    Jon Stevens is brilliant 2:42
Lead singer of Noiseworks. Part of my youth, listening to their self titled album. ❤❤❤❤

Jane here. If they make a playlist for the Jesus Christ Superstar, that would be awesome.
Originally, I didn't appreciate this song because John Farnham wasn't in it, but I grew to enjoy it because of the performances of Stevens, Gould, and Taylor. And the band too.
If they like Jon Stevens wailing, I'm looking to Travis and Suzi watching The Last Supper with John Farnham and Jon Stevens confrontation. That's coming up next.

The music is great. I love the original recording (with Ian Gillan of Deep Purple as Jesus) and the Norman Jewison movie, and saw the impressive live show mid seventies in London. The sax solo in this version sounds new to me. Maybe your reaction would have been more appropriate around Easter instead of Xmas.

There is actually a Jesus Christ Superstar production in Australia presently (50th Anniversary). During the Christmas holidays.

I know they updated the musical. It's good but I will always prefer the performance of Ted Neeley as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas. The movie they did was really good. Ted retired from performing the part of Jesus a few years back. He still looks the part after all these years. Ted played the part for 50 yrs. I saw the musical when it was touring the US. It was incredible! It would be fun to put the new and older versions back to back and see what you think. There aren't many videos of the live older version with Ted Neeley but there is the movie.

It's a positive you consider this production to be 'good' 👍. This production probably gets the most criticism for its 90s music arrangement and making it basically a concert and not have anything like props, backdrops, etc. Most criticism is also for John Farnham's performance, portraying the role so different from the previous people. Not so much, Jon Stevens, though.
Comparing the 70s movie to this production would be too different. We would be comparing a movie to live performance! Probably what would be more appropriate there would be comparing the 70s film to the 2000 tv film.
In regards to any possible older proper theatre production, in my opinion, I think Travis and Suzi would enjoy both of them. With one being be a classic theatre production to the other being more a 90s rock concert with well known rock/pop singers (in Australia). Based from seeing their reactions to what I have given them so far (I know Travis and Suzi are positive with all things that are shared to them, though).
(Note - I keep editing this comment 🤣 but I'm basically saying the same thing)

I’m a bit prejudiced as I am a fellow kiwi with Jon Stevens. I’ve see. A few judases over the years, I think he did a good job for a concert style performance. Jon is also a singer not an actor. He’s still singing and well, I’ve seen him twice this year.

Is Judas damned? He fulfilled the role God planned.

You need to watch the 1973 movie. Judas is hitting the notes, but he doesn't have the passion.

Really? I thought it was pretty good.
Bit hard to compare a multi take, studio soundtrack performance to a live performance.

I'm also in agreement with Brian that it's hard to add passion when singing live, concentrating wandering around that round stage without falling off and having no theatre experience. Travis didn't seem to mind about the performance missing any passion. He only rewinds any clips when he enjoys the clip.
Going slightly off topic, I read from JCS fans they are impressed with this Annas.

@@selinacastelow2514 I worked in theatre for 30+ years, and did JCS twice. Judas in the first one was a heavy metal singer. Tons of passion.
