I’m sure you are being sarcastic, because when Favre heard he was traded to Green Bay had to look up on a map where it was. Ron Wolf was sitting in NY Jets front office thinking if I ever get a GM job I’m going to trade for Favre.
As one commentor said this where Randall tore his ACL and essentially the 1991 season was in jeopardy. For the Packers were terrible going 4-12 that season and Lindy Infante was fired. The Packers hired Mike Holmgren and traded for a little known backup named Brett Favor, no I am sorry Brett Favre. Well once the Magic Man went down after the third game the rest is history. Imagine for the last 30 years the Packers have had 2 QB's. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers success wasn't on Favre. They had among the best D in the league shortly after 1991; and D wins Championships. That's why they won their Super Bowl; and the reason why they lost the Super Bowl to The Broncos in '97 was because of Favre. He also single handidly cost them playoff games since. Look at his INT in playoffs.
The Eagles had one of the best defenses I ever saw in 1991 but are not remembered because they failed to make the playoffs. Imagine how good this team would have been if Randall Cunningham hadn't gotten injured on opening day?
Based on his struggles with the new offense (on full display here) and not really corrected until late’92, I’m thinking probably the same 10-6 he turned in the previous 2 years.
It sure was!!...much longer thrown passes as opposed to today where it is mostly 5 and 10 yard dink and dunks Don't care for the oversized shoulder pads and loose jerseys. The Quasimodo look!!!
I know he was the MVP in ‘90 but Randall wasn’t grasping Kotite’s new offense which is evident here in the first quarter, all way to his benching in ‘92. Oh, let’s not forget, THE O-LINE SUCKED! There is absolutely no reason to just assume that Cunningham was destined to accomplish something better than a third consecutive 10-6 season and is purely speculation. Plus we have the benefit of hindsight to prove it.
@@drachenfire56I’m never going argue that those 2 games literally determined everything for the NFC and I do mean everything. So how did that happen and where was the decent quarterbacking? They were both on crutches, watching helplessly from the sidelines as their once 3-1 team completely unraveled. When a team is unable to run the ball effectively and are completely incapable of protecting ANY quarterback who dares to step under center, i tend to look at the offensive line more than anything else. McMahon was the decent quarterbacking you’re referring to and they couldn’t protect him either. Obviously losing Randall wasn’t ideal but it was hardly the sole reason that the Eagles would “only” finish with a 10-6 record and missing the post season, either. Now, I’m not saying that McMahon would have won them the Super Bowl or that a healthy Randall Cunningham wouldn’t have. What I am saying however, is that poor play from the offensive line that year was more of a deciding factor and seemingly the biggest reason that ‘91 team is not as , remembered or revered as the special team that we know they could (or should) have been.
I wonder if the great Gang Green D could do as well today. Hopkins and Waters would probably be fined into the poor house for actually hitting people. D line would get big fines for landing on the QB. I really miss those guys. Those were the Eagles I loved to watch. Oh, and I'd take Buddy over Kotite any day.
And for rest of season on ESPN NFL PRIME TIME ever time Bryce Paup made a play Chris Berman would remind everyone he’s the one who put Randall Cunningham out for season in week one…it got annoying real quick
Now days that hit on Randel would of got Brice Paup a hefty fine, suspended 3 games and then would have a bullseye on his back for flags and illegal hits. Sooner or later the NFL will be a two and touch league. With all the rule changes that have taken place over the years, Defensive players that rush the opposing Teams QB’s do not even know if they can tackle the QB or not and you can see it every single game in the NFL today. This is a time when football could actually be called tackle football.
Even if Cunningham lasted the season, they would wouldn't have made the playoffs anyway. The Cowboys won beat the Eagles in week 15 on special teams and d. Cunninham wouldn't have beat them alone.
@@jamiejohnson4524 I agree with you that I think had Randall not gotten hurt in 1991, the Eagles would have made the playoffs. However, I don't know if I would go as far as to say they would have gotten past the Redskins and won the chip though. The 1991 Redskins were no joke either.
Nah because the Eagles w/ Randall loss so many games that they should’ve won esp games @Tampa home to Phx, low scoring games to NO and SF. You add Randall and they win at least 3 of those, that puts the Eagles at 13 wins, that Dallas game, they just could not generate enough offense and they win in Philly so Philadelphia definitely goes and Dallas maybe the ones home.
