Fun fact: the "Franky is the dad of the Straw Hats" thing comes from an SBS where Oda places the Straw Hat pirates into fitting spots on a family tree and Franky got the dad spot. When Jinbe joined, Oda amended that by giving the dad role to Jinbe (appropriate) and giving the "Perverted Grandma" role to Franky (also appropriate)

I have completely give up on estimating Oda's timeframes. After so many instances of 2019: "one piece will be done in 5 years", "Egghead will be a short in between arc" and similar predictions, the man has crushed my ability to make any assumptions.

Drake is in a private cabin in GS hospital. Smoker literally asked Tashigi where she is to which she responded by saying they were at the Hospital. Smoker is coming from somewhere and is most likely on the way to the hospital towards where Koby, Drake & other SWORD Members are.
I was confused by Smoker, it looked like waves but I don't think he had propulsion in the sea.

This is why I enjoy the "in-between" arcs more than the "main" arcs. They can be really good, but sometimes too long. Arcs like this and Saboady cram so much into the runtime that give you food for thought in spades!
I am gonna bet 5 chapters max we are finished with Egghead. Still its already a 10/10 arc i don't need anything else .
Honestly if we get the crew reuniting with Vivi before the arc ends it'll be the greatest arc Oda has ever written imo

To be honest I don't think there is much left to do in the arc. The straw hats almost together, Vegapunk's message is interrupted and the dome is open. The only things I can think of to do is meeting Vivi and deciding what happens to York.

I think end of July is a pretty reasonable time frame to tie up the last few loose ends, unless we enter flashback mode or something which I doubt. Since this arc was so heavy on world building, I wonder if the post arc chapters will be just as dense as the last few post arcs or if they'll be lighter reads. Kinda hope we get to see the strawhats cool down and hang out one last time before the finale.

When the giant robot first attacked Mariejois, it's mentioned that it shut down before it could do any major damage. It was ordered to be destroyed by the Elders but scientists wanted to preserve it (a la Ohara) and hid it on the island that would become Egghead.

@@jagkopp I just looked it up. Even read a few chapters. Apparently, Drake's father is Diez Barrels. Which means Drake's real name is Diez Drake. But instead, he goes by X Drake. Diez (Spanish for 10) = X (Roman Numeral for 10). Ch. 765-767. Ep. 704-706. Drake didn't get along with his father, so I'm guessing that's why he did the name change. Hope this helps. 😅
12:02 nope you're not the only one that felt that way. I too read that as both of them recognizing the cursed sword of the other. This might be a confirmation that Venus has the Supreme Grade sword Shodai Kitetsu.
One thing if I may add, to me it seems that the clash of the swords resulted in a "anormal" explosion, like if a clash of two cursed swords generated that. (analogy: two magnet repel themselves if pointed with the same pole at each other)
Funny fact: We've already see Zoro do the Rashōmon attack before and I'm not japanese but im pretty sure it means "To open a path/gateway" but this new upgraded attack has an addition to the name (like purgatory onigiri) and the addition can be translate to "Heaven for the elderly" so Zoro's attack here is literally saying to Ethan "I will sent you to God's home for the elderly"

The within you translation from Viz is very interesting cuz not only does it make the traitor answer make less sense than it did before (since the D clan arent a cohesive faction) but instead of it singling out an individual(s) with among us but has the meaning thats its some kind of trait in all those that bear the D initial
I also noticed that vegapunk has a stern expression on his face 3 times throughout the message, once when he brings up ancient weapons, second when he mentions the roger pirates not acting and lastly the mentioning of the d clan,and based on the within you translation that could imply that each D clan member either has the power to activate an ancient weapon or has a piece of the void century truth in them either or option irks vegapunk

Seeing characters that haven't been relevant to the story in over 1000 chapters is the reason One Piece is the greatest, and its length only adds to the overall quality of the work.
On a side note, I remember when we thought Egghead was gonna be a quick and simple(ish) arc, then everything with Bonnie, Kuma and the Gorosei happened. I do feel like we're approaching the finale of Egghead though, we'll most likely be done with Egghead before the year ends, but I can also see it ending in another month or so.
My whole thing about the "Mo" thing is that its probably a direct translation of kanji/Katakana used, so the English world could be completely different and that it could be the starting word of a sentence, title, name, etc so narrowing down to what he was about say specifically for that word is impossible. If it was a word pertaining to a title or name id go look for Japanese words that fit, that use the beginning letter of Mo and keep in mind Oda loves puns.

i’m still super interested in york’s statement about the timeline of events. when vegapunk recorded the message, how he realized lulusia was gone and THEN collected data to predict the earthquake, how he took the precautions of hiding the transponder snail in the iron giant, all while allegedly not know that york was the traitor (since by her words he couldn’t have been acting when she did the reveal to him). i feel like there’s still one piece (lol) of the puzzle that we’re missing here
also at about 9:00 there’s a clear gesture for what’s supposed to be an edit to put a panel on the side but it looks like it slipped through the editing process so instead it’s just really funny LMAO

As someone who doesn’t read books I appreciate your analysis. Oda’s writing makes me feel and think but you articulate how he does it.

The Jump translation uses “within” while other translations have “among” in Vegapunks last statement. So with among, it could give information about why Teach is weird, or with within it could be what you said about them having the destine to oppose to the world government.

When Oda said(in an SBS) if the strawhats were a family, Franky'd be the dad, Jimbei hadn't joined for a long time. Brook is an easy grandpa and Frankey was the next oldest so i think that's where Oda came from

Franky builds kids cool toys, talks/moves like a robot, makes wacky hairstyles, and sings stupid songs to make "his kids" laugh.
Even in Water 7 before the straw hats he picked people up off the streets and took them in. He made them part of the 'Franky Family' so that they wouldn't feel alone. He makes a huge effort to be a father-figure to those who never had one because he knows what it feels like to be abandoned.
Franky is the most attentive to the feelings of the Crew mates never has anything to prove and only just acts as support the crew both as a character and his role as shipwright.

my theory is that he was going to say "within you there is a... piece of the eternal flame." it was the entire focus of vegapunks speech to begin with.
the original flame was abused to power an anicent weapon and sink the world. it needed to be stopped. clearly, joyboy cant extinguish it, its eternal. so instead, he broke it into pieces and gave it to random trusted people to carry it on. if the eternal flame is made from joyboy himself, then it would make sense that when a D clan member dies and that piece of joyboy leaves their body, they would smile since thats what joyboy is all about.
and then the flame would pass to the person who "inherited their will" next.
In chapter 1067, Vegapunk does mention that the iron giant ran out of power before he could cause any damage in Marijoa. The elders, if they were alive back then, probably didn't even need to fight it. The World Government at th time did order it to be destroyed, but scientists at the time were so curious about it that they preserved it through the ages
With Oda taking more breaks I say by the end of August we will be done Egghead hopefully i hope this doesn't get drag out too much.

It's been sixteen 16 years since Robin asked Rayleigh about the "Will of D" and the Void Century. This was in Chapter 507, released July 2008. To this day we know nothing. That tease was unnecessary.
1:03 I think it's going to end within the next couple of months because the story is basically done at this point. There's no way in hell the Strawhats are going to fight the five elders right away (because it's way too soon storywise -I could see Oda letting them beat one of the five when Saturn was alone, but now that they are all there, there's just no chance). My guess; The robot will hold them off long enough for them to escape, maybe with the help of Oggy and Broggy.

It seems like Vegapunk is referring to something that all of the D people have within each of them, so I don't think he's trying to say "within you there is a mole" or something like that, if that's his intention I think he would say "among you" instead.

Vegapunk bring up those who have the D as their middle name (Luffy, Garp, Ace, Dragon, Law and Black Beard). As Saint Topman Warcury attacked the Iron Giant. Honestly the end of the chapter had me thinking that the message might not be done. Seemed like York and Mars were more questioning whether it was over but seeming to still think it was.
It's small, but the first panel of this chapter has the Don Krieg Pirates from Baratie in the background at Pirate Island; so after not seeing them again since East Blue, we finally got an update that they either joined Blackbeard or they are at least still around in the Grand Line
Seeing Kuro again would be nice, although we did get that requested cover page not too long ago
I don’t expect it to happen, but I think it’s possible for the transmission to come back online. The elders didn’t destroy the robot, just kinda knocked it down. It’s possible they just scared the snail into cutting off the transmission and the snail could theoretically just come back on
