  • A walk around Queens Plaza in Long Island City. Queens Plaza sits at the foot of the Queensboro Bridge and has completely changed over the years (gentrification). Since the early 2000's new towers are going up everywhere and corporations have moved in. MetLife was one of the first big companies to move into Queens Plaza. In 2012, JetBlue moved its headquarters to Queens Plaza North.
It's a transportation hub that is served by the 7 & N train above ground Queensboro Plaza station and the subterranean Queens Plaza station with the E, R, and M trains. Plus buses into Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
The Queens Clocktower, which you can see in Queens Plaza North, was the tallest commercial building in Queens for 60 years. The 14-story building was built in 1927 as the Bank of Manhattan Building. Recently landmarked, it is dwarfed by the massive newly-opened Sven, a 762-foot-tall skyscraper, which cradles the Clocktower at its base.

Queens Plaza is hellacious. Any 'luxury living' there is surrounded by the clack-clack of subway trains, unbelievable, non-stop traffic, air pollution (from all the traffic congestion), drivers beeping, and some pretty sketchy blocks and businesses, if you walk in certain directions. There is no true 'neighborhood' feeling there... It's just a bunch of overpriced, soul-less apartment buildings for rich transplants, who either go out to eat at one of the new ($$) restaurants in their curated neighborhood, or else they are getting their food delivered, or else they are getting their Labradoodles and King Charles terriers groomed at one of the new neighborhood doggie daycare spas nearby. You couldn't PAY me to live in that area, never mind even visit to dine somewhere in the area.
And, it was not lost on me that your video contains no actual sound. I'm sure that was for a reason. This video, and Queens Plaza, would not be anywhere near as appealing if it included audio that gave people a sense of what the Queens Plaza area actually SOUNDS like.

You have a vastly different experience in Queens Plaza than I have had.
Important caveat: No audio due to personal conversations, nothing sinister.
I've known Queens Plaza for quite some time and the area is extremely different and way more pleasant than it was during my time in the area, which was full of abandoned buildings, personally witnessing someone get stabbed, open drug use, and aggressive s'x workers.
Hopefully all these brand new residential areas just need their time to get a cozy neighborhood feel. It's really up to the people to care enough to make that happen.
