This was one of my favorite "What a Cartoon" shorts as a kid! This was also one that was actually produced by an outside studio instead of at Hanna-Barbera (in this case, this short was made in Italy!)

Omg. As soon as I saw this video come up in my search results for what a cartoon, I instantly recognized the cat and was flooded with memories of how the cartoon went exactly. I really loved this little short and it mesmerized me as a kid. It's been forever since I've last saw it. ♡
The ultimate irony? That pinprick would have self-healed by the time he got to his front door! lol
Rewatching this as an adult allows me to see the analogy that they were going for when criticizing certain health systems. It now makes sense that the doctor has a Hitler stache and gets mad when he sees the hammer and sickle.
In other words. Universal healthcare is communism.

This scared the heck out of me back then.
Fun fact: this short from Italy was directed by acclaimed cartoonist Bruno Bozzetto, famous for cartoons such as “Mister Rossi” and “Mr. Hiccup.”
Damn this brings back memories... totally forgot about jof and this was from cartoon networks best era. What a cartoon, original adult swim w space ghost coast 2 coast from the mid 90s around 1995, I am weasel, cow and chicken... all those shows originated on what a cartoon like Dexters lab too I think... the little red devil w the big butt from I am Weasel was funny too. I used to stay up late on Friday nights watching what a cartoon and the original boomerang too during elementary school in the 90s.

Indeed. And they're both from European origin. The difference is that this cartoon is from Italy, while "Oggy and the Cockroaches" is French.

Man, I love this cartoon. I really have a thing for shorts without much dialogue. The plot is so dependent on the visuals that the animation is usually of such high quality.

Jof couldve been a good series. Wonder why this didnt go further. Courage gave us a dog protagonist. Those three tribal chanting minons wouldve made a perfect running gag or ultimate big bad antagonists.
animation is way too good imo. networks execs probably found the thing fun but considered it'd be too expensive to produce a full series of this quality.
Jof didn't make the cut 'cause the creator is italian and he wasn't against the idea of the methods used to mass produce a series in the american fashion. Btw if you like style you should check Bozzetto's work in general

Honestly, this short and the Mr. Otto shorts were the reason why I looked into and loved the animations of Bruno Bozzetto in the first place. And the guy who composed the music (Roberto Frattini who also voiced Jof) as well, considering they both worked together.
Who else felt it when jof pricked his finger this was my dad's favorite cartoon that he used to watch with me I love you and miss you daddy

Thank you very much for sharing the better resolution version of this cartoon (not HD, but still much much better). Remember this very well. Oh man, it was the time when cartoon network just launched in India. I think I was hooked onto Power zone (it was 3 to 5 in the evening). Then Scooby doo, the Mask, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. So many memories. I could go on:). Thanks for the share. I have always loved the minimalistic atmosphere of this cartoon.

That part where the doctor catches the cat in his arms and in a snap tries to chop off his finger traumatized me as a child, probably the piano.
And the moral of this story, kids, is don't be a hypochondriac crybaby and waste doctors' time unless you really need to!
I wouldn't go to THAT hospital even if I was critically injured.
