  • The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) completes the first scheduled explosive event of Full Ship Shock Trials while underway in the Atlantic Ocean, June 18, 2021. The U.S. Navy conducts shock trials of new ship designs using live explosives to confirm that our warships can continue to meet demanding mission requirements under harsh conditions they might encounter in battle.

    The “brace for roll” isn’t for a wave we can see. It’s for the air bubble that forms deep under the water and collapses.

    Not many people know this but the US tried sinking one of its own carriers before to test it, and after 4 weeks of tests had to give up and scuttle it as they couldn't sink it. 4 weeks of missiles, bombs and torpedo's. That's insane.
    "The U.S. Navy knows this from experience. In 2005, the Navy itself targeted the decommissioned carrier America in order to determine just how much punishment the vessel could withstand before slipping beneath the waves.
    "The ship was pummeled by explosions both above and below the waterline," The War Zone reporter Tyler Rogoway explained in 2018. "After nearly four weeks of these activities, the carrier was scuttled. On May 14, 2005, the vessel's stern disappeared below the waterline and the ship began its voyage to the seafloor."
    "America stood up to four weeks of abuse and only succumbed to the sea after demolition teams scuttled the ship on purpose once and for all, it's clear that America was built to sustain heavy damage in combat and still stay afloat."

      @@Shishilan1122 it really is. However the water right doors,bilge pumps, etc are designed and work in conjunction is amazing. I mean after 4 weeks of hell you think there would be no ship left, but for it to not even sink is insane.

    • @ThatCarGuy
      @ThatCarGuy 3 года назад +6

      @@hootsmin Yes you are delusional. When people post facts and you blatantly troll, you just look bad. Please look to troll someone else or I will just block you. You actually think nations are going to use nuclear weapon on ships, when hypersonic missiles can not maneuver in their terminal phase, let alone risk starting nuclear war with another nation for using a nuclear weapon in their EEZ, territorial waters, etc. Nuclear weapons are used on stationary targets.
      Lets use a slower ballistic missile to even prove my point, say you are moving at mach 10, that's about 3.5km/s but lets round down to make math easier on me, so 3km/s. Say you wanted to maneuver a single degree at 3km/s for 5 seconds you would be off course 15km. Math is math.
      But because you are a troll and still wont believe it and will likely troll again in your next response, here is the Russian patent on ram/scram jet engines stating they can't maneuver as they have to shut their engines off, can lose stability and can even self destruct coming back down to it's target based on denser atmosphere.
      So like I said, troll someone else, you are out of your depth.
      "Russian patent number 2579409 relates to the field of rocket technology, and more specifically to hypersonic cruise missiles equipped with a hypersonic ramjet engine. The invention describes a method of application and device hypersonic cruise missile (CRPD), allowing to solve the problem of performing a combat mission to destroy ground and surface targets of such a missile. The described invention is designed to maximize the combat potential of the CMP with the scramjet.
      The design mode for the scramjet are high-altitude cruise conditions while maintaining the estimated cruise speed, and the need to reduce the altitude and flight speed creates difficult technical problems due to the fact that:
      an engine designed to perform a hypersonic mid-flight at high altitude is not able to continue to work at low-altitude trajectory sections associated with a decrease in the flight number M, hence, the rocket must approach the ground or surface target with an inactive engine;
      characteristics of sustainability and controllability of CRPD with inactive scramjet significantly deteriorate, loss of stability becomes possible;
      there is also a danger of destruction of the scramjet design due to the increase in pressure in the flow part of the engine while reducing the CMP from the march height before hitting the target."

    Wanna talk about a boondoggle and a floating dinosaur? That is the USS Gerald Ford! Man, that thing is a sitting duck and will be sunk in a New York second the moment it comes up against sophisticated Red Chinese or Russian hyper-sonic cruise missiles! Big carriers are the new battleships....totally outdated and vulnerable to attack and sinking.

      Hyper-sonic missiles are a threat, but I wouldn't be too worried. The U.S. has been playing around with hyper-sonic vehicles since the early 60's. We have more data on hyper-sonic flight characteristics than everyone else combined. We also have the only ships in the world capable of carrying and powering defense systems like lasers, which would be fast enough to follow and melt a hyper-sonic projectile with ease (they were originally developed for ICBMs and were theorized for fast moving dog-fighting aircraft in the late 2000's).
      Also, we have had a hyper-sonic missile, the AIM-54, since the 80s. Iran has been using them against their enemies using their old F-14 squadrons for something like 78 air-to-air kills.

      These types of comments always amuse me. So certain, so absolutely sure that America’s seeming “superior force” is just a paper tiger, because that’s all anyone else has by comparison.
      Good luck talking this shit when the next global war kicks off.

      I see you are another American imperialist and are drooling for the next war. You will be cinders my wisecracking friend if Russia unleashes her nukes on us! And Russia will ONLY do that if she is provoked. Like we provoked her into invading Ukraine. Boy, are you people dumb!@@OneBiasedOpinion

    To test how durable and impact resist test they must fire within direct hit with a torpedo,not from a distance.

      Buhahahaha. 👹👹👹Russia can send its rusted crap to one place only - right to the bottom of the ocean. They have no navy to speak of - mafias cannot build navys.
