There are many marches. Often they link to nation's historical events. The particular march is about the Finnish volunteers, who went to Germany to receive military training in order to fight for Finland's independence, if necessary. The lyrics/poem was written by one of the volunteers and the march was composed by Finland's national composer, Jean Sibelius, in the same year when Finland became independent. The march E.g. starts the annual independence day reception at the Presidential Palace. Here are videos about the historical era and those volunteers: "The Road to Independence - Finland in WW1 I THE GREAT WAR Special", "The Finnish Jägers In World War 1 I THE GREAT WAR On The Road", "Jääkärit väreissä, Lockstedt 1916" and "Finnentag 2015 in Hohenlockstedt".
This song has a special history. The words are a poem written by a Finnish soldier while in military training in Germany in 1917, when Finland was still part of the Russian Empire. He was one of those that had illegally joined a unit that considered a war of freedom against Russia as the only road to Finnish independence. Later in WW2 these men formed an important part of the Finnish army as officers. The composer of this song is Jean Sibelius.
The word "jääkäri" comes from the German term "jaeger" (like to famous strong alcoholic drink Jaegermeister), which means a hunter. In military, and especially in Finnish and German armies, that is the basic rank of a trained soldier. Or in some cases, some special forces use this word too such as "laskuvarjojääkäri" which means a paratrooper, you know, those soldiers who jump with parachutes from an airplane. This is the military song dedicated to all "jääkäri" soldiers.
This song can bring a tear to every finns eyes. After being oppressed, under 2 empires, civil wars, and ww2 we stood our ground. LONG LIVE FINLAND🇫🇮❤️
Love from Finland 🇫🇮❤️
Thank you so much 🙏🏻❤️

Actually it is about the Jaeger batallion 27 that trained in Germany before Finland was independent, written by one of them.
So beautiful
"To the shore of rising Finland" would be better translation. It is Finland that is rising in the song, not its shores.
Love, You watced like that
