      Megan Fox is not really that hot IMO. She is average at best, you see hundreds like her every day and pass them by completely flaccid. Put them in a hollywood movie and all of a sudden they get quickly pedestalised. Michael Bay's movies were the same whether she was involved or not. Like when he replaced her for someone hotter and nobody cared or noticed.

I mean, we can sit here all day and argue about how hollywood sexualizes everyone too much (they totally do btw), but ask yourself this; if they didn’t, would Megan even have a career?

And then once she was established as even having ONE role like that (her most memorable to most) Hollywood didn't want her doing anything else. It's so hard for women to not only establish themselves in the film industry, but to be able to have an evolution in the type of roles they have. She was typecast, she didn't have a choice. Men will never understand it. Go look at some interviews with Megan Fox, and see how she was objectified in interviews. Interviewers asking her to do a strip tease, or telling her how much they’d like to have sex with her, or making jokes about how dumb she is. It was relentless, and men at the time were acting like a fucking animal in heat, and not only disregarded her feelings, they actively disrespected and hated her while simultaneously wanting to fuck her, because they knew they didn’t have a chance.
      I’ve had very attractive friends, and I don’t think you realize how much it fucks with your head. People adore you to your face, everyone wants to befriend you, but then men are always trying to manipulate you and get in your pants, and women start rumours and backstab you. You have trust issues. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my friend today shaved off her hair and covered her body in tattoos. Once in a while, she’ll get an angry message on Facebook that she “used to be hot” and that “she ruined her body”. As if her body only ever existed to be some man’s fuck toy.

    Your commentary is so interesting - I hadn't even considered the angle of: she gets her victims because she's not seen as a threat. I do disagree with your angle on Needy and Jennifer's friendship; I think it goes a lot deeper than jealousy. I think there's also possessiveness and co-dependency there, a very very complex exploration of female bonds. I've adored Megan Fox and Jennifer's Body from the beginning and watching people dismiss her so hard then was really, really frustrating. There is some redemption now but it still feels bitter sweet that suddenly everyone's a retroactive advocate.

      @@toadtongue YASSSS. They were in love in a very toxic, abusive, codependent way, though. But unlike those YA Wattpad Romance Fanfics like After and 50 Shades of Grey, theirs can potentially be fixed because (except for the supernatural elements) it is realistic and the toxicity was never romanticized.
      Instead of romanticizing a toxic codependent relationship, the film showed how it can ruin friendships and the people surrounding them. How everything could have gone differently if Jennifer and Needy just confessed their feelings for each other and not repress it by sleeping around (Jennifer) and getting a boyfriend you don't love that much (Needy) to convince themselves that they are not lesbigay for each other. To prove to their egos that they never enjoyed their boyfriend-girlfriend game... when in fact they always do.
      Imagine if they got together and turned their relationship to a healthy one before Low Shoulder went to their town. Jenn wouldn't have the desire to hookup with Nikolai because she's content with Needy. They wouldn't be at the bar in the first place. Then Jennifer wouldn't have been sacrificed and Needy wouldn't need to kill her. They would've graduate high school. They would have gone to community college at least and made their way into the world.

    Megan Fox (Jennifer) and Amanda Seyfried (Needy) have both said this is their favorite movie of their respective filmographies.
    To prepare for her role as a possessed living-dead teenager, Megan Fox lost around 15 lbs, bringing her weight down to a near-frail 97 lbs, and stayed out of the sun.
    The title is from the song "Jennifer's Body" by Courtney Love's band Hole.
    Hershey's chocolate syrup was used for Jennifer's 'black vomit' scene along with the use of CGI-animation.
    Colin invites Jennifer to "Rocky Horror at the Bijou," a reference to a student-run movie theater at the University of Iowa. Diablo Cody graduated from the University of Iowa.
    Anita Lesnicky's nickname of Needy comes from writer Diablo Cody's initial intention to have the character be of a 'needy' disposition. She later decided against this as she felt she had seen enough nerdy stereotypes in high school set movies.

    I actually feel kind of bad for Fox's character. She was kinda bitchy and self- involved sure, but before she was killed she wasn't exactly evil. She was kidnapped and murdered by a group of men, and forced to become a flesh eating succubus to stay alive. Honestly, it's kinda tragic what happened to her and I'm glad Needy got revenge in the end. I just wish we got a moment to show us that Needy understands what Jennifer has become is no longer the 'real' Jennifer, and that her actual best friend died that night with the band. It would add a little more depth and sympathy regarding their friendship. I do wonder why Jennifer herself didn't think about getting revenge, though. Would she have seen it more as a 'gift' since she dug her abilities later on?

    • @megimihaylova98
      @megimihaylova98 4 года назад +18

      YES I agree with you
      this is my opinion, but I don't think that revenge was on her mind. She was a victim of circumstance. She was what teenage girls were expected and portrayed to be- vapid, shallow, beautiful, and empty. After she revives, she is seen just satiating her hunger since that's all she can think about. She is mourning her loss of youth/beauty/life especially seen in that scene where she rubs foundation on her face. She didn't get to that stage where she wanted to go after them, she was focusing on survival.
      I'm not sure about her abilities being seen as a "gift" since she's seen heartbroken not knowing what's happening after her transition to then at the end of the movie she sees that this has ruined her relationship with Needy. Her friendship and the romantic plotline also play into this. Needy idolized Jennifer's beauty, status, and their bond. I believe that Jennifer was in love with Needy but it all was toxic and codependent. Jennifer does go through all of the stages of grief ending in her acceptance that the only way to survive is to eat men (she can also eat/feast or whatever word you would use on women, but men were the ones that objectified her and sacrificed her).
      Not only did the men ruin her beauty (the societal currency that made her feel valuable and seen) but Needy stabs her in the boob in the end, thereby scarring her and lowering her "perfect" beauty too. Needy supported her through everything, so she's almost surprised that Needy would harm her like that since she complimented her beauty in the beginning. When Needy says her heart (when she replies to J saying her boob), you can see how that toxic relationship is over, not only did Needy hurt her body but she also severed their bond. She's definitely scarred and will have this memory and trauma for her whole life, but she is freer now without her.
      wow I couldn't stop typing lol this is one of my favorite movies so I hope you understand this is just my enthusiasm showing haha

      It has the same template as Abby and Ginger Snaps and Carrie (the first one), but I think it's ahead of its time in a sense that during the decade (2000-2010) it was released there was no US/Canadian horro-comedy film (with female empowerment undertones) that was made that is about the complexities and power play of toxic, abusive, codependent female friendship between two closeted bisexual best friends who are secretly in love with each other, with a script written by a bi-curious woman (Diablo Cody) and one of the leads played by a bisexual woman (Megan Fox).
      Most queer love story at that time were in Rom-Com form (Imagine Me & You, 2005) and Drama form (Brokeback Mountain, 2005), and erotic form that sometimes border on softcore porn. 😅

    It was after a long night of partying, when I used to party.

    It was literally the best horror movie I had ever seen, the scares were fuckign scary, the jokes were hilarious, and the smart witted comments were so profound and insightful to me.

    From the first time I saw this movie I thought it was good and holy shit they are so right in describing how they wanted to market it. Feel so bad for what we all let them do to Megan Fox. It seems pretty much no one stood by her when everything happened between her and Michael Bay. Talk about an actress being treated as nothing more than a sex symbol and everything acting like it was fine

  • @TannerHartgrove
    @TannerHartgrove 4 года назад +59

    Love this review and the critical discussion about the film’s marketing massacre. Unfortunately Megan Fox was a victim of what really amounts to a mass, marketing-induced misperception, being stifled as an artist that would only serve as the medium through which to sell sex to the misguided audience. This unfortunate circumstance is only compounded by the fact that she’s apparently by all accounts an extremely genuine, sincere and hardworking professional who has SO much more talent as an actress than what the suits upstairs would have had us believe. I completely agree that this film is criminally underrated, and I certainly believe that, if marketed honestly and released today, this film would receive a much more appropriate and accurate reception in regards to the many things it gets right. This is a perfect example also of the short sighted and often dated perspectives of the business side of the film industry; this is simply one more film that suffered under the almighty thumb of the big wigs while the creative forces behind its inception and creation were shushed, effectively crippling their ability to properly promote and nurture their creation.
    Well, my ramblings aside, cheers to you Chris for telling it like it is, and here’s hoping that Megan Fox receives the praise she quite rightfully deserves.

    I think it's also deeper than Jennifer just being "self obsessed". She's only been valued because of her youth and beauty. When she doesn't have that anymore (the part where she's in front of the mirror smearing makeup on), she is lost and desperately trying to get back to where she felt valued.

    Honestly, I can’t praise this movie enough and it is what sold me on my love of Megan Fox because it showed how talented she really is. Is she Oscar worthy? I can’t say because Hollywood did her a massive disservice and focused solely on her sex appeal. They never gave her a real chance and that kills me.
