    if you are checking the performance of the iGPU itself, do the tests in 1080p. Because in 720p games with high frame rates, the performance depends more on the CPU and e.g. 880M (12 CU) and 890M (16CU) can have almost identical results; the same in the case of 780M, the advantage of the newer 880M can be underestimated/overestimated due to the older CPU

    I had the 365 model.. beautiful machine, all the ergo, screen, etc. is nearly perfect.. I returned it due to the ridiculous chassis heating up doing office tasks and the lowest level of the keyboard backlight is incredibly too bright.. it over powers the OLED at night.. such a weird choice making the keyboard backlight so bright.

      If that's the case, then it's disappointing. Zen5c is the same uarch as Zen5 but with cache differences. So we could have hoped for better results in gaming. If it's causing stuttering because big cores are waiting for little cores, then it's as useful as e-cores for gaming....Hopefully it can be fixed on the BIOS side.

    Terry why didn't you compare the best 365 result @28W on the 780M also running at 28W? You also may want to do a quick plugin power test running each Ausu laptop on the same power brick in game (even use Win Mini 65W charger or something better). Compact power bricks usually overheat when stressed which may be why the 370 is stuttering.

    I'd definitely be interested to see how the cores are handled during gaming. Cross ccx latency is really high, and I'm really curious why scheduling is pretty bad. While we moved on from 4 cores for gaming, I don't think it should be that bad, heck the Steam has 4 cores with worse IPC (also CPUs like 12100f are still serviceable). Wonder if any BIOS/OS/driver updates in the next couple of months will squeeze anything left out of Strix for gaming or if other OEMs like GPD will handle Zen5+5c Strix better. Resources being thrown at the 5c cores have to be stalling the regular cores. Also there's the whole thing with the device choosing to put more power into the CPU rather than the GPU.

    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 5 месяцев назад

      "and I'm really curious why scheduling is pretty bad"
      The answer is terribly simple: Windows! Windows scheduler sucks. Almost 3 (read: three) years ago when Windows 11 launched specifically to support Intel's Alder Lake, they a (weak) reason to not have a good scheduler for heterogenous logical cores in Windows 10 and older.
      Now with P vs E cores, nonX3D vs X3D cores, with chiplets (which, as a concept in the mainstream, have 7 years age) and now with non-c vs c (for compact) cores on different chiplets ... there's no excuse for Microsoft. Not to mention that Intel's CPUs and AMD's CPU with 2 chiplets where one is with X3D cache, still TO THIS DAY have problems with scheduling. It's why Intel launched that APO thing (though it clearly doesn't work on it anymore). It's why people learned what Process Lasso is.
      Maybe Microsoft should use that AI that they're hyping so much as being so good and make a better scheduler with it. And while at it, maybe finish the literally 10 year long transition from Control Panel to the Settings App. Yeah, I'm not betting on this to actually happen anytime soon, they have bigger priorities, like ads in Windows, that Recall thing and a host of other useless gimmicks or anti-user features.

    • @NootNoot.
      @NootNoot. 5 месяцев назад +6

      @@Winnetou17 Reading rumours and stuff apparently Intel has updated their Thread Director for Win 24H2. Don't know how much of this is true and how it'll affect Lunar Lake.
      As for Zen 5's classic cores, Geekerwan (another great in depth reviewer) set the affinity to the 4 perf cores, and yielded ~25% better 1% lows and ~15% avg (2 games, ZZZ and Elden Ring).
      But you're right, I wish Microsoft would give as much as thought to their schedule as they've done with Windows on Arm. Seems like Intel has constantly had to invest into their Thread Director as the OS isn't doing anything, and for Ryzen we need to rely on 3rd party apps like AutoTDP to get the best out of these APUs.

      I like the snapdragon laptops, but if you want something that can game, this would be a better performance to battery life balance for you

    I wonder whether they would add infinity cache to Z2 Extreme chips for handhelds. Otherwise having 4 more CUs is not really viable when power is a constraint.

    Amazed these can't be bought with more than 32 gigs ram, my 7 year old mid range has 32 gigs, on a box that can't be upgraded I won't go near anything with less than 64 gigs, in 2024 32 gigs needs sold as minimum
    The best bet isn't hibernate, it's turning s3, plus s0 is/nothing to do with type of cpu, it's what the manufacturer and hardware drivers let continue working in sleep zero state
    And finally, sleep is nearly obsolete with an adequate SSD, waking from hibernate is a little noticed difference between how soon you get back to work
    Also, you did a video on wattage used comparing against performance, or restricting power used to the levels of it's ARM counterpart

    The new 25 watt champ but I think it is too thin.

      @ehtasam2080 so which one is it? Nvidia is more efficient or you can't use a laptop on battery? I agree that you can't use the nvidia dgpu laptops you shill on battery because you get an hour of battery life even with your 35 watt 4070 laptop. Strix point laptops which use 28 or 33 watts total max soc power (not 35 watts or more for dgpu and then 15 watts minimum for a cpu) can be used on battery for hours.

    I can get s nice g14 with 120hz QHD Oled rtx4070+Ryzen 9 8945HS+32gb of ram for 100 usd LESS, this has terrible value, and Lenovo has even better options with a Dgpu and not a crappy integrated one, yes the igpu has improved over the competition but that will get smoked out of the game with proper GPUs.
