    I found the movement mechanics in the game fascinating, although a part of me felt that it was wrong.
    How can a 3+2 movement be longer than a six!? 😆
    The difference between a charge and an assault adds so much to the game. I’m surprised that it isn’t used in other game systems.
    I’m looking forward to our next game.

    • @blkjet117

      I agree about the charge and assault making sense. I can accept that a unit might fail to make contact in a charge, but to fail the charge roll and the unit remains in place just seemed silly. The movement system includes the size of the base which is greater than a single stride across.

    I got to play a demo at NoVA Open this year and I was surprised on how intuitive the rules were. I think the brighter colors work better with the orcs as they're using leathers, furs and wood for their equipment. I definitely love the sculpts they did for this game.

    Great video Alex! I get your points about Contrast style paints. I never use them as a "one shot" now, the way they flow off the brush (the best thing about this type of paint I think) makes them a perfect quick base coat to just get colour on the model and a place to start from. I sometimes struggle starting a model (procrastination and colour choice paralysis), and this is huge getting me over that initial hurdle.

I even learned that pink is plebeian for magenta; it's always a good thing to expand one's vocabulary. I started my kids playing 40k 8th edition when it released. (They had previous experience with 2nd edition Warmachine and Hordes, but we wuit when they messed up 3rd, so there was a gap, and they were very young, so don't remember anyway). We didnt mske the switch to 9th or 10th. Still takes 3 hours for 3 turns of a 2000 point game because the ADHD kid swalears she loves it, but cant keep focused. We tried Mantic Firefight and she loved it and we played a smallish learning game in an hour. The alternating activations, I'm convinced, is what did it. So i was leaning towards wanting to try this out, but you just sold me on it. Especially since theyre reluctant to try Kings of War, this being a skirmish game it might be an easier sell. (And with Ganes Workshop not veing involved, we can afford to play more than one game!)

    Stumbled across this channel while searching for Warcrow videos. It's also the last video I've watched from this channel. Let me share why. For the review of a game this vide hasn't enough content about it's gameplay, mechanics and flaws. Instead there is way to much focus on painting the minis. But this is a review of a starter set and the target audience may not even want to paint. And even if so, there's countless videos on how to get started with miniature painting better than this. I'm in the hobby for over two decades and learned painting the hard way. There weren't even washes then. Black lining was done with inks. It's like the stone age of miniature painting (that makes me sound old, doesn't it...) Anyways, it's bad manners to insult people who don't "paint the right way". There's absolutely nothing wrong in using speedpaints. Especially for folks dropping into the hobby. Painting in layers with washes, sponging or stippling are advanced techniques and they raise the bar for newcomers. You may not like the look of it. Cool have it your way. But don't insult people and call them plebs for taking a way more manageable approach. I disagree with nearly anything said about speedpainting in this video. Those paints are versatile and allow for much more creative freedom than traditional acrylics. They can produce a various range of results from realistic to strange. Depending on how they are used. The comments in this video tell more about the lack of expirience on the reviewers side than anything else. This video could have been good if it was more focused on the actual game. And since it was sponsored I hope that such a slip won't happen again.

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  16 дней назад +1

      Hello B. First of I just want to say that you come across as quite rude. Ending your comment with “I hope this slip won’t happen again” in response to a video that is completely free, that you have no stake in whatsoever and that you could just have stopped watching is a weird way of introducing yourself. I’d recommend you to find a channel that better suits your needs instead of being upset with how this channel is run. If you would take some time and check out the previous years of content on the channel you would see that it is in fact a miniature painting channel. That probably explains your personal issues with the game. For gameplay videos it’s probably an idea to check out a channel that specifically does that type of content. Lastly. I’m sorry you feel attacked by my use of the word pleb. It is in my case irony. If you indeed did not grasp that then this channel is definitely not for you.

This confirms the amount of Lore and such i'd be missing out on if I hadn't 🤦 Also worth noting i'm not a mathy person either so i've avoided wargames largely, not because I can't, rally more because it immediately bores me.
    This, however seems far more player friendly, much like Infinity (player friendly, not easier. Important factor) I mean yes you roll dice, but even Infinity only uses a d20. It's slimline and less convoluted. I like that. Naturally the lore and minis are also top tier so definitely an all round good investment it seems. I really enjoyed your video despite your elitist painting attitude. :) There are many factors in the enjoyment of the a game experience, and painting is only one. Corvis Belle has a different approach to putting out products, and release schedules. I find that I don't really mind it. I will have time to read, build, paint, and play without being flooded with product. I dislike the GW business model. It is designed to be broken and they spend the life of that edition fixing the things people hate, only to out out a new edition that changes what rules are better, but there will be other parts that are now bad. I support taking more time, working harder on balance and not overwhelm the consumer. Incorporating narrative lore into scenarios is the cherry on top for me.

    My problem with Warcrow is that it has no visual teeth. The world has some good ideas, but the miniatures, the product of this franchise, aren't unique. There's no fantasy there beyond fantasy dudes, and the aesthetics explored are very well-trod. I don't know all the wargames out there, but Conquest is fairly recent and burst onto the scene with the absolute strangeness of the Spires, further expanded it with one of the best Undead Faction Concepts I've seen in years, and has recently dared to go to South/Southwest Asia with the Sorcerer Kings. Moonstone has that delightfully quirky appeal of faeries and goblins and other dark fantasy whimsy bopping about. This Quar's War takes a fairly bog-standard 20th-century war setting and makes it interesting by having it all be about these strange anteater-like people, the Quar, who look very different from us humans. Hell, Warmachine, as much of a dumpster fire that has been, has the iconic imagery of hulking robots clashing with muscular behemoths! Warcrow ain't got nothing.

      Agreed, i like Infinity just cause its very recognizable and unique. A cohesive model lineup with separation between factions but still seem to be a part of the same universe. I had some high expectations for warcrow but it just feel like a warcraft ripoff. Technically great looking models but as you said, its got nothing to make it stand out.

      @52Miniatures There is no term yet, aside from calling it by the company that invented the method of casting. CB use their own material blend for production using the siocast method (TAGs for infinity and Warcow entirely are produced like this). The difference between siocast and regular plastic is that sio can't be glued using plastic glue ( plastic cement) and it is more rubbery, thus you can't sand it as effectively, sometimes needing to cut the moldlines

    In my opinion: Don't play this, just play infinity instead. There's some controversy a while ago around warcrow, what with a warcor representative that basically argued that colorblind issue isn't one even tho colorblind people have legit an issue with the game. Was so bad that the warcor was arguing that someone bringing the issue up on behalf of colourblind people they knew didn't qualify and went so far as to say someone is lying, (over an objective statement that's verifiable...). The person also felt so smug saying warcrow didn't have an issue because they remembered that the cards have a letter for the colour of the dice, as if that'd help a colourblind person tell the difference of the COLOURED dice... It was something really eye opening about how some people affiliated with CB were not on the communities side, even tho a warcor's whole point of existance is to be a BRIDGE between CB and the community.
    This person claimed to have worked on multiple things alongside CB, including marketing, and were going to be on a livestream with them shortly after. When someone reached out to corvus belli about the person it was met with silence, not even a generic response.
    It's weird because the two games are by the same people but I feel like it's completely two different teams, infinity is polished, does right by its customers and fixes issues. Support has been great. Missing parts get replaced and the process is really good. But with warcrow it's kind of been whack.
    Like I love CB but this shit is a mess, from illegible text due to background in boxes in the online pdf, to obnoxious usage of rules that seem to take inspiration from the worst aspects of the hobby, to making a game that's colorblind unfriendly when 1 in 12 men are colourblind. Men being a major target audience which I don't think I need to tell anyone. To proprietary bs.
    The interest has also been lackluster from what I've seen, warcrow reddit has 600 users to infinity's 19k, for refference new games subreddits usually get five to ten times that.
    I love you 52 miniatures, and I loved that you got sponsored but this is something I absolutely will speak out for. For my 1 in 12 men out there who are colourblind and get ignored by certain devs in a day and age when that stuff is an expected industry standard. I got you.
    Infinity is just a better investment of time and money, and the community is incredible. Like the second nicest one, next to LOTR. In my experience at least.

      Hey 👋 I’m sorry to hear it. It also sounds like one person said the wrong things and that’s not right but it’s also not quite the basis for not playing a game. I hadn’t thought about the colour blind thing, and I’ll have to check all the cards again! The dice obviously have symbols on them but it would still be tricky right? I forget what colours usually mix up for colour blind. Red and green?

    • @nameisbad
      @nameisbad 28 дней назад

      @@52Miniatures yeah red and green is what you'd think from red and green colourblindness but it's also usually some other colours on top, it also varies between people for example some also have some issues with orange, telling issue between orange and yellow or orange and red.
      The blues, indigos and purples as well my green/red cb friend has issue with.
      Magenta completely messes with him.
      What happens is that all the colours look the same to someone. So an example is sometimes I'd hand a miniature to my close friend and be like what do you think of that green cape? and he'd comment he likes it and then I'd point out that it's actually red and we have a good laugh about it.
      Problem isn't that it's just one person, the issue is that they are a warcor (a program you can google by corvus belli) that works with them and when made aware of the issue they chose to ignore it fully, zero reply etc.
      My friend who is colourblind said there is little to distinguish easily the dice and that is in fact an incredible issue. They put the letter on the cards for which color dice to use so as to help colourblind people, not understanding that if someone can't tell the colours of the dice apart then it's a useless gesture.
      Anyone wanting to learn more about colourblindness can go on the colourblindawareness website.

      the simple solution to this all would've been not to used colored dice and just stick to d6 or d20 system.
      There is a lot more to consider in the wargame and i''ll be real it's a shitshow.
      Where infinity is a ton of depth made accessible and streamlined.
      Warcrow is the literal embodiment of "more is less".

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  27 дней назад

      @@nameisbad I agree that the experience you describe regarding the colour blindness enquiry does not seem well handled. I'll ask them myself if I get the chance. But I think calling the entire project a shitshow is maybe a bit harsh. I mean, I'm not saying it because they sponsored the video, only that I painted some of the minis and played a couple of games and I enjoyed it as one usually enjoys that kind of stuff.

    • @nameisbad
      @nameisbad 27 дней назад

      @@52Miniatures Oh, I know you're a person of integrity, so no need to mention the sponsorship-I can tell you are acting in good faith. To be fair, almost every Swede I've met has been exceptional in character.
      That said, your experience is based on just a few sessions with Warcrow Adventures, I'm talking about Warcrow the wargame. I don't see things in black and white, so when I use the term "shitshow," I mean it, and I know I'm not the only one who feels it is.
      There are several issues: lack of quality control on the PDF for the wargame version, a lack of consideration for the target audience, and a Warcor who is essentially a detached representative but has worked with Corvus Belli and appeared on their streams causing a rift with some communities within the fanbase. The use of proprietary dice shows a lack of market research, as this trend hasn't been popular for almost half a decade, usually being the negative brought up by whichever games do end up doing well with them (I can think of only that star wars game tbh, oh and kill teams ruler. Both seens as cons to the games). Additionally, releasing a game with unit cards packed with information-even though they use symbols and other methods to maximize space-is counterproductive when the current wargame audience favors being able to quickly read and recognize a unit card. The industry trend of streamlining is being ignored in an attempt to seem interesting but it's really just depth for the sake of it, contrasting to infinity's actual depth and inticracy. Kickstarter fatigue.
      The list goes on, so respectfully, I do think the term "shitshow" is somewhat valid here.
      For reference, I'm a huge Corvus Belli fan and had great faith in them creating something special. But it feels like this follows a design philosophy that's so alien to what some fans wanted, almost doubling down on things that fans had issues with in Infinity. If ever there was a time to ditch Kickstarter-exclusive content, it would be now, after years of fans expressing their dislike for it.
      I really could go on, but I don't want to bombard you with an essay. If you do contact corvus belli, please tell them to actually have a proper look at what colorblindness is because it's clear they are working on some misunderstanding of how it works.
      I'm hoping my community gives warcrow another go in 2nd editon if they get rid of colored and proprietary dice, but if not, well it's a dead game already here which is hilarious since it used to be the game we were most excited for. Thankfully the market is over saturated with other games.
      But it is sad that such short sightedness on their part has led to such a letdown. I'm glad you like it tho, everyone has their own situation and perspective.
      PS: If you are up for video ideas; I'd love to one day see your take on doing a kitbash, like a proper make your own miniature kitbash rather than a shield or headswap you know? something over the top and fun or something that interests you a lot could be cool. If you are really up for something potentially out of your comfort zone, make the base a diorama and have internal LED's in the model (or both model and base. Or both). Could be fun.
