some cars had ignition points, and then other cars had an optional electronic ignition which didn't work well the first year, because the starter turned the engine over too slow for the inductor or whatever it was called to pick up the signal.
we had two tractor-trailers full of these great big Chrysler's being dropped off that wouldn't start, and had to be pushed into the dealership

Ahhh, the muffled, throaty rumble at idle brings back sweet memories! Back in `78, I inherited Dad`s `73 Fury III Police Interceptor that he had purchased a couple of years before from the State Police auction.440, Pos.Traction, superior suspension and handling--- It was an amazing vehicle. While I only lost two `1/4-mile` drags, I NEVER lost drag races of `1/2-mile` or more ( hence the designation `Interceptor`). That car would be "nose-up" until @ 90mph, then the front-end would level out, then drop slightly.Although I never went over 110mph, there was plenty of pedal left. What a rush!

  • @huckster66
    @huckster66 11 лет назад

That is great! My father bought a new one in 1972. He however said it was the biggest "lemon" he ever owned. Got more milage behind the tow truck would stop as he drove it in highway. Never started in warm weather. He traded in for his first GM; a new 1977 Cutlass Supreme. A few weeks later he got a electrical recall notice from Chrysler.... Which he forwarded to Dealership. Ground wire from ballast resistor was the answer to all his starting issues.

Back then if it was a cold morning and you wanted to get it started and get the heck out of the driveway and on your way you'd better plan for a few struggles, multiple ignition key twists and lots of warm-up time while you clear all the snow off. I'm talking about winters well south of the Canadian border. So it's almost unbelievable how quickly the old tanks turn over in these vids. You must be maintaining these things better than the average car owner did when they were common on the road.

coldwarmotors I couldn’t agree with you more one the looks of the front end/grill & bumper. I owned 5 different ‘72 Fury’s that were all former Ohio State Highway Patrol units. They had the 440 with the 727 Torqueflites. Great cars to run around in. Then when the 73’s came out back then I just couldn’t warm up to the restyled front end. Someone must’ve been nursing a hangover when the designed that one! Good Day to You!

Most people just didn't know how to set the automatic choke on these cars. On my 1976 Plymouth Volare the instructions are printed on the top side of the sun visor. You press the gas pedal all the way to the floor then lift your foot all the way off and now the choke is set. Now turn the key and it fires right up and idles a little fast.Let it warm up a tad and tap the pedal just enough to let the carb off of the high choke cam. One mistake is to pump the gas right after it starts as this causes the choke to drop down from the higher choke cam.

The 1972 Plymouth Fury front ends looked very hideous! The 1973 Fury front end was an improvement and the 1974 Fury was the best looking for the 1970s of the Plymouths, especially the 1974 Fury and 1974 Dodge Monaco hardtop sport coupes like the Blues Brothers Blues Mobile with the 440 big block V8 4 barrel in all of them! Chevrolets looked the best and were the most reliable of the domestic cars. The Chevrolet Impala was the best looking car in 1972, especially the 2 doors: sport coupes, custom coupes, and the convertibles! I will take a 2 door Impala sport coupe or a convertible with a 454 V8 4 barrel and dual exhausts any day, thank you very much!

It's been a long time since I've seen your videos and I've noticed you have a new inventory of cars. My question is, do you still have this '72 Fury?

I hope you had synthetic oil in the oilpan, they are fluid in these low temperatures, ordinary mineral oil is like chewing gum in -26C. If you manage to start it with mineral oil in-26C, the engine may blow before the oil get fluid enough to flow.
Better use an engine block heater anyway.
    Cheers.

these babies mostly run on mineral oil since the synthetic oil was too expensive for the middle class worker who had to keep a tigh budget, as a nordic nation we became very good at getting our rides fit and ready for wathever winter may bring to us daily.

It's amazing! I love old cars like Oldsmobile, or Plymouth so much! And the sound is also amazing! Unfortunately I live in Europe, so I can not have any of them.... :-( :-(

Choke needs a bit of adjustment is all. I had an 86 caprice that even on the coldest days i would pump her three times and then start it right up. I do like fuel injection, but miss having a carburetor some times.

Reminds me of my first car when I was 14. The guy said I could have it if I took it away. Me and My brother pushed it home over gravel for about 1/2 mile.
