    How could anyone paint over teak 😭. It’s the perfect complement and a throwback to wooden Chris Craft days. Simon, the transformation was stunning. A lot of painstaking work for sure. I hope the new owner was blown away!

      Haha right, I suppose every boater has their own style! It was a lot of sanding but the project was a blast from start to finish. The owner was very happy!

    At your age, to be a master at your craft, I can only imagine what 10 years of experience will do for you. Clearly boats are a passion for you, its nice to see young folks take pride in their work as you do. New subscriber off this video alone. Thanks for the detail and God speed

    Amazing video I have a 1973 43 foot Hatteras Yacht with lots of teak on it. You have inspired me to bring the teak back to it original look. I will start the process in about 30 days. Keep up the great work!

    pretty easy - prep, sand, first coat, clear coat done

      Correct! Looking back I would probably do 2 coats of sealer (clear)

    What did you use to clean up any Cetol that might have dropped on the deck matting? Just did mine but didn't use enough drop cloths.. Thanks

    • @topdockpro
      @topdockpro  2 года назад +1

      I didn’t run into this situation. I think you could try acetone.

    Love the video. I will be using the same sikkens natural finish Cetol marina varnish to refinish the teak on my sailboat. I have read that I should use a heat gun to scrape the old varnish off but I think I'll do the sanding route. After all my research tho I feel that maybe you should have used a cleaner And teak brightener on everything before applying the varnish. Do you think it may have come out even better had you done that?

    • @topdockpro
      @topdockpro  11 месяцев назад

      Definitely sand the teak down and remove the varnish. I would never suggest scraping it off to anyone. Cetol is not a varnish it’s a stain and sealer system. Varnish is completely different, better for salt water and hotter environments. Either way you wouldn’t use a teak cleaner and/or brightener. You apply to bare wood. The outcome we had was exactly what was expected

    Nice work. Sanding takes a lot of time. Had the person who painted sanded and removed the varnish prior to painting, it would have 10 times the work.

    • @topdockpro

      Thanks! It was a fun project but certainly a lot of time in the sanding

    Very nice job on the teak, who makes the adapter you are running on the dewalt to your vac? Looks much more solid than anything I am running.

      @johnhubbard3485 2 года назад

      ahhh, saw, you are running the filter, looking at that I think I can modify mine to go to the HEPA. Get dust in the water here and you are toast.

    Quick question. To clean the sanded teak prior to applying Sikkens product, you mention vacuuming, then wiping with water. Would wiping with mineral spirits work, too? My mild concern is trapping moisture under the Sikkens. Lots of moisture up here in the Pacific Northwest; the surfaces won't always dry as fast as other places.

    • @topdockpro
      @topdockpro  Год назад

      Yes, mineral spirits or acetone is a better option!

    Excellent walk-through as always; and appreciate you uploading! I'm currently looking at restoring my own teak on a '92 Grady. It does not have any paint - just old weathering. Do you still feel like using a 120 with the orbital is the way to go??
