Funny that this is the second Jazzmaster with 3 pickups in less than a year (the other being the Spark-o-matic), and that they only gave the Strat two pickups. 😂
To stop the 3rd bridge string ring (from the tailpiece to the bridge) you may have to shove a piece of foam, or a sponge under the strings, or one of those fret wrap things.

Just as a side note… that mute you showed isn’t used to stop string buzz however you are correct about putting a piece of foam behind the bridge to get rid of the ringing. Also these terms don’t “lock” in the traditional sense. When you engage the lock it just makes sure that the string tension stays the same if you break a string. Pretty ingenious little design Leo came up with.

Sweet . A JM with three P90s. Can't wait to hear you go through the different positions and combinations. The pao ferro fret board looks good with the finish on the jazz master. You make a jazz master with a satin finish you could call it the satin doll. Complete with cream toned plastics. Hearing the JM I can see how it would be an awesome player guitar. A real work horse with a variety of tones. Unless you intend on using that area behind the bridge I'd say a good thick piece of felt could mute that area. Man I thought you was going to play Focus ' Hocus Pocus.

The middle and neck p-90 is a golden tone that players search many a guitar store to find.
I didn’t really care for the Bridge middle and the bridge p-90 basically sounds like a bridge p-90 the pick up is not bad by itself certainly usable but honestly if I were to buy one of these it would pretty much only be for that M+N tone and for a MiM guitar with no case it’s priced about $250 more than it’s worth in my opinion. Considering other guitars in that price range that offer a bit more in versatility and appointment this guitar just doesn’t seem like a good buy for the money my however there are jazzmaster lovers that might find this series of guitars great and that’s all good, we all like what we like. I do know what my next mod project is going to be and that is a triple p-90 guitar because I do like that tone I just don’t like it for almost $1200 bucks.

Cool guitar in terms of it's a Jazz with p90's But Legitimate Worries about the adjustomatic bridge with a vibrato bar: Why would fender choose this? This will be impossible to keep in tune after vibrato use and/or it will destroy strings at the saddle with bar use. It's like pulling a taught rope over a knife blade with the goal that it doesn't cut the rope but knowing that it eventually will. Plus the radius probably doesn't even match the fretboard. Then if you want to put a Mastery or even a Fender Mustang bridge on, it's not just a drop in modification, you'd have to rip out the bushings and pound dowling then redrill for thimbles. Maybe you can get a roller Tom bridge to drop on the posts but again the radius will be an all gibson 12 or 14 inches not 9.5 like the Jazzmaster neck (the E strings will be flying way high off the board with no way to adjust). Just a foolish decision by Fender.

@@johnnyola2205 I remember those. They had a TeleSonic with Dearmond Dynasonics at the same time. I really think the Stratosonic was what originally put the idea in my head of building a p90 mahogany Strat. The StratO and Tele Sonic both didn’t stick around long.

thats so... odd. Like its cool, but the single pick up seems odd. and I also want to hear what the chat (and troglys) favorite type (meaning like style [I.E. sg or flying v] or brand of guitar.
Keep up the good work, trogly!

Single pickup should have been called the Noventa Esquire, since that’s actually what it is (single cut, 1 bridge pickup).

Just route out those rails in the body and you can do whatever you want to it.

This and the strats just have that plastic sound from the enormous pick guards ringing next to the pickups. Its cool but the tone should seem thicker. I love it of course.

@@Peter-ff1tp there is a reason direct mount pickups are a thing. after 40 years of playing nearly everything, this is my conclusion. There is no reason to even have wood here in a strat or this jm. In fact, i would wager that particle board would sound better, if you could even tell at all. Pickups mounted to plastic, plastic all under strings…. there is literally zero body tonewood sound. Which means good pickups are 100% essential. Maple fretboard helps, but rosewood etc and cheap pickups really make it stand out in a bad way. FYI i grew up on strats, but i now only play guitars that are direct mount. I guess i’ve just rode that horse too many times, and these pickups just don’t make the cut.

happy you liked the fender “b90’s” (that’s what they used to call them i believe!). I had a Jaguar with these pickups and i absolutely hated the sound….. i thought they were so thin and tinny. middle on the jazzmaster did sound good though!

That is a great sounding guitar. I would have picked the same color.....and probably would have been a little disappointed with the lack of grain showing through. That would have been my only disappointment. Nice demo.

I actually like the sounds this jigger makes....I must say I do enjoy a P90 and these do not disappoint. Lots of hum but that's a p90 for ya. A noise gate should be inline on your pedal anyway so that'll put that fire out

  • @IL2TXGunslinger
    @IL2TXGunslinger 3 года назад

Want to know why it’s so noisy? Because the p-90’s aren’t shielded properly. There should be an extra solder tack on the shield to the brass plate on the bottom. Not as if you couldn’t do it yourself. It would be a lot easier if they’d used the vintage style wire instead of the more modern type. On P-90’s you can’t just rely on the cavity shielding….

I'd like to see you review and demo an American Performer Jazzmaster just because they have the Strat style tremolo in them (and a satin metallic finish on two models).
