- Let's go shopping or shall I say "thrifting" at the “Scrap Exchange” in Durham NC! Follow me around the scrap exchange and see this pinterest DIY heaven! It's so much fun to go hunting! You never know what you are going to find in second hand stores. The Scrap Exchange is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and community through reuse.
Since 1991, we have been collecting materials from local businesses and residents and distributing these reclaimed resources to educators, artists, makers, and students through a variety of programs.
The organization is an economic engine for entrepreneurial activity built around materials reuse and waste-recovery. It creates green jobs and workforce development opportunities through a range of community partnerships.
Our creative reuse arts center contains a retail store, an art gallery, a Design Center to host classes, a Make N Take classroom for open studio art-making, and much more.
If you are an artist or educator …
You will continue to visit our current location for our famous blue barrel section, Make N Take room and Design Center. PLUS, we are adding an expanded selection of bulk by-the-pound materials to spark you and your students’ creative imaginations. Future plans for this space also include artist studios, maker spaces and an artist marketplace. In addition, the Cameron Gallery will also remain in this space, providing year-round opportunities for reuse artists to share their work with the community.

Our new store, Scrap Thrift, will quickly become your #1 destination for incredible bargains on a huge selection of clothing, shoes accessories, housewares, fabric & craft supplies and more. Located adjacent to our current location with 18,000 square feet of newly renovated space, finding affordable treasures will be easier than ever before. And unlike other thrift stores, all proceeds are funneled back into our programs supporting our mission to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and community through reuse. If you care about the arts, education and the health of our planet, you can feel good about every purchase or donation you make.
In addition, our new donation drop-off location will make donating your gently-used items more convenient and efficient. We’ve added a covered entrance and curb-side assistance to get you back on your way sooner. But we hope you’ll stay and visit one of our stores, take a class or explore the rest of the Reuse Arts District as it grows!

yes this place was awesome! they had a craft room you could pay $5.00 for an hour and a half of time to use unlimited supplies to make art. It was being occupied by a class field trip at the time. I'm definitely taking Hannah back to make some recycled art. Thanks for watching. Wait until you see the thrift store version that was next door! so many cool antiques! One of my favorite places to visit when in town. It is a wonderful place for supplies. Plus I have found a aqua McCoy pot for $2 and a small stained glass window for $25. I enjoy your channel and look forward to trying some of the stores you have featured previously. (P. S. Go Duke! 😜)

That is a very interesting store. I guess the closest thing we have to that is the ReStore by Habitat for Humanity.
Yes it was awesome! you could also pay by the bucket load for crafting supplies in the blue barrels which was cool. They had $5 and $10 buckets you could fill. They also had a huge crafting room you could use for birthday parties, and school field trips. You can pay $5.00 for 1.5 hours of time and use unlimited craft supplies to make art! Great entertainment for the kids! I'm taking Hannah back soon. The thrift store version of this store was even better!
