I'm actually building the my 2012 r1 I got the head ported with cams along with 2mil campbell pistons and Carrillo rods , but this video did help me understand the crossplane alot better thanks for uploading
Glad I could help! That sounds like an awesome build. What kind of power will it be making after? I would love to hear what a cammed crossplane would sound like. If you post a video when it’s done let me know!
Thanks for the kind words. Making this video I just wanted to answer the questions I personally had trying to understand the system. I’m glad it helped! Cheers.
@@JT2JZ it kinda reminds me of like a beefed up 300 would sound like or something idk..lol..to me the flatplane sounds like its faster even tho the newer gen crossplane is faster
flatplanes sounds alla the same, whatever brand you take, they change sound only for the exahaust... r1 is unique...you could understand one is coming miles away from you
it sounds no way like a two bangers, you must hear it in person... it sounds mean.... every hp it has sounds as it's a combined 1 plus1 plus 1 plus 1 and so on motor....you feel every power it has
I found corrosion in the starter solenoid. It’s located under the seat just behind the battery. I did make a previous video on that already. If you do have to replace your starter it’s located under the fuel tank, under the air box and throttle bodies on the back side of the engine
I thought flatplane has the worst Bottom end Power. Had an rn12 before the rn22. And it felt also as nothing is going on until 5000rpm. On the rn22 i have to ride in "A" mode, so it gets more bottom end power than in "STD" mode. Didnt yamaha changed in Motogp to crossplane because the power is more smoothly delivered than on flatplane ?
Worst bottom end for sure but the mid range and top end come in stronger than my older 2006 R1 flate plane Yes in the hi rpm range it is a very smooth delivery. Very lumpy / stumbles down low though. It’s definitely a compromise.
I don't know why you guys in usa say that this bike got no power down low, but having had a 06 and a 07 and a 09 I can only say that the 09 is theo nly bike that onesyou let the clutch even at 2000rpm and give gas it's really a rocket where flatplanes liter bikes are dead till 5000 rpm... mine has decat and leovince sbk terminals but even before it wasn't no joke.... I think usa model is someway restricted and you all fails using A map that the only thing it does is to open the throttle bodies sooner ...way sooner that the bike bogs down....try using and accomadate to standard mode, bottom power is way more consistent and the hp are the same....in A mode the motor bogs down so it lacks torque...that's why plus usa resrtiction imho
Not quite that bad but if you are at a low rpm like 4000 and you grab over half throttle it’s enough load to get a pretty good shudder / shake that you feel in the seat and handle bars.
@@JT2JZ i think you can confirm me this, since you have the crossplane one, isnt true that the crossplane R1 sounds much different in person than on videosr? i mean i hear some R1 crossplane passing by the street here, and they sound so much louder, deeper than on videos
They do sound a bit different in person for sure. Deeper exhaust note than any other style crotch rocket. I think how loud they are depends on the brand of exhaust and how big the mufflers are. Ive heard other flate planes that are louder than my bike just from having smaller mufflers.
Crossplane is the best engine type of the century 🔥🔥🔥
Sooo good right!

That’s exciting. Can’t wait man!
watched loads of crossplane explanations, but this is the best for me, .......finally really got it down!, thanks buddy

Crossplane engine sounds like motogp compared.....bad-ass! Great video!
Motogp is what the crossplane technology was originally made for.
Thanks for the support man 🙏
More vids coming soon
Back in the 90s I came across an rc30 on the road, it sounded insane!.
Nice illustration
I started to draw and aborted very quickly. My artistic skills are very limited lol
I thought your explanation was excellent. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Glad I could help!
well done. I understand that in racing, the power pulsing gives the rear tire, more time to recover, IE dissipate heat.
Always wondered why it was called the big bang and sounded so much nicer. Explained amazingly 👏
I have a 03 r1 I prefer the flat plane sound .. dont get me wrong tho the cross plane sounds good too just not my taste
I do love the flat plane bike sound as well. They are timeless!
The crossplane is almost an acquired taste

At the end of the day they are all fast bikes and I have a blast regardless of what bike I’m on.

This is awesome thanks mate 👍🏻 I have a 2014 r1 and love it
Nice ride man. My favourite bike to date for sure 👌
Is it just me who prefers the sound of a screaming flat plane to the grunty almost twin sounding cross plane!?
I do enjoy both machines for what they have to offer! Very different animals.

What was the reason for the hard cold starting issue you had? If it was the starter going out, could yo do a replacement video?
I found corrosion in the starter solenoid. It’s located under the seat just behind the battery. I did make a previous video on that already.
If you do have to replace your starter it’s located under the fuel tank, under the air box and throttle bodies on the back side of the engine
it is the solenoid, once you change it or sometimes just clean it with wd40 it starts up like new
I ended up having multiple issues. Check out my starter replacement video to see how damaged my starter really was

You need to ride this bike in a video and show exhaust
Will do
is that a SUPRA????
She’s no Bmw
Does riding a crossplain have more vibration when riding it?
Yes. Very slight vibration at lower engine rpms. Not as bad as you would think though and It does smooth out as the rpms rise.
@@JT2JZ Is the vibration enough to make plastics vibrate as well like the dashboard or the mirrors?
Not quite that bad but if you are at a low rpm like 4000 and you grab over half throttle it’s enough load to get a pretty good shudder / shake that you feel in the seat and handle bars.
What year is the R1?
2012
Idk whats louder the flatplane or the crossplane r1 ?
I wouldn’t say one is much louder than the other but very different sound. Flatplane is high pitched and the crossplane has a lower frequency sound.

Would be cheaper to just buy a newer crossplane but hey you never know! People do crazy things these days.
what car do u have
It's a supra
