The R3D is a cool camera & footage is easier to work with but honestly, it just goes to show without good lighting and fundamentals, footage will look bad no matter what camera.
I feel this footage would’ve looked the same or even better on a Sony a7siii or full frame camera that could let in more light and with a typical 24-70 lens at 2.8. Having someone around to hold a small light with a softbox would make the footage look 10x better too.
Just my opinion based on experience

i am copletely with you about the lighting situation. Would've helped a lot to have a small soft source to get some background seperation. I skipped through the video and thought that we where still watching the BTS until i realised this was the Komodo footage.

also has to do with post and coloring. There's more range in this camera to stylize, push the blacks, or add more contrast. the footage was okay it just needed but colored a little better. on log footage the lighting realy has to be on point.

A lot of things could had helped to make this footage/situation better.
The proper lighting or even some color grading (I just added the conversion LUT from RED and adjusted ISO/WB)
So I agree with all of these comments. However, the point of the video is to explain why I personally consider the KX a well rounded camera more than capable to handle any situation. It’s all about the guy holding it. (This was my third time shooting with it, just for the record).
Thank you all for taking the time to watch, I appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for sharing your passion and this video. I realize that run-and-gun is challenging. Realizing you didn't ask for feedback, I would like to suggest that you decide where and how white balance can help maintain continuity with your story and stick with it throughout to keep people focused on what you are trying to share. I've made that mistake a few times where thinking that being accurate meant more quality vs seeing what it did to my final edit.

I really like this camera from what I have seen so far. I have recently decided to step away from client based work and step into the world of narrative cinematography and I think this could be the camera for me.

Same here brother, if you are in a position where it makes sense to upgrade, it is a great camera. But it’s just a camera and there are more affordable/powerful tools out there. It won’t bring you more clients and it takes time to learn how to exploit its potential (going through that now). Remember there are many layers to narrative work that require mastering and are more important than the camera. Anyway, thank you for watching bro.
PD: I don’t regret buying mine.

@@Ernesto_media appreciate this man. I think the biggest things I’ve learnt so far on my journey is 1. If you’re going to buy equipment lenses are just as if not more important than the body (in most cases) 2. Investing in good lighting equipment is just as if not more important. 3. Good composition is key.

I'm considering o buy the KX but with the A9III being announced, I would like to know how it compares side by side, I know they are completely different cameras, made for completely different audience. But the work I do, I don't really need the Red, and don't even need the A9III but having a new toy to play with always keeps me motivated.

@@Ernesto_media Nothing tbh, just got bored and want to test out something new. If strictly saying tools I "need", S5II or S5IIX should more and suffice. But not everything is based on "need", sometimes it's for something more. Like do you really need a tourbillion watch? A $5 Casio should suffice, in fact it's better in telling the time. But it's for pleasure and it feels good.

@@Slipsch I completely understand, the excitement of opening a new toy will never go away. If it comes down to pleasure and you can afford it, why not.
I would look into what drives you to create and try to find something more meaningful and timeless than the gear.

You mean it’s not CINEMATIC. The point of the video was to explain why Komodo versatile enough for any kind of production. For footage test take a look at some of the other videos.

It’s not the Komodo it’s that kitchen lighting is jacked up. An Alexa would have looked the same. It’s a live kitchen not a staged production with controlled lighting
