Ford Superduty "no start" in park or won't go into park

- Does your vehicle not go into park? Does your vehicle not start in park? These two things on some older model Fords may be the issue that can remedy your situation. We start with the two bolts under the dash that fixes the majority of the problem with sloppy gear shift indicator in automatics. If that doesn't fix the problem we go under the vehicle and check the alignment of the neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission. The test vehicle in this video is a 2000 Ford F250 Superduty with 7.3 diesel and 4R100 Transmission.
Just fixed my truck 1999 f250 super duty, about 2 weeks ago after parking my truck on a slight incline, It jumped out of Park and started to roll! Just yesterday it would not start i park, I Looked it up on your channel and fixed it! Thank You!
@@larryhewitt1078 That's fantastic! I'm happy you were able to find your solution.
I forgot to add, I put lock tight Blue on both screw threads
I haven’t gone out to try these steps yet, but I wanted to tell you this is the best “fix something” video I have ever seen. You didn’t waste time with a long winded intro, the video angles were perfect and well lit and you were concise. If I have any other trouble with my F250, I will go to you first, and recommend you to everyone! Thanks!!!!
I appreciate the kind words Judy. Thanks for watching and hopefully the steps will fix your problem.
You’re the man! Thank you, I had seen the torque bolt issue and tried that a few months ago and nothing.
Yesterday, my truck popped out of gear and almost hit my neighbors truck, saw this vid and jumped under the truck and adjusted the neutral safety switch and boom fixed my issue.
Thank you so much!!!
I'm glad the information gave you some guidance. I'm even "gladder" that you didn't crash into your neighbor's truck. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you sir! Bolts under dash. Took 5 minutes to fix.
Glad it helped. Thanks for commenting.
This video helped me fix my daughter's truck and was a real life saver. One of the torx screws had actually fallen out and the other was really loose. The screw that had fallen out was miraculously caught up in the underside of the dash. I replaced it and tightened the other and the problem was solved. Thank you so much for the video.
Fantastic! I'm glad it helped. Thanks for letting me know. 🤘
Tightening the Torx bolts works perfectly! Been driving my 1999 F250 around for several months struggling with the issue of not going into park unless I really worked at it. Also had to always start in neutral and would not go into 1st gear. Used a #30 Torx (3/8" socket set) adapted down to 1/4" socket and 1/4" ratchet. Easy access to both Torx bolts when in neutral and no fancy flex adapter needed. Took less than 10 minutes. Thanks!
Happy that it worked for you. Isn't it great when you have a problem and it turns out to be an easy fix? 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting.
I found my bolt in the floorboard, I was thinking it’s a 2000 it’s just got some play . Ha I was wrong, van started rolling down a driveway at customers house 🤦🏻♂️
I had the same problem with my 2003 F250 Super Duty. After watching your video I tightened the set screws under the dash and all is right again. Never had to mess with the neutral safety switch but I'll check it and see how it lines up. Thanks brother!
My pleasure.
Same here!! Loose bolts underneath the dash - you saved me a service call on a late Friday afternoon! Thanks from SDE Design, Inc!
Happy to be of service and glad that it helped you. 😁👍
Bolts up the dash worked ive been driving around for a month with this problem fixed so easy
Glad you found your issue.
Thank you!
Not easy to get to but my 2000 E250 was missing one screw
😊
Works like a champ
Fantastic!
mine was the loose bracket cheers saved me a trip to the Mech
Fantastic!
@@shooshinejonnie if your ever in BC Canada i am buying you a beer
Fantastic video. Direct to the point and found my bolts loose under the dash! Was able to tighten them up and seems to be working fantastic! Used to have to be careful parking as truck tended to roll or go into reverse. Thank you very much!
Thank you. Happy that you were able to find it.
Thanks! Bolts under the dash solved my problem.
It’s a potential safety hazard too because a few times I have put it in park and the truck started to roll back.
Glad to have sorted it.
Thanks again boss
I'm glad you found the problem. It's not nice to have a problem, but if you have to have a problem it's nice to have one that doesn't cost anything to fix. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video thanks for going over both methods in one video!
My pleasure!
Thanks a lot Brother! I have been dealing with this for like a year till I see this vídeo
I'm glad that you were able to figure it out. 👍
Very well done video both from a production and content standpoint. Thank you.
My pleasure R.J.
Wow!! I was going to go to the mechanic this week this fix this
As I felt it was going to roll away and thought I needed a new brake pawl...I tightened those two bolts which were about to fall off actually and bamm!!!
Fantastic! I'm glad you were able to get it fixed. 👍
@@shooshinejonnie any tips on correcting some steering play? 2002 f250
@@hfedrums123 I replaced my steering gear box with a blue top. I think I tried to adjust it before I changed it, but it never got any better. I would say if you change your gearbox use thread locker for the bolt. Mine backed out and fell out. That was kind of scary driving down the road.
100% saved me this evening. Thanks for the great video.
I'm happy the information was of value and you were able to find the issue. 👍
You fixed my truck! Thank you.
I only showed you where to look and you fixed it. Awesome news !
Right on the money! Thank you.
I'm glad you found the information helpful. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks a million.
Awesome video thank you for posting
Thanks for the kind words.
@@shooshinejonnie I have this exact issue been steadily getting worse on my 2002 RWD Ford F250 SD with 7.3 turbo diesel pickup I'll have to jack it up to get under it so will get at this adjustments this week.
Thank you 🙏 so much for your help.
I'm glad you found it helpful and I appreciate your feedback.
Just saved me a butt load... Thanks from Concrete by Design L.L.C.
My pleasure. That's why it's here.
Thanks much -- good job !
Great video!!!

Thanks for the kind words Robin.
Thank you so much!!

Thank you
My pleasure.
Thanks !
You're welcome.
Thanks
My pleasure.
Guess I ran out of lock tight but I put 2 small tiny lock washers well see it that does it if not well it's easy enough to fix in the middle of know where I 5 min so not a big deal
You can tighten them without anything, but they will eventually work loose again. It's just a precaution to avoid future issues. I don't see any reason the lock washers wouldn't work. I'm glad you got it fixed.
I was wondering if you could look at the 22 second video I just uploaded? The torx bolts are attached to something that appears to be moving? In my video I had someone operating the shift lever but in your video you didn't. This isn't normal right?
Truck has 442,000 miles on the clock and runs like brand new otherwise.
99 7.3 turbo F250XL.
So I took a look. It's been so long since I've looked under there that I'm not exactly sure.
It is your shift lever. When you wiggle the shift lever it should be moving.
I would remove one screw at a time and put some blue thread locker on it and put it back in and call it good. If that doesn't fix the problem then that's not your issue.
I’m going to try this. I have a 1999 f250. No start. I want to see if this fix.
It's a good place to start.
I just pried mine off, 20 years and rust time for a new one anyway.
I'm glad you were able to get it fixed.
I just replaced the shifter rod and now my key cylinder won't turn all the way back to the off position. I lube the shifter cable because it wasn't going in park enough either. It now goes into park and starts but I wonder if I'm not fully into park? And that's what's not allowing my key cylinder to go all the way back? Any thoughts?
It's been a minute since I've done this but if I remember correctly a tooth difference on the transmission adjustment can make a huge difference. I would start there. 🤷♂️
@@shooshinejonnie Thanks do you mean adjustment on what was shown on this video ?
@@bobbauer2287 That is the one I was referring to. Have you already adjusted that? Outside of that, I'm not sure what to look for next.
@@shooshinejonnie ok yeah no I have not but I will give that a try and let you know. That's the neutral safety switch. Thanks Bob
Do you have to put in neutral then adjust switch
Yes. In order to see the markings that line up with each other it will need to be in neutral.
Question, have you removed both torx screws? I need to remove one to remove plate cause the second screw is broken. Was wondering if I'll be able to simply screw it back on without difficulty. One arm to the plate holds the Trans linkage and there's a second arm on left side but can't see what that hooks up to.
I have not removed both of them at the same time. Whenever I took one out to put thread locker on it. I took one out at a time. Obviously you'll have to take both of them out to get the plate off so you can get the broken one off. Unless you can get a hold of the screw with a pliers or something. Once it's loose you should be able to turn it out by hand.
@@shooshinejonnie thanks my friend
My e350 will not shift put of park. It will start but not shift out of park.
Does it feel stuck? You could check your brake release switch (not sure of exact name). I am currently having to really press my brake, not just touch it, to release the shift lever.
My 2000 svt lightning have had this issue every since I put a converter in it years ago. I've already tightened the bolts under the dash but haven't messed with the safety switch which I'm thinking is the problem. Did you have it in neutral when you moved the switch?
I believe I did have it in neutral, but it's been a minute since I've fixed the issue. 🤷♂️
Hopefully this will be a simple fix for you.
Any idea where that neutral safety switch on a 2004 F350 Super Duty might be? I can’t seem to find it on the transmission.
If it's not on the transmission I have no idea.
shooshinejonnie I read somewhere it’s in the trans pan on that year. But I just realized I think my starter may be toast so I’ll start there. Thanks for your help.
Wat is name of part the torx screws go into..mine one side of bracket broke
I'm not sure of the name of the specific part or the size of the bolt. I believe the torx size is t-30. Also not sure of the name of the bracket. You would have to look at a parts diagram and find the piece.
does this also relate to older fords? i have a 94 f150 that wont go into park
That I don't know. You could always check. I'm thinking the neutral safety switch on the transmission should be a fairly common design. May not be exact.
Wtf did you move?? I didn't see anything move to line up with that natural line
It's been so long since I've done this so I don't remember exactly. But if I remember correctly there are teeth on that gear. I only moved it a few notches.
My shifter just slides when I try to go into park and have to manually move the shifter cable underneath
That's not good. Unfortunately, I don't know what that is. Could it be a broken shifter tube?
What if mine is stuck in reverse
I would check everything that I said. Then I would check out the shifter tube or something in the column. I haven't had to deal with that yet so I'm not exactly sure.
shooshinejonnie alrighty will do thank you
My 2000 F350 does this regularly. Super POS! F a Ford!
Thank you so much!!!!
My pleasure Luke.
thanks
