Americans tend to call all modern tube artillery pieces "howitzer". However, during this period, guns and howitzers were separated things. This long barreled, heavy, long range tube artillery piece was a gun. It's howitzer counter part was the 203mm one.

Thank you for the information, I didn't know that. When I was doing research on the M2, they used those terms interchangeably. I also noticed when they make minor changes to an artillery piece over the years, they also change the designation entirely.
