    Note that you may need to pry up the small tabs on the end of the plug connector to get it off. requires a small flat head, but be careful not to break them.

    Nice vid. Gives a good idea of what to do.
    I tried to get a way with a ratchet but need to buy a breaker bar as it was just too much torque and really awkward to get to with the 3.0 litre.
    3.0 - get the first sensor and leave it, then use the space to get the second out before installing a new 1st.
    Might have to move the engine cover and cabin filter box too.
    Maybe I should let it warm up a little.

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  8 лет назад +2

      +Stevie Ha thanks Stevie. A failing O2 sensor will eventually throw a fault code and 'service engine light'. However, an original sensor with high miles can cause degraded performance over time such as poor fuel economy- but not throw a fault code. I will get to the rear O2's when needed!

    I have a 2003 E39 530i. The positions of the oxygen sensors on my car is roughly the same but I think because of the different sized engine they are positioned very awkwardly. The front one would not allow easy positioning of the socket and ratchet and the rear sensor while you can see it, it's almost impossible to get your hand or any tools in there.

    Thanks for the vid! Breaker bar is good for removal, but you should recommend a torque wrench (or at least a normal short handled ratchet) for tightening. Especially using a breaker bar, it would be very easy to overtorque and strip that aluminum block! Could be an expensive mistake... Correct torque is "O2 sensors: 37 ft-lb (50 Nm)" per several forum websites.

      Hey Eric! Great question. You'll notice at 1:51 the new O2 sensor has anti-seize on the threads. The new Bosch sensors come with a dab of anti-seize on the threads, ready for you to install. You do not need to buy any additional product if you use the Bosch units. I am not sure if other brands also arrive like that.

    You mentioning only one link to the oxygen sensor, do I need one or two of these?
    Thanks

    • @hjd5973
      @hjd5973 6 лет назад

      I found out myself. For other ppl: There are 2 types of sensors, which differs. The two sensors BEFORE the cat are the same and the two sensor AFTER the cat are the same. Before and after cat are different sensors, they are not changeable.
      The pré-cat sensors are mostly defining the fuel mixture, they are the first sensor you would replace by problems or ascending consumption. The post-cat sensors are less important, and normally only replaced when an error light pops up.
      For European BMW-owners: Don't point too much on the ECS website for this subject, the part numbers from USA M54's are not the same as the European M54's in this case

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  5 лет назад +1

      It is possible, but the lean codes you're seeing are more likely the result of an intake leak. Check the upper and lower intake boots for cracks. The CCV system can also cause those codes, so can a cracked valve cover or leaking valve cover gasket. The best way to diagnose this correctly is to pay a local independent BMW specialist shop about 1 hour labor to smoke test the intake system and find the true source of the leak. Otherwise it is near impossible to find... unless you get lucky and see visible cracks or tears in your rubber intake boots. Good luck!

    Hey i need your help, i have a 325i 2001 bmw e46. I took it to autozone and hooked up it to the code scanner , and my car misfires cylinder 1, 2 ,3,4, &6 , i also got the code "O2 heater circuit bank 1 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 1.I bought new coils and swapped em, my car still shakes and misfires. What do i do?

    • @cwb253
      @cwb253 7 лет назад +1

      Ryan de la cruz
      You definitely have a vacuum leak , most likely oil leaks are causing the misfires , had 10 people who told me I was wrong ! just recently had similar issues : problem solved , I also had a bad disa valve , ccv hoses cracked which is where the vac leak was coming from . Vanos was leaking as well , o ring needed replacement , you need to do a leak down smoke test , that will help a lot to source that vac leak

    • @elmerfudge1891
      @elmerfudge1891 7 лет назад

      cwb253 if it was one bank - then try a new sensor but if sensors going at the same time could mean a dodgy MAF sensor or air leak/CCV.

      Hey Daniel, thanks for the question. Yes the two sensors are the same. If you have a code for one, you can just change one. But I'd recommend just changing out both at the same time, they are relatively inexpensive especially if you are DIY'ing this one. Should bump the fuel economy a little bit as well. Thanks!

    smoke is coming from my o2 sensor should I replace and will this solve the smoke coming from it?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  8 лет назад

      +D Boi Hi D Boi, it's not likely that smoke is actually coming from the O2 sensors. The valve cover gasket leak is very common on the M50/M52/M54 engines, and an oil leak is probably the source of your 'smoke'. The gasket leaks oil right onto the exhaust manifolds that house the O2 sensors, so it probably *looks* like smoke is coming from the sensors, but it is in fact oil residue burning off the sensors/manifold. Hope this helps!

The hydoalic oil is checked and there seems to be enouugh inside it. Anyway to know exactly what's causing this? Also, when driving between 50-60 kms/ per hour I have some vibration and some instability along bad roads. Could you tell me what to check for maintenance?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  9 лет назад

      +Turhan Uludağ I haven't heard of that 'hard to move' steering wheel problem, I would suggest having a shop take a closer look. The vibration first check wheel balance or for a bent wheel. Upper control arm bushings when worn also are notorious for causing vibrations at that speed, and stability issues over rough roads.
