Great review! This Vivobook seems overall the top choice for Ryzen AI instead of the super thin S16 everyone seems to be reviewing.
Also battery life on gaming looks really good, you're tips on how to make it last longer is great. I wonder if you could even horde more battery life if lightgaming on 10w already gives you 60fps you could cap it to 30fps and use AFMF2 lol

    • @Hubwood
      @Hubwood  Месяц назад +1

could be possible. Though at 10W not too many fancy games will get you 60 FPS :D

First time watching your content man, love it. Would be great if you did a 'lap' test since a lot of people like me use it on the lap on the go. I have a big question. The Vivobook S 16 and Zenbook S 16 here cost the same at some store (discounted zenbook). I will be using for my own personal dev projects (small scale, running some containers, a web server, code editor and browser tabs / videos). I heard Zenbook is limited to 28W which should probably be enough but it is also more premium. The vivobook seems to have a higher resolution here 3.2K vs 2.8K zenbook. What do you think? Does this one get much hotter on the lap? BTW: MS just backported a Windows 11 24H2 update for AMD to current version which improves gaming a lot for Zen 4/5 on desktop. Very interesting!

Have you considered or reviewed the Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 gen 9 14" AMD with 8845HS + 780M iGPU?
It has a 2.8k 2880 x 1800p 120hz OLED with HDMI 2.1, slim, all-aluminium body, backlit (but not RGB) keyboard, good connectivity, 84kwh battery and you can configure the build from Lenovo direct to have 32GB soldered gddr5 6400 (unlocked to 7500 with latest BIOS) plus 1TB SSD for around £770. I paid this on their 'Business Store', which anyone can use actually. I'm in the UK but this laptop is also available on European stores but not American stores, I understand.
It won't have the ultimate performance & efficiency of the Vivobook S14 model in this review as the CPU is now already a 'last gen Zen', but it is still very fast, surprisingly capable for gaming and good value for money. You get perhaps 85-90% of the performance for 55-60% of the cost. It would make an interesting comparison & cheaper alternative.

hello. I have a quick question if you don’t mind. I recently purchase that new laptop and performed a clean install of Windows. I’m trying to avoid installing ASUS’s bloatware as much as possible. Is it possible to adjust the power limit of the APU directly through the BIOS or Windows settings, or am I required to install MyASUS to control those four power/fans modes? I’m aware of G Helper, but I’d prefer to use an AMD utility instead.
The reason I’m asking is that switching to performance mode in the Windows settings doesn’t seem to improve FPS significantly. For example, I’m only getting around 200 FPS in Valorant, and I’m experiencing severe FPS drops while gaming. I suspect the issue might be overheating since I haven’t adjusted the fan curve using the MyASUS app’s power/fan profile.

Use the Universal x86 tuning utility to set all 3 TDPs to 10W. I also di set the boost times to the minimum amount. So it will be applied immediately. Don't forget to activate the check boxes for each TDP and boost time. Then apply the setting
Then also use process lasso to limit the cores for the task of a game after you run it. Might need to play around a bit concerning the cores you need to allocate to the game.

@@Hubwood i ordered an hx365 S16 today and may be trying out your ideas on friday. Your video ALMOST convinced me to get this vivobook but i need the 16" screen for programming and ive never had a touch screen and wanted to try one ... A lot of people think they have to run the S16 on "performance" or worse, "max fans" because maybe they're idiots who always bought intel but i have no illusions about the bad cooling on the S16.

M3pro can idle at 0.1w so 3watt is absolutely not impressive

Well... At this point I wouldn't use an apple product even if I was paid for using it :p
But yeah, the m chips are another level. But for a windows laptop it is great.

@@Hubwood my 13700H laptop can idle at 1.6-2w altough the windows iso i installed is barebone and no defender no bloatware garbage.
      Stock idle was 5-6w.
Still i was expecting at least a 2w idle from amd out of the box

Obviously you get worse efficiency once you need power.
      I get 19 500 on r23 and 34 500 on passmark. With 4250 single thread passmark.

@@PKperformanceEU hey thanks for uploading. Did you check the average total system draw via HW Info? The 2w is the CPU
But the laptop uses power as well. (My 3w was refering to the whole system, also consider that software readings aren't always 100% correct) You'd have to measure the total runtime on idle to find the ACTUAL total system draw
