    As much as I love traditional boating, these new boat designs are quite fascinating. I look forward to watching all of the races.

    If I am not mistaken, it's not less overall energy for the recumbent, it's less max power.

    I swim with cetasean... specifically humpback whales, and spinner dolphins. The dolphins have taught me how to optimize my energy emmulating their swimming techniques. The humpback in particular have command of movement, strength and grace. American Majic looks just like a humpback, down to the side fins. Biomemicery is the smart way, no need to reinvent, just memic what is a perfect design. If one was to see the grace of a humpback in the water, one would agree on the absolute perfection of design.

    I very like the slim design of Patriot. As a Swiss, I also like Alinghi's approach, which is quite different.

    No comment on the relatively large rudder stock above the hull or added windage (maybe?) of side by side helm/trimmer?
    Foils and sails will matter most I reckon. Hull is largely something to mount the other bits on :)

    • @sans3go342
      @sans3go342 2 месяца назад

      That large rudder stock is part of the rule - for camera mounts. They let the cat out of the bag early but, Patriot can get on foils in 6 knots of wind. The larger boats could be faster in a drag race, but patriot should be able to out accelerate them. also The weather in the fall will play a huge part, its supposed to be light wind and choppy water conditions.

    I can understand this kind of boat for the spectators, like SailGp. Most sailors will scratch their heads and ask where is the chain locker 😅.

      Well, they have done something different (make the boat way more aero dynamic than all of the rest) and have the sailing to make full use of it. The only thing I can see which might even things out is the kiwi foil.

    HORRENDOUS!!!
    Hello... here the "innovation" is to use inverted wings to create lift, but the fact that you need 4 men cranking handles and/or pedaling ruins the whole idea of a yacht.
    All systems should be powered by the force of the wind, effectively feeding the needs of the yacht’s hydraulic, electric, battery, and other systems.
    With this, the designers or organizers have made a serious mistake; they lacked common sense, the fundamentals of navigation (using the power of the wind, not human power), etc.
    I hope that next year there will be rational progress on this issue so that the competition is solely about sailors and not cyclists, with 50% of the crew dedicated to pedaling. Best regards!

    • @my_dear_friend_
      @my_dear_friend_ Месяц назад

      Human power has been used on sail boats forever and part of the crew was onboard to function as counterweight and/or to power the winches. Until recently, they winched with arm power, now they pedal with leg power. Legs are stronger. Certainly less traditional but makes more sense.

    • @cdkr0
      @cdkr0 Месяц назад

      @@my_dear_friend_ Correct, I know all that. That's why I consider this action of pedaling on a sailboat as nonsensical! Especially since it's clear that there are energy sources like wind, the relative movement of the sea, and solar energy, all of which could provide power to batteries that could move the entire system on board. I hope that in the coming years they will hire professional seafarers and not cyclists staring down, used like hamsters on a spinning wheel. Best regards!

    Win the Cup back and restore this race series to colossal keelboats with crew, sail work, close match strategy and tactics, and leave this trash all but forgotten. Super maxis are already vastly more impressive. The J class is vastly more impressive and it's nearly a century old. Why should AC suffer in some odd sailing backwater, like big Moths in ponds? Or shall AC end up in ice skates run by radio?
