Hi Phil, They drain the fuel tanks sometimes, they say for safety,?? so adding 5 litres is so little over the area of the tank that it can't raise the float. put another gallon in it and your gauge will lift up.
I am no amazed how many fixings hold on that wing Phil. Spot weld that bracket mate, I know it’s only a support bracket, but it looks bad! Bit of a debacle with the fuel gauge? Should tidy up nicely into a nice wee runaround for someone. Hope that suspension is ok? Keep up the good work Phil 👍

Can't focus on the paint code, but it's probably 1D or UD (both Clear White). If you can use your phone camera to scan the text, and click Translate, it should help.
Doing a grand job Phil 👌🏻, how many years left of your apprenticeship 😂 5 litres ? My misses drinks more than that in a night down the Pub 😉, would put a couple gallons at least in a copart car with a dodgy gauge, nice vid 👍🏻.
I'm going to be a little negative and say that I think bolting the bracket instead of spot welding isn't great,maybe you need to invest in a little welder,also you need a panel hammer and a proper tool for drilling spot welds,as slot of people have said I think you should have tried putting another 5 litres of fuel in before taking the fuel pump out and getting fuel in the car etc but other than that great video👍
Here we go with the spot welding police, yeah it would be better to weld it back on but really it’s not a critical part and sometimes you just gotta work with the tools you’ve got rather than throwing money at everything.

Get a spot weld drill bit, it will let you cut through one skin and leave the base intact to weld to. 👍

Don’t be so keen on drilling spot welds! Leave some metal to weld to.
He needs a spot weld bit so you only go through 1 layer leaving something to weld to.

If a car is left empty of fuel long enough, the float will stick. Filling it up will unstick the float usually. Happened on a car I bought.

My berlingo van when the fuel runs mega low the gauge doesn't move with 5lt it probably needed 10lt to move your gauge on cluster mate

You just sprayed that bracket with four coats of white paint, no primer, no rust inhibitor. Oh sorry there was the “you know” wire brush

School boy error with the petrol only putting in 5 litres when it's been completely drain . Hence it didn't budge the needle

The float could be holed and filled with fuel not air?
Check float is not burst and full of petrol ! happened to me 😆
