Ooof that sucks!! I'm 32 and I have a history of agoraphobia, and same as you, I hardly went anywhere and didnt have my first relationship till 31. I just want to encourage you to not stop fighting it!
I didn't leave my house from the ages of 19-23. Like.. at all. I then fought it enough because I was so depressed, I no longer cared about living, so why not try doing something before I off myself?
Then I had amaaazing years from 23-27, which at that point the agoraphobia came back with a vengeance. I fought it and did well till I was 31~ now I'm slowly getting it again.
I just found out recently I may also have adhd, not just depression and anxiety, and it explains why everything has always been so hard and why I'm always procrastinating. I have been to a psychiatrist and phycologist and am on B blockers to help my agoraphobia. it really helps!
Everyday you fight for just pushing your self out there- even tho it's small steps, it's worth it!!
And 35 is still pretty young, we both have alot of life left and many years to come~ why not live it starting from now 🥰💕

I'm 23 and had such an extreme panic attack 2 years ago, my brain totally shifted and became agoraphobic. Very extreme agoraphobia. So much that I didn't leave my student studio for 1 and a half years. 22 square meters, 9th floor, 1 window, white walls. That's all I saw during this time and it felt like I put myself in an insane Asylum.
I had to quit university and go back to my parents because it was just getting worse. I'm still at their house, typing this comment.
I used to have friends who'd come visit me while I was and still am in this dark hole. They would ask me "How have you not gone insane yet?". I reflected a lot on that question and I came to the conclusion that I still have hope. Hope never left me. It's still there and that's the reason I keep going.
Now I'm starting to try to go outside more and more, even though I still feel extremely anxious and that I think I'll lose control in public. I remember how good life was before and how bad I want it back.
Anxiety is really tricky to beat when it takes over your mental. Hope and ignoring that voice in your head will be hard at first to master, but eventually you'll see the benefits. I hope you get better, including anyone who is having a really rough time with agoraphobia. One day we'll look back at those times and ask ourselves "Why was this such a big deal to me?".

I’m 34 and I think we are still very young I absolutely hate the outside world, I have been hurt, people are mean, the anxiety and panic attacks are trauma triggers. I wasn’t like this at 20, it takes a lot of beating down to just shut down. Also I suggest going slow by joining a hobby online group and slowly build up socialization on discord groups and attend a meeting.

Edit: Before telling me what my “peak years” are. You better understand you and I aren’t the same.
Yes 15-19 are fucking peak years. They’re the years of socializing, years of physical and mental development.
I missed the most essential years to develop my brain and my body. “Age isn’t just a number”
My height has stopped and I could’ve developed emotionally, socially, mentally and physically. Not only is it harder to develop these things after 19. It means I wasted 4 fucking years. If you don’t care about wasting your years, be my guest. Don’t tell me I didn’t miss anything.

I totally get what you're saying. The pandemic started when I was 15. And it changed a lot of things for me.
Look what I'm about to say. You're either going to believe in it. Or the inner critic is going to make you not Believe in it.
From our day to day life,
      our day to day thoughts.
We get to develope certain beliefs on ourselves. Those certain beliefs become a filter to your life, and more than that a filter to yourself
Use top seeing yourself the way used to see yourself. So you stop acting the way you used to act. And you think you lost your spark.
But what really is that From what You did in the pandemic you developed a filter on ur self, Or an inner voice that tells you what you are and what you're not,
what you used to be? And what you are now.
The key is in Letting go of that inner Critic, And letting yourself be. Once u the truly set yourself free from your mind. You will notice that you're spark is Still here and never went away. Deep down, you still wanna laugh deep down. He still won't have fun deep down he wants to have conversations.

“We rather stay quiet when we have a lot to say. We do nothing when we have a lot that we want to do. It’s harsh and we are harsh to ourselves.”

    • @Oblisk
      @Oblisk 8 месяцев назад +1

@@j-us-t_be-in-g in your world view, it may seem like no one is listening to you. And the amount of experiences you’ve had verify that for you. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who’ll listen. I had a similar worldview myself, and thought even my parents wouldn’t listen, and I self isolated myself. Like many of us, I turned to RUclips as it was a feeling of connection with various creators that I was watching. Fortunately, I’ve learned a lot and got instilled better mindsets and was able to transfer that into my daily life. Like dominoes, day after day, I slowly transformed into a better person that I am now.
And society does make us believe we have a lot to do. And nothing is wrong about that. Biologically, we have few simple tasks: eat, procreate, and survive. But what separates us from our primate ancestors or any animal for that matter, as Sigmond Freud states: there’s two motives that push us humans, “the sex urge and the desire to be great.” Or as Dr. Dewey rephrases, “the craving to be important.” It’s this literal craving, this itch to feel important that has made society what it is today. I’m not here to tell you that you have a lot to do, “a lot” is subjective in this topic. This is just food for thought. Hope you have a great day 🤝

@@j-us-t_be-in-g”society makes us believe we have a lot to do”? there’s endless amount of things you can do: learn how to: draw, edit, math, code, speak a new language. Wow, I really connected with this. As a child, I used to go out and do a lot of activities but then once I reached adulthood I got burnt out and just felt tired all the time so I ended up staying home, and it was so easy to use the pandemic as an excuse. I'm 24 now and I'm starting to pick myself back up and do things I used to love like going out and making art. I've also been dealing with the guilt of feeling unaccomplished but I just want whoever is reading this to know that it's never too late to start or restart something you love. Gotta be careful with that. Another side effect of staying at home too much is that we tend to get a little crazy. Thought patterns, speech, mannerisms and such can transform little by little when we lack input from other people, which inevitably leads to us seeming "off" to other people because we havent actually been practicing social skills in a manner which is open to critique. Even going out to see the crazy world can help you reorient yourself, not just normal people.

Uk We are in a similar situation.
I pushed most of my friends away, I stopped talking to my girlfriend. Because I legitimately feel drained when I talk to them.
Doesn't mean it's bad for sure. There is and will be a positive outcome out of it if you use it right.
Maybe they weren't the right people for you. And maybe you just need someone that when you talk to you feel energized. But let's not go away from the fact that you have to feel energized by yourself. And in some sense you have to protect your own Energy and not let others drain it. I would say go easy on Yourself and remove the sense of Urgency that you're always feeling. It's OK to live life slow. And once you start living your life slow. And go easy on your self you will actually get it fast

I absolutely feel this on another level. 24, living at home with my father, who is nearly 66. Too expensive to move out meanwhile I work a lot and work hard, come home, and some days absolutely hate it because I’m so bored and I feel like I’m wasting my life away being home. Coped up with people that only watch the news, highlights all the negatives, turns all the lights off in the house making it dark then sleeping all day, and wants to do nothing but sit around and watch TV but then gets tired of being tired and complains more then goes back to the cycle. So I’m in my room doing nothing. Not everyone is good for you including family and sitting around all the time kills you slowly. Sometimes you just have to get out and do things even if you are alone. You have to be very careful on who you let into your life because some people will bring depressing energy to be honest and we can’t have that. Get out of the house. You live once.

This hits so hard, I turned 22 a while ago and I feel like nobody around me understands the things you talked about. I'm tired of hearing how it must be so nice for me, staying at home alone every day being able to do "what I want". I live in a small town in the countryside, don't have money to drive to the city. I can't even go outside for a walk, because there are some people I don't want to meet under any circumstances. The town is so tiny, I'd certainly meet them. Going on a walk here just gives me a lot of anxiety so the only option is to stay in my room day in day out. I'm tired of it, but I'm especially tired of how people think I'm living some kind of dream life.
It's pretty much mental torture and makes you loose your will to live.
The things you explain really hit the nail on the head, I'm an introvert and I do really enjoy being alone but no human interactions will make you feel drained and like you're not even living no matter who you are.
So guys, please if you have the possibility take the initiative, talk to your friends first, go out to the bakery to buy something in person instead of opting for delivery, try joining a yoga class or just meet up with someone for tea at home!
The first step is recognizing the situation you are in, staying at home too much isn't good for you. And by watching this video you already took that first step, it's only going to get better from here on

The part about being trapped by your own thoughts is scarily accurate. Personally, lines of thinking that require a long time / long train of thought seem to be most frequent outside of conversation. Not to disregard deep conversations / discussion , those are a whole different level - however you can know yourself more by being alone. Someone trapped in their own head is the jailer too.

Your insights about the relationship we have with our home really resonated with me, because I've been struggling with staying at home too much and feeling isolated too, just like you and many other people. It's so easy to fall into the trap of staying inside and losing touch with the outside world, especially when life feels overwhelming or uncertain. The comfort of our homes can turn into a prison if we're not careful. Your words are a great reminder of the importance of balance and stepping out of our comfort zones. I appreciate the encouragement to make small changes and focus on positive interactions. Keep up the great work, Peter! 🙂

I find it difficult to "fit in," and finding the right friend takes a long time. People in general can be problematic, and i always feel like they see me as this "weird person." This is possibly the most relevant advice for me. I actually feel like my room is becoming my whole world after stuck in here for 7 months. (And I was like this for years 3 years ago) I used to be an active and social kid, and now I've become a very silent person with very little emotion. Life has become grey. No colors. I have a goal to achieve and I'm striving for them, but I'm physically alone. And that triggers my anxiety disorder.
I gotta go out regularly, instead of daydreaming of fantasies I want them to happen to me.
I'm kinda surprised you've realized this in your 20. It took a lot more time for me to learn. Best luck for you, friend. May the dream you chase be held in your palm.

I barely went somewhere else, and during those 4 years, i only travelled once. Life started to feel boring and my personality changed a lot. My house became more like a prison than a shelter. @@Peterwithanr it’s a type of autism. Its symptoms are a bit different for anyone, in my case i have these:
      - i kind of struggle understanding social situations, especially emotions. What i mean is that i can understand what someone feels but not why, for example i understand the concept of being in love but can’t feel it, or i understand someone being sad but not why that specific thing makes them that sad. For me death is just not being able to see someone for a long time so i won’t cry nor really understand why some people cry that much over it, for example (i will of course respect their feelings though).
      - i have a sort of repetitive behaviour. In other words when i for example like something, i won’t try to find something better typically.
      - i can’t stand the slightest change in routine. i have no problem with literally any possible situation as long as i know it’s coming beforehand, but if someone is suddenly changing what i expect the day to go like, it will really disturb me.
      - strong sounds are really painful
      - i’m clumsy (it’s an actual symptom 😂)

I can stay at home for years and never crave to meet other people. Guess some people are different. The silence and peace of 4 walls is what I want most.

if you work a 9 to 5 for enough time home will be the SHINY place. if you stay at home alot and never do anything outside for enough time going outside will be THE SHINY thing that you wanna do.
its all phases and based on how you currently feel. a balance is always the key.
      proud of you tho
