I have one question on roman catholicism. In the old testament God says to jews that men should have long beard so they are distinguished from women so shouldnt catholic priests also have beards?

As to not having a beard: it shows purity, it distinguished priests from working men and soldiers, and it prevents the priest for making the blood of Christ dirty with his mustache. Also, it was the fashion in Rome, but some priests and especially monks have beards.

@@silvanussum5188 not gonna happen. The orthodox church did a bad job evangelizing my country puerto rico. There are only 2 orthodox churches in the whole island for a total of 78 towns. I never heard about them until a couple months ago. Right now there are 2 catholics churches on each town and plenty of protestant churches yet only two orthodox churches for the whole country. I also believe that catholicism and orthodoxy are one true church separated by pride. I also prefer my mass in spanish and in US, the only way to get my mass in spanish is through the catholic church.

The Orthodox atmosphere in the Church is much more raw. People move naturally, they fidget more, their gestures are not synthetic. It looks more alive, closer to the original. Also the acapella chanting, without instruments, create the impression of ad-hoc gathering and worship, which again, translates into a more natural vibe to it.

Of course he was writing about the Pre-Vatican 2 Mass which by modern standards is more ornate but he was comparing it to the East where ceremonies are more complex. Nonetheless, regardless of which Mass is celebrated, the liturgist recalls that noble simplicity is the hallmark. Sadly many people forget the word noble and think simplicity is an excuse for lifeless, undecorous liturgy.

The constant crossing for example, gives of, to me, an ingenuine atmosphere: it's like rhythm in trance. Must it not be sincere, instead of a repetitive habit? With each crossing we shall remember the pain of Christ and not move our hands like we're just performing. Have you ever been in a Gothic church, within central Europe? It is amazingly full of awe. I am Eastern Catholic - Syro Malabar Catholic Church - setup by St Thomas the Apostle in India. Our liturgy is similar to Orthodox, yet we are in full communion with Rome.
@Lj Lj I have. Those are west Syriac based, which is not Aramaic (East Syriac). West Syriac is a later addition. There is virtually no Roman influence in liturgy, except in Ernakulam area with forward facing mass following 2nd Vatican council, where all Catholic rites, including Latin rite, were encouraged to have forward facing to include community and community participation to be in line with Catholicity principle (Make disciples of all nation). Syro malabar rite has no semblance with Latin Roman rite mass. Syro malankara is west Syriac rite under Catholic Church.

I research all religion, and practice Christianity. I must admit coming from a Roman Catholic background, the liturgical practices of Orthodox Church is very beautiful. It's very interesting to see.
I'm aware although as roman catholics we can only recieve the eucharist in certain rites because Orthodoxy only always people to recieve the eucharist whom are in "full" unity. Obviouslt there are only two legitmate and true churches. The latin rites and Orthodox rites everything else is invalid
I do agree our church (the Roman catholic church) has more of a relationship with the Divine because we are in communion with Peter. I disagree however that our sister churches (orthodoxy) is heretic they aren't. They never commited any sacreligious acts. As regards the schism both sides made mistakes Francis said so himself. Protestants? God help them they've gone so far away from the truth
Not to mention that we Roman Catholics also have the Byzantine Rite in full communion with us, we even have the Coptic and Armenian Rites in full communion with the Coptic and Armenian Catholic Churches.
I am Syro Malankara Catholic from India. Our church here, dates back to 52 AD when St Thomas came here....my church came into communion with the Catholic church in 1930💖😇✝️. Our liturgy is very similar to the Orthodox...😃☦️

To be Orthodox is to be Christian. There is no Christianity outside of orthodoxy. There is only one truth. Not 2 or 10 or 1000. Christ is not divided. We call them christian out of spiritual economia but the truth is there is no Christianity outside of orthodoxy.

We are supposed to live our as Christ did and people will want to be like you. That is the main reason. The Church might be joined, but it’s not going to be under one supreme bishop. I visualize it like pre-schism, 5 churches leaders bishops of Alexandria, Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople and Rome. When there are doctrinal disagreements they have to have a church council and be led by the Holy Spirit and decide in a Democratic manner
“One supreme bishop” is one of the largest reasons for the schism in the first place. The western rites are changed liturgy. Until Rome excepts the East and denounces it’s teachings and changed worship and doctrine that unity won’t be there.
I love the Orthodox too but they do not allow Catholics or evangelicals to take communion until they go through full conversion to the orthodox church.
I just talked with my priest about the Orthodox Church. He told me that not all of the Orthodox Churches get along and won't allow someone from a different Orthodox Church take communion in their Orthodox Church. Smh. The Church is suppose to be universal, not broken.

We have a god of love and he descended from heaven and left his throne and his divinity to show us the real way to live and gave his life for us in function to forgive our sins. This god gave us different promises for example the eternal life in heaven, but at the same time he gave us a way to be in touch with him carnally, the eucharist. he delegated a group of persons (apostles) and conceded the authority to forgive the sins of the people in name of him and other things. If a perfect god exists he has to give a warranty that we are in the correct way to heaven and the revelation remains untouchable through a institution called church. Well, I have something to say about your comment, but unfortunately I can't write back to you. 😭 Here is what I want to say: Just a few days ago, I rediscovered Eastern Orthodoxy, learnt some things about the faith, and most importantly, I learnt to recite the Jesus Prayer and to do proper Sign of the Cross. (I wasn't brought up Christian, my family is a mix of non devotee Buddhist and Atheism). I asked and prayed to Jesus to show me signs/message/visions or anything that God can reach me to really double-confirm that the Eastern Orthodoxy is the True Church and that it teaches the true Gospel. The 1st sign I received was that I watched the Holy Fire in The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. I was amazed, as I have never heard of this miracle before. There is a video of a bearded man, holding the Holy Fire under his beard, arms etc. and talked to the person beside him while the Holy Fire was quite steady. It did not burn him. (Regarding the Phosphorus claim, I would suggest people to try that fire for themselves). Secondly, while reciting the Jesus prayer 2 nights ago, I suddenly have a vision of the Gates of Heaven. 2 huge golden beautifully craved gate, with an angel with long white robe on the left blowing trumpet. (I hear no sounds). The Gate of Heavens is surrounded by bright light blue sky, and massive clouds. I was amazed. Once you have a small taste of Heaven, you never want to leave it. Thirdly, here I come across this comment... Whether you guys believe it or not, is up to you to decide and judge. But I speak what happened to me.
I reasoned with myself that Protestanism (Reformation) emerged from Catholicism, as the Roman Catholic is and always corrupted and filled with evil. The Orthodox Church feels to me something Holy, something like liquid gold pouring into my soul, and blissfulness. Of course, every Church denominations each claim that they are the True Church, but this is of human's nature. I myself will have to see for myself which one truly is the real one, and also to ask God for help.

I have one question on roman catholicism. In the old testament God says to jews that men should have long beard so they are distinguished from women so shouldnt catholic priests also have beards?

I never heard about them until a couple months ago. Right now there are 2 catholics churches on each town and plenty of protestant churches yet only two orthodox churches for the whole country. I also believe that catholicism and orthodoxy are one true church separated by pride. I also prefer my mass in spanish and in US, the only way to get my mass in spanish is through the catholic church.

The Orthodox atmosphere in the Church is much more raw. People move naturally, they fidget more, their gestures are not synthetic. It looks more alive, closer to the original. Also the acapella chanting, without instruments, create the impression of ad-hoc gathering and worship, which again, translates into a more natural vibe to it.

I'm Serbian Orthodox, educated in Catholic boarding schools. I still feel completely at home in a Catholic mass, have attended Protestant services too, and am especially fond of Russian and Ukrainian church music. Their choral singing is as close to divine as we can get on Earth.

Thank you. Adrian Fortescue wrote a century ago that “noble simplicity” is the hallmark of the Roman Rite. Of course he was writing about the Pre-Vatican 2 Mass which by modern standards is more ornate but he was comparing it to the East where ceremonies are more complex. Nonetheless, regardless of which Mass is celebrated, the liturgist recalls that noble simplicity is the hallmark. Sadly many people forget the word noble and think simplicity is an excuse for lifeless, undecorous liturgy.

The constant crossing for example, gives of, to me, an ingenuine atmosphere: it's like rhythm in trance. Must it not be sincere, instead of a repetitive habit? With each crossing we shall remember the pain of Christ and not move our hands like we're just performing.
Have you ever been in a Gothic church, within central Europe? It is amazingly full of awe. It is not with all these distracting icons, but instead gets you in contemplative state of mind.

@Lj Lj I have. Those are west Syriac based, which is not Aramaic (East Syriac). West Syriac is a later addition. There is virtually no Roman influence in liturgy, except in Ernakulam area with forward facing mass following 2nd Vatican council, where all Catholic rites, including Latin rite, were encouraged to have forward facing to include community and community participation to be in line with Catholicity principle (Make disciples of all nation). Syro malabar rite has no semblance with Latin Roman rite mass. Syro malankara is west Syriac rite under Catholic Church.

I'm aware although as roman catholics we can only recieve the eucharist in certain rites because Orthodoxy only always people to recieve the eucharist whom are in "full" unity. Obviouslt there are only two legitmate and true churches. The latin rites and Orthodox rites everything else is invalid
I do agree our church (the Roman catholic church) has more of a relationship with the Divine because we are in communion with Peter. I disagree however that our sister churches (orthodoxy) is heretic they aren't. They never commited any sacreligious acts. As regards the schism both sides made mistakes Francis said so himself. I am Syro Malankara Catholic from India. Our church here, dates back to 52 AD when St Thomas came here....my church came into communion with the Catholic church in 1930💖😇✝️. Our liturgy is very similar to the Orthodox...😃☦️

To be Orthodox is to be Christian. There is no Christianity outside of orthodoxy. There is only one truth. Not 2 or 10 or 1000. Christ is not divided. We call them christian out of spiritual economia but the truth is there is no Christianity outside of orthodoxy.

We are supposed to live our as Christ did and people will want to be like you. That is the main reason. The Church might be joined, but it’s not going to be under one supreme bishop. I visualize it like pre-schism, 5 churches leaders bishops of Alexandria, Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople and Rome. When there are doctrinal disagreements they have to have a church council and be led by the Holy Spirit and decide in a Democratic manner
“One supreme bishop” is one of the largest reasons for the schism in the first place. The western rites are changed liturgy. Until Rome excepts the East and denounces it’s teachings and changed worship and doctrine that unity won’t be there.
I am touched by the pure beauty and dedication of the Orthodox Church, I wish there was a local Parish near my area.
I love the Orthodox too but they do not allow Catholics or evangelicals to take communion until they go through full conversion to the orthodox church.

We have a god of love and he descended from heaven and left his throne and his divinity to show us the real way to live and gave his life for us in function to forgive our sins. This god gave us different promises for example the eternal life in heaven, but at the same time he gave us a way to be in touch with him carnally, the eucharist. he delegated a group of persons (apostles) and conceded the authority to forgive the sins of the people in name of him and other things. He left a unique church and he promised that the holy spirit will lead the church which contains the truth and assist the church for preserve the truth untouchable trhough the time. If a perfect god exists he has to give a warranty that we are in the correct way to heaven and the revelation remains untouchable through a institution called church. So we are not adoring the same god in differents forms and religions, we are adoring the real god in his unique religion.

I'm happy I'm a christian, i can't even imagine to have a god who command me to hate other people. My god only commands me to love and respect no matter friend or enemy. Our Lord Jesus he even forgave the people who crucified him. The biggest blessing to our religion is to learn forgiveness, as we want our father to forgive our sins.
Forgiveness is for personal enemies not Muslims or Catholics they are ENEMIES OF GOD.

I once had a conversation with an Anglican Bishop that told me, "The Orthodox Church literally has the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven." You aren't forced to join but rather your heart has to feel the gently push of the Holy Spirit to become an Orthodox Christian in the true sense.
Well, I have something to say about your comment, but unfortunately I can't write back to you. 😭 Here is what I want to say:
Just a few days ago, I rediscovered Eastern Orthodoxy, learnt some things about the faith, and most importantly, I learnt to recite the Jesus Prayer and to do proper Sign of the Cross. (I wasn't brought up Christian, my family is a mix of non devotee Buddhist and Atheism). I asked and prayed to Jesus to show me signs/message/visions or anything that God can reach me to really double-confirm that the Eastern Orthodoxy is the True Church and that it teaches the true Gospel.
The 1st sign I received was that I watched the Holy Fire in The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. I was amazed, as I have never heard of this miracle before. There is a video of a bearded man, holding the Holy Fire under his beard, arms etc. and talked to the person beside him while the Holy Fire was quite steady. It did not burn him. (Regarding the Phosphorus claim, I would suggest people to try that fire for themselves).
Secondly, while reciting the Jesus prayer 2 nights ago, I suddenly have a vision of the Gates of Heaven. 2 huge golden beautifully craved gate, with an angel with long white robe on the left blowing trumpet. (I hear no sounds). The Gate of Heavens is surrounded by bright light blue sky, and massive clouds. I was amazed. Once you have a small taste of Heaven, you never want to leave it.
Thirdly, here I come across this comment...
Whether you guys believe it or not, is up to you to decide and judge. But I speak what happened to me.
I reasoned with myself that Protestanism (Reformation) emerged from Catholicism, as the Roman Catholic is and always corrupted and filled with evil. The Orthodox Church feels to me something Holy, something like liquid gold pouring into my soul, and blissfulness. Of course, every Church denominations each claim that they are the True Church, but this is of human's nature. I myself will have to see for myself which one truly is the real one, and also to ask God for help.
I did not pray to the Lord for any visions of Heaven, hence this a sign from Lord that the Eastern Orthodox is the true Church.

The blessing and connection to Father, Son and Holly Spirit that comes through Orthodoxy is indescribably huge..there is no words.. it is the One absolute blessing, it is the true Christianity. and Salvation. It is the eye, heart and soul opening, it is the ultimate protection from evil, it is the ultimate GIFT from dear God to us humans.
Once you decide to convert to orthodoxy, remember many temptations and uncomfortable events will follow you. Do not be afraid.
