The maniple is worn at Mass, after prayers at the foot of the altar. In the Vatican, the use of the crosier is restricted to cardinals and bishops during major solemnities, such as ordinations.
These preparations take place in a special room in the main sacristy of St. Peter's Basilica, in whose Chair Altar the Mass was sung by His Excellency Czeslaw Kozon, bishop of Copenhagen. The Mass was in the context of the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage, which brings hundreds of Catholics from the ancient rite apostolates to Rome.
