I absolutely LOVE this jacket up in northern Idaho... The hood... Just tuck in in top/brim and it's fine ... Easy peesy... Warmest synthetic I've found... Comfy and flexible... I wear it everywhere now... Like a puffy down but totally fine in rain & snow... I have a dozen high end jackets and this is my favorite by far...as to the cuffs? Personally I luv this new design... I feel it's an improvement... Different strokes for different folks
Awesome review and thank you for making it!! I am really considering this jacket instead of a lightweight down jacket. I've tried it on in store and really liked the fit, but i didn't try the hood. The absence of down feathers is quite exciting as I am in massive support of avoiding 'animal cruelty"(yes they use a responsible down standard but not using entirely is better). The stretch is a nice feature and to hear it is warmer than the Hi-Loft is something i find to be very surprising. Just made the decision making process that much more difficult!!
Hey Besim! If you're deciding between the two my recommendation would be the Atom AR. It's a more casual jacket that will perform better in moderate/above freezing temps. It's definitely a technical piece, but is also less cumbersome and less bulky than the Hyper Puff. Hope that helps!
I have just purchased! Im just worried about the size , In normal clothes I have an M size but Patagonia recommended me the S size because of their quiz and the size chart. what to you think about it? Im 1,79 and weight 60 kg. Thx for all!
I agree about the hood. The way it's shaped makes me look like a cone head. Also, the sleeves feel a tad bit too narrow for me when wearing a base layer and fleece mid layer underneath it. Bending my arms more than halfway feels like the elbows will tear. I own a large so I tried on the x large with just my soft shell on at the store and felt the sleeves about equally as narrow but with a boxier, longer fit in the torso. How do _you_ feel the sleeves?
Thanks for the comment/feedback! We thought the sleeves fit well and allowed for layering underneath. However, as mentioned in the video, we weren't big fans of the cuff design.
For sizing in the L size, how's the sleeve length & chest fit for someone 6', 34" waist, 42" chest 35" sleeve? Would fit be tight/loose/okay? Layerable underneath (or not necessary)? Does the yellow color get dirty easily?
These are excellent questions. The fit would be very appropriate. We wouldn't recommend sizing up or down. Large is going to be your best bet. Our user in the video has similar measurements to yours and thinks the fit is close to perfect. Lighter colors are always going to get dirty easier than darker ones.
Thanks. I just bought one in Navy from REI for under $200. Patagonia says it's been discontinued, but if I can get good use out of it for a few winters I'll be happy.
I'm 225, 6'2" and XL would normally be fine but I have an XXL...it's a bit bigger but It's perfect for layering... Often wear capilene air thermals and a down vest... In freezing weather and I'm comfy & toasty... Room to further layer if needed...for sub zero fun Again, with hood, just tuck in the brim... Then it's fine
@@palkersik there is a nice material known as "down" that breathes very well and has a broader temperature range than any synthetic. there is another excellent material known as "wool" that also has a very wide comfort range. i've tried many synthetic materials in my time and while i still do use some, none of them are close to natural materials when it comes to comfort in variable weather conditions.
Great question. We think that the Hyper Puff is slightly warmer than the Hi-Loft. Both will do well in sub freezing temps. Hope that helps and thanks for the comments!
How do the hood sizes compare? I'm worried the Hyper Puff hood will be too large when not wearing a helmet, but if it's the same size as the Hi-Loft then I can live with that.
We think that, without a helmet, the Hyper Puff won't be the best fitting hood for most people. In comparison the Hi-Loft has a hood designed for use without any equipment underneath. We feel the hood is better on the Hi-Loft, although we've noticed that it doesn't cover much of the forehead on some users.
Great question. The review above takes a close look at the 'Hyper Puff Hoody'. Here is a link to the 'Hyper Puff Parka'. www.backcountry.com/patagonia-hyper-puff-parka-mens?s=a It's a few ounces heavier and has a double slider on the zipper.
It's confusing, some sites say "Hyper Puff Hoody" while others mention "Hyper Puff Parka" (with bottom zipper) but the Parka version is not listed anywhere on Patagonia's site.
We agree, it's pretty confusing. Not sure if it's an exclusive release with certain websites or not. We'll keep you posted if we find out any more information on the discrepancy.
Basically your review covers what you could read on the tag, how you hate cuffs, and how you hate a over the helmet hood on your head without a helmet.. go to the fucking mountain and give us a review worthy of technical piece. You should label this review “how will you like his piece while walking from the car to your local hipster gastro pub”.
Very informative! Also I think I finally know what the heck a zipper garage is! I’m learning!!

Hey Dana would you consider wearing t to armwrestle and back to back rub with it on as I wear my red one
That yellow color looks great on you!
Great video! Super informative and thoughtful critique. You should review the Marmot Featherless Component Jacket next!
Thanks so much Conor! We’ll get right on that!
@@NYGearReview could it be used to armwrestle
I completely agree with the zipper double-way

@@NYGearReview I love the yellow one would you ever wear t to rub the back of it against the back of my black one
@@NYGearReview hey would you rub puffy jackets with me
Warmest synthetic out there
well your single sentence is more valuable than this 6 minute review
Thank you for the video. My husband loves it. He got it on ebay for almost half price.
Amazing!! That's the way to do it!
I tried this jacket in the store. The jacket feels very thick. The insulation felt really firm when compared to their down insulation.
Pretty thick/warm jacket for sure. Definitely not as light and soft as down, but will definitely offer some comfortable stretch and plushness.
What`s the height of the model and size of jacket? Thanks!
Height is 6'3" and size of Jacket is Large
Great review! Would you recommend this jacket over the Arc'teryx Atom AR for casual day to day use, say around 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit?
Hey Besim! If you're deciding between the two my recommendation would be the Atom AR. It's a more casual jacket that will perform better in moderate/above freezing temps. It's definitely a technical piece, but is also less cumbersome and less bulky than the Hyper Puff. Hope that helps!
Hyper puff way warmer than Atom... More flexible... Also a way more sustainable company if you care... I DO!
Nice review!
Thanks Clay!

Thx for all!
I think the small will likely be a great fit! But if not, you can always exchange for a larger size. Let us know how it goes.
I will for sure! Thx for all guys!

I’m 5’8 230 lbs. would you recommend XL for this?
Hey Scarlett, I'm not a sizing expert but I probably would recommend an XL for you. You can always return if it's not the right fit.

you will never find a good fit..maybe you could get it tailored?
can you tell what color version this is? Thanks!
I believe it's called Fluid Green!
is this good for skiing as the mid layer under the Goretex shell?
Great question. I think this layer will be too hot for activities like skiing. Definitely too thick to be a mid layer. Hope that helps!
Hey, Thanks for your reply. I have asked as I have Nano Air and it's not warm enough for me. Could you recommend something else?

Parka has 200g of insulation in the body, Hoody has 100g.
