  • If you have Atrial Fibrillation, check this out! I've been on the keto diet and I really love it but it seems my electrolytes got off and my heart beat was thrown off. These tags almost instantly made me normal.

A magnesium supplement and proper hydration did it for me. And all my cardiologist wanted to do was pump me full of drugs. Never mentioned better nutrition, magnesium or hydration. I fired my cardiologist and told her why. You have to be an advocate for yourself.

I am a 79 year old (in 2 weeks) retired ER physician and I am a rabid advocate of the health benefits of cycling. It truly works miracles and as an example I can still do 4 minute 19 second on the USAA Cycling 5 minute TT (a 4% average upgrade at 6300 foot elevation in Colorado Springs). I weigh low 170 pounds. I can't believe how good I still feel thanks to cycling BUT one area doctors never discuss (and this is huge) is alcohol and the heart. Alcohol is a potent cardiomyotoxin (meaning it is toxic to the heart muscle and causes heart muscle inflammation) but this is dose related. When I was in training I had a 23 year old die from his excessive alcohol intake causing congestive heart failure. In the ER I would see young people come in with an arrhythmia over the holidays due to excessive alcohol (thus the title "Holiday Heart"). As one gets older the risk of Atrial Fibrillation goes up logarithmically and AF can be exercise induced. AF causation is multifactorial and these precipitators make it much more likely during a ride: dehydration, low potassium, hypothermia (even drinking a smoothie can bring it on!), lack of sleep, too much caffeine, thyroid excess, and others. But no one ever seems to bring up the subject of excessive alcohol prior and the risk of AF. I love a nice red wine and this leaves me conflicted but I have found that half a bottle 2-3 days a week seems to not precipitate AF so one does not need to totally do without. My take home message to all us geriatric cycling advocates is keep all those precipitators to a minimum including alcohol and you can continue to partake of the Fountain of Youth and not need what most doctors would recommend: blood thinners or cardiac ablation!
Also, watch your heart monitor (Garmin or whatever) like a hawk and when your rate starts getting in the upper ranges just back off to keep it out of trouble. Very high rate from exertion can bring on AF. AND be sure you are not overweight because any fatty tissue on your body gives off inflammatory cytokines (signaling molecules) which leave you in a chronically inflammed state prone to AF (and cancer).

    Hi Jeff
My friend Steve had a 5h ablation procedure in Bordeaux in France beginning of Oct 21 to get rid of his atrial fibrilation. It worked for 2 weeks and unfortunately, his heart went back into AF after 2 weeks. Heart beating at 150/mn. On Monday 8 november 21, he watched your video, went to Decathlon to buy ELECTROLYTES, he took one tablet ....and miracle, he felt a great feeling immediatelt and within one hour his heart went back to normal at 60/mn. It has been 6 days now ... he still takes betablockers though on the advice of his cardiologist
    We informed the cardiologist immediately.
Steve is so grateful to have solved this, at least for now. We are very grateful to you and lucky to have come across your video. There must be a link with magnesium and potassium to fix atrial fibrilation, at least post surgery on his case.
    Thank you again Jeff

Ablation can bring some % of improvement, depending on the state of the heart. And the procedure can be repeated for further improvement, according to Dr Navinder Sawnhey, whom I just watched on RUclips . Recovery times and conditions can also vary, depending on the condition of the heart. But the good thing is that there will be some improvement after each ablation, according to Dr Sawnhey, who does this procedure and is very positive on it. But many patients feel that recovery can take several weeks, rather than the few days that Dr Sawnhey assures.

I wish it were this simple. Electrolytes - especially magnesium and potassium - can play a huge role, but there are many others, and there is no silver bullet. The closest one there is, however, is weight loss for those with afib who classify as obese. Dropping those lbs will lower blood pressure and reduce the severity of sleep apnea - the two biggest causes of afib.

Hey Jeff , thank you for posting this video . I have chronic a fib and had an ablation, several of them last August . My heart was a mess . It took four months for my heart to calm down. I started the keto diet 2 1/2 weeks ago, which I really like, and then last week after three months of no episodes Bam I had an episode and like you, it scared me . I also have lymphedema , so have to be very careful with sodium . I tried the NUUN. Wow! What a difference . I feel so much better . I talked to my cardiologist about it yesterday and he said "whatever you doing keep doing it". Anyway I hope between keto, ( which by the way has real promise for helping lymphedema) electrolytes and determination. When I go in three months from now to discuss the amiodarone I'm on , horrible drug , and getting me off of it. I won't have to have another ablation . If you do your research.. you'll find this is very common (electrolyte imbalance causing arrhythmia and AFIB). And the shared experience is that the majority of doctors and cardio are missing it, because they have no education in nutrition (and neglect to ask the right questions). It can also mean it's time to audit your diet and lifestyle, because both will help avoid surgery or complications down the road (what I wish my cardiologist had said to me - male 33 years old)

I have been diagnosed with svt, and now with afib. The whole thing, as you all know, it is very disconcerting when an episode is happening. My doctor has tried a few medication combinations and it may work for a week to a month and then I revert right back into having daily episodes lasting an hour or up to 7-8 hours. I have desperately been searching Google and RUclips on how to stop an afib episode... and here it is in a 2 minute and 59 second video. I bought the last bottle of Nuun at my Walmart, came home and put one in my water. It has been 19 days now and I have had a flip flop here and there, but nothing like before. This past Sunday evening I was having repeated flip flops in my chest. I made a fresh glass of water put a tablet in and after it dissolved took 5 or 6 big swigs and within 10 minutes the flip flops were gone.
I've tried magnesium, drinking lots of water, putting my face in ice water... all to no avail.
This worked for me. I hope more people try it and tell of their experiences- good or bad. But I do hope it helps.

The Afib I have was caused by medical incompetence at the VA. They are so far behind what's going on it is pathetic. I met a doctor who interned at the VA and he said they are more than 30 years behind. So, you can understand why I'm a bit skeptical about talking to anyone there. Their approach is drugs, drugs, drugs. As I've been saying for the longest time, the VA is the drug companies' dream. They buy drugs by the boatload and that is why they are so free with them. Besides that, a doctor that I had (now retired) at the VA told me that the pharmacy controls the VA healthcare.
Thanks for your suggestion. I sit here with my heart bouncing around. It started at 5 AM just as I was going to go out and exercise as I do most mornings and I'm pretty sure that it will be going on for over 12 hours. At least it's not like it was when It began. I was out of sorts for at least a whole day. What helped to control it wasn't Metoprolol. That crap made it worse. I began using Dr. Stephen Sinatra's protocol. I dumped the Metoprolol for d-ribose. Hope you could find the time to answer my question , I am healthy most of my life hiking up mountains and doing a mix of most things, I got severely dehydrated and my potassium was low and had been pushing hard in record heat with sodium a white substance you get on your shirt , I had actually for lack of not knowing what happened fishing a stream I was found pasted out and went to the ER with a super high temp and had came out about the same as they gave me potassium supplements and a machine gave more and magnesium a bit too, I was there only one night and when about a year and half later I had been diagnosed with a-fib and I feel my water mineral balance is off and it could be a factor and most scoff at this but I know my body and gained like fifteen pounds not eating more, I have planned thus week a cardio version where they shock to restart and get the my rhythm back to normal by the above procedure and lived with thus like six months (dumb) and when you talked about Nunn’s I have used thus and others just recently and DID YOU DO ANY OTHER PROCEDURES TOO ORJUST INCORPORATE THIS INTO YOUR DIET ? Please answer me if you can as it sounds like I may be having similar problems , If you could make it clear to me I would be ever grate, Sincerely Kevin .

Acid overproduction is the main cause in most cases, caused by overeating, fat, spicy food, alcohol, and coffee. Acid causes spasms of the esophagus and the stomach. Drinking water with any tablet means that the water dilutes the acid, so you may feel better, and the aFib may even go away. For decades I have had aFib, lasting weeks sometimes. ER visits, unable to walk 10 feet without resting, etc. Stopped PPI, metoprolol, blood thinner, and feel almost perfect when I avoid the things mentioned above.

I'm certain there is a link with what you mentioned. I have AFib episodes, and the conclusion I've reached over the years is: There's a real problem and it's just waiting for something to trigger it. The trigger can be what you mentioned, or some physical position, or an emotional response, or a combination of many. I think of like a wire with the insulation missing on one spot, it may be fine, and not be shorting out, until something comes along on disturbs it.

Wow,. so surprised to see your comment about acid, that is exactly what causes most of my AFIB, my doctor never comments about it when I tell him that some foods cause acid reflux and after AFIB. Anti-acid medications help me a lot, but the best things for me is to avoid the types of foods and drinks you mention. It's not easy since I love food, and was use to eating a lot. But its worth the change, I already know if I eat bad, or overeat AFIB will come on. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I was having a bout of Afib which occurs randomly, may be every couple of months. It can last from a few minuets to a few days, this time it was quite bad only marginally improving over a week and was irritating me. Jeff's experience ticked a few boxes for me, Afib/low carb diet so I tried an electrolyte, not the same brand but (HIGH5 Zero Electrolyte Hydration Tablets Added Vitamin C) water soluble. It didn't clear up the Afib with in minuets as others experienced but I did experience a general change for the better quite quickly. The big thing is the dehydration. Which is exactly what drinking alcohol will do to you. I’ve been electrocardioverted four times. After my last one 15 months ago, I decided to stop drinking (not that I drank a lot) and go on a plant based diet. I feel great and lost 30 lbs.
You get to a point where you no longer desire a drink at all. This might have something to do with Tony Robbins point that we do everything in life to gain pleasure or avoid pain. And to change what you are doing you just have to change the amount of pleasure or pain you associate with it.
For those of you that insist on drinking alcohol, drink some coconut water after drinking. It naturally hydrates. If you haven’t had it before just be prepared for the fact that it tastes like water that has had dirty gym socks soaking in it for a week.

electrolytes can have a tremendous effect. I'm on keto and been there myself. I almost passed out at work once and went in the breakroom and chugged a tsp of salt in a cup of warm water. Felt the effect in about 5 minute.
I gotta say you can get the same thing through other means a hell of a lot cheaper. A whole can of salt is about $3 bucks (also get vital iodine usually) and you can get a month's supply of potasium for about $10. I've been on keto for 18 months i take Sodium, potasium, mag, lithium (yes it's a mineral not a medication), calcium, zinc and a good multivitamin daily. 4 months after I went on Keto my doctors took me off both Diabetes meds, blood pressure and afib. Also cut my constipation meds down, I've had a colorectal resection due to FAP.
If you like the convience of an electrolyte tablet great, but they cost a buck a pill and you'd need several a day. Individual cost a buck a week. Not to mention premade electrolytes have twice as much NA as K and you need twice as much K as electrolytes a day. NUUN also has sugar added, not great if you're on keto.
    Are you still on keto?

Magnesium and Zinc are both essential nutrients for health. Magnesium supports muscle relaxation, nerve, heart, and bone health. Zinc is vital for normal growth and development, and supports the body's natural immune defense system. Plus essential Electrolytes are substances that have a natural positive or negative electrical charge when dissolved in water. They help your body regulate chemical reactions, maintain the balance between fluids inside and outside your cells, and more. Also the Vagus Nerve stimulation and general relaxation of the nervous system. Also look out for T4 syndrome, almost most of your nerves pass through this area in the back and if your T4 T6 area is tight then it can cause false nervous messages especially regulating heart, breathing and sweating. Unfortunately, T4 Syndrome is a very poorly understood and often unrecognized condition. As a result, no one confidently knows what T4 Syndrome is. However, it appears to involve two primary defining characteristics. First, spine and rib cage stiffness are always present in T4 Syndrome. This is no different than someone without T4 Syndrome who has, for example, a stiff and painful back. Of note, the part of the back typically involved with T4 Syndrome is located between the shoulder blades. The second characteristic involves a disruption of the autonomic nervous system. While that might not make sense immediately, many people will recognize the symptoms described above, which are often involved with this disruption. However, people with T4 syndrome can have a highly variable presentations so not everyone experiences the same manifestations. Furthermore, the autonomic nervous system impacts nearly every tissue in the body. This far reaching reality might explain why T4 Syndrome can have such a huge array of symptoms.

Question to those who have taken Nuun...Does it matter which kind of Nuun you take? I see there are 4 types.. Nuun Sport, Nuun Vitamins, Nuun Immunity, and Nuun Rest. Do you have presistant or permanant afib? Do taking Nuun help in preventing stroke from AFib?

In my case magnesium didn't help me and also nuun didn't work for me.
One time when I got afib and instead of a pill ,I took a half of teaspoon of Nu-Salt which is potassium. My afib was gone in a few minutes.
I am taking potassium everyday now and no afib so far.

I checked the product out. It has dextrose in it which is sugar and I have no idea why they put it in there because it also has stevia which is sweet. I try not to consume anything with added sugar. I will try to find another product without it.

@@jesseerlenmeyer5753 There is no rhythm or specific reason for Afib. Everybody's case is a bit different from everybody elses! Stress seems to be a trigger for me. Some people will get triggered by over eating or drinking cold drinks. Others if they over exercise, and the list goes on and on....
I can go many months without having an Afib episode. Then again, about couple years ago I had several occur within a week. Go figure!? But I do agree about staying hydrated and keeping your electrolytes balanced!!😉

Your product might work for you and that is great. BUT, when you look at the dosages it is very small. Therefore fairly expensive. I would
look further for other combination supplements that have at least 100% daily amounts if not more, much more in some cases.
When you make your own combos the price is extremely small.

Try not to worry if you have an AF episode. I have them every week lasting for a day or even two. I feel awful but I'm learning to live with it, I do meditation. @@suzieg9076 It's not helping with the AFIB but I have other factors involved. It definitely helps with anxiety, but it may take a few weeks to notice a difference. Taking magnesium orally is ineffective, but the oil sprays are absorbed into the body much better. People recommend taking it in the evening as it may cause drowsiness if you take it in the morning.
