  • This amazing footage was recorded by Charles V. Waine in 1971. His lifelong hobby was old time vessels and he was an excellent author on the subject. One example being "Coastal vessels in detail" which features PS Waverley and TS King George V. He also featured his own fair hand illustrations.
We see Waverley on multiple occasions in the 1971 season. The first occasion is on a PSPS charter around Arran on 25th September 1971. We then briefly see her on a cruise to Loch Fyne and thirdly, a cruise up Loch Long.
There are many interior shots of the vessel which highlight the changes Waverley has experienced in recent times.

At 4 mins 20 seconds, they guy in the tweed jacket and kilt, is my dad. I was on this sail (aged 11) and still have the slides he took that day, including my visit to the bridge.

Great to see the Waverley sailing in 1971 & still sailing in 2022 just shows what a great steam boat she is, may she keep sailing for many years to come & proudly sail the waters of the river Clyde ( keep the flag flying high.)

Beautiful nostalgic footage of the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer. She looks magnificent sailing the lochs and waters of the beautiful Firth of Clyde,

Surprised to see the square sponson portholes (as built). When we’re they replaced with the more traditional round portholes?
