The Cruel Sea were made up from members of another band Tex fronted, Beasts Of Bourbon. They were pretty wild, too. I'm tipping over the years these boys would have had a few encounters with the long arm of the law. Hard rocking, hard partying, great rock band. Other brilliant Cruel Sea songs include "The Honeymoon Is Over" & "This Is Not The Way Home."
Hey guys , Australian here, I saw the cruel sea about 10 years ago live in a small venue in Sydney, they are amazing! Throughout the gig they all swapped instruments and played each others there it was effing awesome !!! One of my favourite bands ❤️❤️❤️
The Cruel sea where an instrumental band .Tex Perkins offered to write them some songs ,when they said they didn't have a singer Tex offered to sing the songs as well. The honeymoon is over ,Chase the Dragon ,as well as Fangin hoons (instrumental)
Cruel Sea/Tex, always brilliant!! We have had the most incredible rock bands, and I'm so lamenting the demise of our rock scene/bands. It's up to our legends to upkeep the standard. There has always been what I call an Aussie sound, and could always tell if it was Australian or not. 😻😻
The world will truly never know what they missed with the Aussie live scene of the 70:s/80's/90's... from ACDC to INXS, Rose Tattoo to The Angels, The Divinyls to The Church and everyone in between...it was all ours, as Aussie as Vegemite. X
The Cruel Sea were an amazing live band: rock, country, blues, surfer and reggae all mashed together with a punk up front. No bad songs. Check out the Beasts of Bourbon, too🔥
I've seen Tex Perkins live many times, including him performing Johnny Cash songs at the old Parramatta Gaol (which was a helluva show). Last time I saw him I was in the front row at the Camelot Lounge and he hopped down from the stage during the encore, stood in front of me, nose touching nose, and stared me down for ten very long seconds. Not sure what I did to annoy him, but he's one intimidating dude. Great voice, though. P.S. He did say during the same show that he was hopped up on drugs dealing with a tick bite, so maybe he was just a bit under the weather.
Only an Aussie song writer would include the lyric " Dont Drop The Soap". Besides the Beasts of Bourbon and The Cruel Sea, Tex has done tours of his "The Man in Black" tribute to Johnny Cash show. you might like to check it out 👍👍.
A familiar story for many young and wild rebels as we grew up in Oz. Pushing the limits. Remember, part of our recent history was as a dumping ground for the undesirables from the UK. Convict stock. Great song. Two songs to check out 1) Dave Warner's From The Suburbs ''Convict Streak'' and you mentioned the horns in the Oil's song Gadigal Land, well check out The Saints ''Know Your Product'' for the first use of horns in a punk type song in 1978
Brilliant suggestions - both these albums have been criminally ignored over the past 40+ years. I would love to see what they made of 'Convict Streak'.
c'mon guys, that phwack noise the rubber glove makes before an internal inspection is the oldest prison joke in the book, he makes a joke about the dirt track which is a euphemism for asshole
I’ve had internals before in prison… it’s making me laugh so much she just didn’t get it haha. I love you both so much! You compliment each other so well
Wolf HunterZ: This song concept and lyrics are based on an song by American artist,Jon Wayne. "Texas Jail Cell." The Cruel Sea did acknowledge writting credits to Mr.Wayne, which was noble of them.
saw Tex doing a Stones revue recently, with Tim Rogers, Adalita and Phil Jameson - it was an amazing show, and try and see him do teh Johnny Cash show, amazing
I saw Tex Perkins do a show Man in Black the Johnny Cash story where he tells the story of Johnny Cash and June while singing all of his hits. He does an amazing Jonny Cash and would recommend for anyone to see that show if it ever comes out again
OMG I didn't realise you had done the cruel sea! Oh yes this definitely has that 90s vibe 😁 they are fab 👍. Now let's wind the clock back a little further toooooooo 1973(?) to 'Evie' (part one (esp))' by Steve Wright. I think you will like ALOT 😉
You guys crack me up. "What's the rubber glove for?"🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm glad you've never found out "first hand" (so to speak), they're for a cavity search, not necessarily dental.
Had a contractor stealing a whole lot of stuff from my employer. I've just set all the covert videos to this song, he's coming in Monday to have his contract cancelled. We're not going to say anything, just play it on the overhead in the boardroom when he comes in.
Tex is such a lovely bloke. But I have been partying with him. And that’s all I will say. He’s got a phenomenal drop punt with the Sherren in case you guys are interested.
knew of a time when a dumb foul mouthed twerp of a kid caught with drugs was mouthing off to the local coppers who were laying it on thick that he was digging himself a deeper grave when it came to the courts. They were quite persuasive and were wearing him down but he couldnt quite back down and stop being combative. One of the coppers had enough and told the others to just grab him as he pulled a plastic glove out of nowhere and proceeded to lavishly put it on his hand and snap it in place nice and secure. The kid just froze and completely freaked out screaming they were not going to touch him with that and just plain forgot everything and bolted. The coppers had their laugh and didn't bother to pursue him. They had their petty revenge to his words and hopefully taught him a valuable lesson. Deal with drugs and men will hold you down while another will bring out the gloves for a full cavity check...
Finally, someone has reacted to The Cruel Sea. This soundtrack is a part of my young adulthood in Australia. No, I am not a criminal.
yes you are
@@marty2481 you got me, slap em on. I do have the cliche convict ancestry, so I couldn't help it.
I’m a certified criminal and I love this song and them so this is great!
But you sound lost.
About time too, eh!

Honeymoon is over is my fave.
No they weren’t. Completely different members
Saw the beasts of bourbon a few times at the Byron Bar RSL a few times. He was always hammered as shit but put on a good show
The singer Tex Perkins is still going strong and still touring all over Australia. Friends saw him just a month ago.
Just loved it at the start where he goes, 'and the ossifer said..." quick hint at the state he was in 😁

Back in the 80's $5 got you in to see a great band and an overcooked Parma and chips. Those days are long gone.

I could not have said it better. 100% correct in all aspects.
The Cruel Sea were an amazing live band: rock, country, blues, surfer and reggae all mashed together with a punk up front. No bad songs.

I HATED this song when it first came out. But it grew on me and now I love it.
I loved The Cruel Sea 🌊 💙 ♥️
My wife and I got Married in Tex’s pub in Melbourne.
He’s a bit of a legend, probably only trumped by the one and only Timothy Adrian Rogers.
Tex Perkins is the epitome of the Aussie larrikin front man, and this video never fails to crack me up!
I can't believe Suzie said bunghole!! Awesome, that's Cruel Sea influence right there.
Not just any lawyer, you better get a real good one ☝️ 🤙🇦🇺
The cop with the glove was searching for a lost watch.
Tex Perkins is the Iggy Pop of Australia
c'mon guys, that phwack noise the rubber glove makes before an internal inspection is the oldest prison joke in the book, he makes a joke about the dirt track which is a euphemism for asshole
These guys opened for U2 when U2 toured Australia.

Jamie was always lovely, he grew up in my hometown. my grandmother had pictures of my Aunt, Jamie, myself and my dog sitting in her front yard.
@@liandrenI thought he was gorgeous, especially when he let his hair grow a bit - curls get the girls

Worth watching just to hear Susie say “bunghole”!!
The "bumhole" is also known as the prison pocket.
Tex making the coppers work for their pay 🤣
Yes Suzie that's right 🤣🤣🤣
pretty much Queensland Police practices in the 90's
Some Australian Policeman think they are Proctologists, that's what the gloves are for.
You have to love the humour in these lyrics by Texothy perkins

Tex has done a awesome cover of Werewolves of London. It can be found on RocKwiz Tv RUclips channel.
Yeh, saw it at a live Rockwiz show. Absolutely brilliant.

Do yourselves a favour, and listen to Black Stick.

A year later I second that

Cavity comedy.
Tex is Australia's version of Iggy Pop

The story is made up. Tex aka Greg Perkins is good with lyrics
Cruel sea yes
Not the way home
Out of your faces.
Just avoid Lionel Hutz from the Simpsons!
Get into Tex Perkins other band The Beasts of Bourbon. They’ll make you want to crawl back into your mother. 🤘
Tex is the Iggy pop of Australia.
