Latto album was fire overall with a few misses. Ice spice is no comparison for Latto. Doja cat is artist who can rap. They flow in different lane and Doja more pop.

She's very lyrical on a lot of the songs on that album.
You can tell she likes that boom bap 1990's sound with good lyricism.
this is why you don't understand the conversation - its an argument of the genre vs not - Doja has many talents but they are not in the same categories. Its the same issue people have with drake - talent vs fame - skill vs production.

I get the frustration because people make this same mistake when bringing up Jamie Foxx or Childish Gambino.
Don't confuse Renaissance men with the craft and niche itself. Just like Doja there all amazing artists, but they are not taken seriously in the genre, whether it being R&B or Rap.
There still generational talent thats amazing while they dip there feet in many art forms but there not the talent of the genre.
Doja's competitors would be Taylor swift and Ariana Grande if she even cared enough to be great.

When an artist makes a major effort to prove yo I get busy lyrically, we can’t keep turning around and saying but you not a rapper. And the wildest shit to me is we sat here and listen to doja go ape shit lyrically on multiple songs and then listen to latto and think latto can bar her up. I didn’t hear knot one thing that made me say yea latto is on a higher tier. So I disagree.

I know they're comparing rappers in the mainstream, but when it comes to the women of Hip Hop, my top 3 is Rapsody, Little Simz, and Sa-Roc. Honorable mentions to Che Noir and Noname.

Alot of people like the kids bop version of numerous songs that doesn't make them talented or competitors - regardless there is a market and consumer demand that will be filled one way or another.
This debate only occurs when people conflate them as one in the same.
To me Ice Spice is in a subgenre a little above parody and that normie rifting and as a subculture its gaining momentum.
Its singing , dancing or artistry people know they can achieve with a few weeks of practice and resonates as a journey and something fun to reflect on. Its not so much she is a talent as look its my cousin , uncle , brother , sister or me doing my thing and were having fun with the vibe.
Every street , group , family , school got that catchy idiom which displays in a word , song , phrase , dance or glare. Ice spice is the capture of that , hell Tyla water is a perfect example of that.
Current social media is perfect for spreading things as well.
Sadly its not alot of substance which would be okay but then there placed in rooms with real artist and fans get confused and so do they. And when they attempt to cross that divide it gets messy.
Most fumble the bag in the attempt but its always possible they learn on there feet and crossover or just be happy and fizzle out being one or two hit wonders.

Latto had a couple of good joints on that album, but one thing I dislike about Latto is she tries hard to be negative and say things that are ultra explicit. But you can say that about alot of rappers but it doesn't come off as genuine with Latto.
