Waste Management Garbage Trucks of San Diego - Part IV (The Curotto Cans)

Back when in November when I filmed 265380, I came up with a great idea to make a video that composed of just Waste Management and their various front loaders running curotto cans. In my past editions to the “Waste Management Garbage Trucks of San Diego” SAGA, I’ve always had a curottos featured somewhere in the videos, but never made it its own feature. With a couple of remaining clips from my second filming experience with 265380, I decided to start working on a project, that just showcased Waste Management’s curottos.
I kind of knew where I could find an abundance of curottos mainly in the unincorporated parts of San Diego County. It’s unfortunate that Waste Management of San Diego doesn’t run curottos in their contracted cities unlike in Riverside and Los Angeles County, but luckily I was fortunate enough to know where in the unincorporated parts there was an abundance of Waste Management customers so I can prey on the trucks when they came by.
To what I’ve observed in the past year, Waste Management is currently buying new trucks like crazy. Every day I see less and less of the old Mack MR’s and LE’s and more Autocar Amreps running commercial. As for residential, there are less and less front loaders out there with carry cans and curottos collecting and more and more new side loader amreps. In the areas that were once known for having an abundance of front loaders running carry cans and curottos, they’ve slowly have been replaced by the new amreps. So, I think of myself lucky that I could get this many on footage.
I hope Waste Management continues to buy and use curottos in the future. I think it’s the most innovative way of collection, of course that’s biased because I think curottos are the way to go if you want to go fully automated.
I was originally going to take March off because of the amount of stress I’m currently under between school, work, and training for a competition, but since St. Patrick’s Day only comes once a year, I decided to post a video that showcased not a little, but a lot of green.
I also wanted to share that unlike my other videos, I took a different approach in editing this video, an approach and a method that I’ve learned over time and have developed quite well and have used in many of my other videos, the “Jump Cut” method. Instead of transitioning between clips and letting the truck do its thing and exit like in many traditional videos. I simply just cut out the “noise” or unnecessary parts to develop a fluid natural transition. I had this video proofed by two of my friends in the end, and they said it’s fine, so I hope I don’t lose you all halfway through the video.
